I was visiting my mother in the and the local news Sid this story about how these sleazy debt collectors are contacting people claiming they (the collection agency) has been assigned an account.  The truth us that these sleasoids look up people's credit reports and find accounts which a company has written off and attempt to collect payment--even though account was never assigned to them (the collection agency).  Also, these agencies will look for companies that went out of business and claim that there is an outstanding bill still owed.

These collection agencies prey upon seniors who usually do not have computer access and don't know how to check these claims out.

Recommendation by the TV consumer advocate.  Tell the caller to immediately stop calling your place of employment, second  you are contacting the FCC and  filing a complaint (it is free and  can be completed  online), also that their calls are harassment and can be vowed as stalking.  Lastly, and most important do not pay these companies.  If this is legitimate, the company will send you copies of the claim and not just threaten.

Do not let them intimidate you--ALWAYS DEMAND WRITTEN PROOF!!  Contact the FCC these companies are sleazy and use intimidation to scam people--don't let them make you a victim

Someone from this number is harassing my elderly parents!!  They've had 9 calls today alone from this number!!  If my father answers, there's no one there, just open air.  It's ridiculous and I feel sure that it's some kind of "scam the elderly" thing!

I get calls from 855-207-9500 and 855-207-2708.   Both wanted me to call back and speak to an agent so they can schedule a time to serve me regarding a debt either at home or at my job.

855-207-7263 is something called Liquid Education. The young man who answered stated they assist people in returning to school or helping to locate a local trade school. I stated I was well past school and did not request their services. He apologized and said they wouldn't be calling anymore. We shall see...

They called my cell phone at 5:08pm asking if I would be home the next day since they wanted to serve court papers to me. Then they wanted me to call a new number but I was driving so they transfered me to someone. He said he would help I talked to someone named Richard London who said I could either be served papers and possibly pay $2,500.00 in court fees for an old debt from 2006 or pay a settlement of $547.60. If I made a payment of $100 today they would stop the court paper from coming. They also told me that they were NOT a collection agency. I did some research and what they're doing is illegal. Processer don't call to set up a time to serve you. They just come and serve the papers. Also, once court papers have been filed, it's impossible to stop  the process. You have to go to court and drop the case.

I feel I was scared into giving them my credit card/debit card information. Since I have changed my bank account, I can not find any proof of who they actually are and if they are actually even going to pay the debt with the $ I gave them

A mere two comments behind yours, and a whole year ago, I pointed to official-type material on federal laws which control debt collectors. Your answers are waiting there.

The one defense against slander is truth. You're guessing SHILLALERT has it wrong. Over it ... states "got pretty much the same call and after taking your advice..." but no one gave Over it ... any advice that I can see so SHILLALERT may have it right.

No one suggests debtors should run away from debt but when money's in short supply, food and rent have to come before debt.

Making remarks, such as the ones you've stated here in your blog, will not accomplish anything except making you look like a bad person. The right thing to do is NOT to go on the internet to blog about how displeased you are with the fact that you are possibly a victim of a scam, but rather contact the proper authorities and handle it in a civilized manner. Childish remarks and slander will not better your situation, nor will they create motive for the FTC to investigate, considering the comments you've made are slanderous and immature at best. This is a matter that needs immediate attention from the proper authorities, as well as numerous complaints filed with the FTC in order to give them legitimate reasoning for investigating the company you are filing complaints about. For more information please contact myself or one of my associates at www.chapinlaw.org

This person is flat-out lying! This company does not have an attorney, nor do they actually pursue judgements like they claim. They are a fly-by-night collection agency simply using scare tactics to make people pay their debts. Mind you, I will defend them to the extent of knowing that the debts they purchase are still valid debts within the statute of limitations, but they are debts owed by low-life individuals who have no intentions in paying back their obligations. If you do not owe at least $5,000, and have no available assets, then I would not worry about a thing. NO company is going to pursue a judgement on a debt under $5,000 due to the fact that the associated filing and legal fees are too great to do so, and it will not benefit them to go after you for a $500 credit card that they most likely don't even have the original contract on. In the event any of you receive a phone call from these people I urge you to contact the FTC and your states Attorney General to file a complaint. Be sure to get as much information as you can on the initial call from these people, address, name of person you spoke to, etc. On another note.....A PROCESS SERVER WILL NEVER CALL YOU BEFORE SERVING YOU! There are several attorneys who specifically work on shutting down agencies like these. So, again, if you receive one of their threatening phone calls, have no worries. Just contact the entities I have listed as well as an attorney to consult with him as to what you should do. I will say though that I do agree with paying your debts and not running from your obligations. Our economy, and the USA in its entirety would be a better place if everybody did just that...PAY YOUR DEBTS!

I got a call tonight from this guy and on the message machine it said to call back this 866 number claiming my wife was being taken to court over an overdraft bank charge from 2005. This is 2012! and my wife didn't even work that year much less have a bank account. Something very fishy here and i think its a dummy bill collector making up a false claim. I don't have one minute for these clowns.

They called my cell phone with a blocked/unknown number.  "David Allen" left the message with 855-207-9500.  He said he was looking for a woman named "Iris [my-last-name]" and to call them regarding the action they were taking against her and to reference a case number.  He did not include his company name or any other details. --- I cannot think of anyone anywhere in my family tree with the name Iris (or anything that sounds remotely similar to Iris)!

Wow, things must really be getting tough in your boiler room. Didn't you get your crack shipment today, is that why you're so crabby? Or is it just that this site is making it hard for you to trick people out of money?

Well, you're no better at lying on the internet than you are at lying on the phone, so might as well get back to the boiler room, maybe there's a little something left in your crack pipe after all!
