Debt Collector
I received a call from this company and as well as harassing me they were calling my fathers house.  They threatened me with a private locator serving me papers. To make the calls stop i set up arrangements for a payment but the next day  I called my attorney and the Attorney General to report them. They told me to close my bank account and not pay them it is a scam.  My attorney had me call the company back and ask for an address and they said it is again policy to give out their address.  They have to supply a name address and written proof of the debt in question.  SCAM

These people got me today during my lunch break-- my gut was screaming it was fake, but, they had a lot of information about a real debt, so I paid them $150 and set-up a second payment. After seeing this page, I have canceled my VISA card and will be reversing charges as soon as the charge posts.

Report these people.

Another excellent source to gain knowledge of how collectors and scammers work....Google  "800Notes"  which is this very board that you are now reading.  Pour a cup of coffee,  cut a slice of pie,  then sit back and read all of the posts.  Even the posts made several years back.  If you want to get a good handly on how these scammers and unsavory collectors work,  just read and heed.  You will get an education that money can't buy and an eye opener of all the thieves at work.

I guess I am in the wrong business.  I need to work for Global for a couple of weeks, learn the art of fleecing the gullible public,  and start my own business.   My Gosh,  doesn't anyone know their rights under the fair debt collections act?  Does everyone here just blindly pay any stranger who demands money?
Never, never, never  pay anyone that calls you and says you owe a debt and must pay or go to jail.  Until that alleged,  and I repeat "ALLEGED"   debt is fully validated,  and  in writing,   you don't owe anyone anything.  And when I say validated,  A single sheet from a fax,  that is nothing but a bill doesn't validate anything.  I could send that same sheet of paper to anyone claiming that they owe me,  but it is not legally acceptable validation.  Anytime anyone calls you, especially if their name begins with "Global",  Demand written validation and do not accept their excuses for not sending it.   Remember that you have the right under the FDCPA to demand written validation of any claim that they make,  and under the very same laws,  they must comply in writing within 5 days.  And then you have 30 days to dispute the alleged debt as well as their legal right to claim and collect in your state.   Once disputed they cannot contact you about the debt.  They must sue you or shut up.  Please,  Please take a few moments to google   Fair Debt collections and consumer rights under the FDCPA and read what rights you have and what the collector can and cannot do.   DON'T JUST HAND OVER YOUR DAMN MONEY TO THESE THIEVES.  Invest some time to learn a few simple and basic steps to protect your consumer rights.  There is not a post on this thread that could not have avoided losing their hard earned money had they spent 20 minutes reading about consumer rights against debt collectors prior to getting a call from Global or anyone else...scammers included.   Please do me a favor....help yourself.  Read about these maggots because once you have been taken,  they will always come back again for more and even sell your name to the next collector/scammer so that they can give it a go.....Once you gain knowledge and start defending yourself,  they will tend to pass you by and go to the next poor and  uninformed target.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Then I would submit to you that they are going to Scam your ASSets.  You have a legal right to, not just anything,  but actual written validation of the debt including verifiable proof of any contract with your name on it.  I would tell them to serve me or shut up but until they uncork the written validation from their so called "legal department"  to don't even call me.   That is no excuse because you have a lawfull right to demand validation and they are legally bound by that same law under the fair debt collections act to provide it within 5 days of your request.  You have 30 days to dispute it...."In writing,  via certified usps mail"
That's the rules,   the law,  and that's how the game is played.  They must follow those rules or else they are indeed scammers.

Listen, I am really good about checking the history and determining if it is a SCAM or not. Looks like this time I paid $ 480.00 and just found out it is a scam. I will recommend if you get a call like that again call this number - 877-700-5790 - these people will ask you for the phon number that they called from and they told me it was a scam. I feel really damn stupid now. That is ok, I will be checking into this further to see if I can get my money back

The guy that leaves a message is supposedly someone from their "tracking" company who completely and utterly makes a disaster of your life. He will call your work, your relatives, even your neighbors and tell them that you NEED to call or else you will be arrested, etc.  It's pretty awful.  The agency themselves is called "Global" and that's all the information I ever received. I never got anything in writing and they weren't very forthcoming with information.
