Just got a call that I would be served papers on Friday by a man named Joe Chris?  Didn't say anything else.  Just threatening that they had my social security number and that if I didn't call back by 2:00 today then papers would be served.

Debt Collector
My boss fielded this call for me at my place of employment and was told that this guy using the name Joseph Kennedy was from the State Filing Office of Texas and that I was to be in court on the 5th but wouldn't say tell him what month or where I was suppose to be in court.  Threatened to put both he and I in jail if we did not cooperate. Told my boss I would take care of it later in the day when I could stew over it and get really mad and make a few threats of my own to this c**** jockey. It was something about a debt I supposedly owed in Texas. I don't owe anyone anything in Texas. I don't even know anyone in Texas.  I think the United States has put such a stranglehold on Al-Qaeda's money that they are trying anything they can to get money to fund their terrorist acts.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

It was a gentlemen who left a message claiming to be the prosecutor of Mahoning county in Ohio, calling to tell me he had a court date on this Wed for check fraud. I called the number back and asked to speak to the prosecutor of Mahoning County, i was told no one worked there by that name and that the business i was calling was the PDA group. I feel as though its slightly unethical to claim to be someone you are not.

i was told to call back 855-245-0127 EXT-114

number keeps calling with an automated voice message telling me I have been served as a named respondent.  After two weeks of this I called back the number and some pot head sounding guy answers the phone and says he works for some law office.  He asked if some woman lived at my place.  I said no.  I then told him I didn't know this woman.  Then he proceeded to ask if I wanted to get to know this woman.  Then he started giving me some match making pitch.  He said he didn't know if I was single or if this lady was but he could set us up.  I was so confused. It was the most weird conversations I have ever had.  I told him to stop calling my number.  He proceeded to ramble on about something.  At the end he said he would take me off the call list.  But I am sure I will get another phone call.
