Debt Collector
I returned a call today because they said there was pending civil action. They knew an awful lot about me, my address, the last 4 of my social.......stuff off my credit report.  I continually requested  validation of the debt, as is due me by the fair credit reporting act, to which I was informed because this account (from 2007?)  is no longer in collection it isn't required. I did give up my e-mail address and was sent a pdf attachment with a settlement offer, none of the fair credit reporting language in the letter, nor dates. Responded requesting validation as is my right................
At first the caller asked me if I'd already been served, and later promised me I would be. Yet, when going to public records, there is no activity. hmmmmmmmmm

I HAVE BEEN GETTING CALLS FROM THESE CREEPS, FOR TWO YEARS NOW, GOOD THING IS I CAN BLOCK THEM NOW ONCE THEY CALL ME. I'VE HAD STORIES FROM SOMEONE IS PUTTING A LAWSUIT AGAINST ME, TO IF I DON'T ANSWER THEM I WILL BE ARRESTED.... FUNNY PART IS THEY WILL SCRAMBLE THE PHONE NUMBERS AND TRY TO TRICK YOU IN ANSWERING. COINCIDENTALLY ONCE THEY SCRAMBLED THE NUMBER AND IT HAPPENED TO BE MY OLD WORK NUMBER THAT I HAD PROGRAMMED ON MY PHONE. SO WHEN IT RANG I ANSWERED AND LORD BEHOLD IT WAS THESE DUMB PEOPLE!!!! REALLY?? I MEAN REALLY??? NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE HOW IDIOTIC THIS IS. AND ALL BECAUSE I MADE THE MISTAKE OF PUTTING MY PHONE NUMBER IN A SEARCH ENGINE TO HELP ME FIND A LOAN, AS SOON AS I CLICKED SEARCH THE CALLS STARTED COMING IN BACK TO BACK LIKE A RAINSTORM.... TERRORIST AT ITS BEST I MAY SAY.

I received a message stating that there is a civil complaint against me and that I have 24 hours to call or legal action will occur. They also stated someone would arrive at my house than gave me my address from 6 years ago. How spooky and creepy are these people?!? I have been stressed- but can't think of who would and why wouldn't a sheriff show up to serve me at my present address? He called and left message at my house and cell. However there is another phone number that he called from on my cell and that number is 916-258-5061. I went to other sites about receiving these same messages and people were scammed!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I just received the same call.  Asking for address information to serve me with a summons, but they could not give me any information "really".  He sounded as if he was calling from his bathroom with an echo and was very unprofessional.  He made claims that someone has filed a formal complaint against me and needed information on my address.  I replied, "if someone filed a complaint and gave you my contact number then you should have my address", he became very irritate and rude.  I explained that I would be turning this information over to my local FBI agency and my attorney for review.

The nerve of people!

Debt Collector
I have received several calls at home from this crooked company! When they said they were trying to collect a debt from 1995, I told them immediately the debt had been charged off years ago and that I would turn them in if they called my house again. So, today, instead of calling my house, they called my husband on his cell phone and said they wanted to be sure someone would be at home tomorrow so they could deliver a subpoena. When he gave me the message, I called this number and Martin answered and would not give any company information until he pulled up my "Case number". Then he proceeded to tell me that they had never called my husband but perhaps a company they contract with did. I asked him had they ever officially sent me in writing the debt information, which he could not say they did. He was rude and defensive and I told him I would be glad to turn the information over to my attorney but in the meantime not to call my house or my husband again. What scamming jerks!

This is supposedly a call from a legal firm "Kentwood and Associates" that is operating as a debt collector.  This number called my work again today. Said they were trying to get a hold of me and were trying to have someone serve me some legal papers. It really pisses me off that they are calling my work. They have called before a few weeks ago and when I returned the call I got a lot of run-around. The person answered the phone "Corporate Office" but no business name. Then when I gave him the reference number they gave me he said he was transferring me to the legal office. They answered simply "law office" and said that they were trying to collect on a debt that was supposedly over $5,000 but they could settle for a little over $1,000. I  pressed further to find out a name of their company and was told it was Kentwood and Associates out of California.  Searching the web for this name and number turns up lots of scam reports.

Spam. Left my wife a message saying legal documents are being delivered to an address that we do not know of...so I called back on her behalf. The person I spoke to was "jake' and he was very rude and irate and when I told him we would get our attorney involved he said I'll call your house at 2am then he said better than that I'll come to your house at 2am and rape your wife. I filed a complaint with the FBI.
