I just got a call from this number, on a cell phone thats not even on.

Please note: If you are in default with your student loan, you do not have to deal with collection agencies, if you contact your original student loan company and let them know you wish to "rehabilitate" your student loan.

Which basically means that you can bring your loan out of default to make it current by paying an agreed amount for x many months, paying the agreed amount religiously will take your loan out of default. The student loan companies will work with you, rather then a seedy collection agency with questionable ethics.

Called my cell phone, on 12 May 2014, which is NOT listed, so it would be interesting to know how they got my number. So be warned they can duplicate your local number. I have a rule, if I do not recognize your number I do not pick up-ever.

This is a collection agency-GC Services and like most collection agencies tend to be a bit dogy and use questionable tactics. As most collection companies engage in some sort of skulduggery .They used a dummy local area code based number to disguise who they were, Which is okay as it is part of the cat and mouse game we play. Not to mention the ambiguous of the message and than not explain who they are and what they want-yeah because that does not make one suspicious at all.

There is no law that says you have to speak to them and why should you?  All they want to do is attempt to make you feel like s*** through manipulative guilt and a attempt at shaming you regarding your student loans to get you to pay. The goal is to  manipulate you into paying fees you cant afford, and for the record, the law ensures  that you "pay only what you can afford to pay" in student loans fees and not what THEY (However, there is a but...most collection agencies get a bonus from the government, yep our own governments awards bonuses to collection agencies so that they can bully you into paying a hire rate, per month-so they will attempt to strong arm you and pretend the law does not exist) the collection agencies want you to pay.

Snail mail is still an acceptable legal form of communication. It is the only way, I respond to collection agencies. Thus, our communication is documented-and registered via mail. But collections agencies prefer that they speak to you, then of course, it becomes, your word against theirs and they can pretend they were never aggressive and threatening when speaking to you. Record all conversations, when you can and know your state laws regarding your rights recording conversations.

Lastly, for those of you repeatedly receiving phones calls as stated above for a debt that is not yours, by law, YOU do not have to put up with such harassment. Politely ask for the name of the company and who you spoke to, the reference/case  number they cited you and then, at the end  ask them to cease and desist and not to call you again, as the debt is not yours. With in 24 hours, send out a "Cease and Desist Letter"  to the company for harassing phone calls via registered signed delivery. You can find any number of copies of Cease and Desist letters for you to use on the internet that you can copy, but be sure to replace their info with your own details. By law, once they have received that formal letter to stop contacting you, they are prohibited from contacting you in the future. If they do, then it is good news for you, as each phone call that you can prove (-hence the reason you should record the conversations) after you asked them to STOP equates to a monetary value per "harassing" phone call, Thus, it is important that you always record:document who, what, when as well and how many times they've called. The more evidence you have the stronger your claim is in court.

If the Collection agency is going to be dishonest and aggressive beyond the boundaries that is allowed by law, then let them be hosted by their own petard and make them pay.

I owe money to everyone and his brother, so this is just another debt collector calling me. Student Loan from 1997 is what they're calling about. Yes, 1997.

Well, if they are going after my student loan, they are really stretching. I had THAT all paid off back in about 1986/1987. LOL!

My Caller-ID lit up at 9:23AM. It claimed to be from White Salmon, WA. The number was 509-774-1015. I am expecting a very important call, however, it would not have shown as just a # and a location. So I let the machine answer. The message goes like this -
"Hello. This message is for (a name that sounds like a "combination" of both my husband's name and mine, but is NEITHER of our names - plus our correct last name). My name is Kimberly Knowles. And if you would, please call be back at 855-298-8436 between the hours of 8AM and 9PM. Again that number is 855-298-8436 extension 166844...blah blah blah, niceties..."

I have NO idea who this is. There is no one by the first name she gave, living here and that is NO way on earth I am calling them back.

I keep getting these calls asking for me by my maiden name, but with my current phone number...... which is an unlisted cell phone.....

I get get several calls from this number every week even though I have never picked up. I'm well past the point of having a "student loan."

They called my house for my sister in law and would not give any info on why they were calling or how they got my number since this has never been her number nor do I think she even knows the house number. Stacy is who called here and left the number and I called back and I talked to someone else. She told me they will not call again. I guess we will see.

It's GC Services (i.e. "G"overnment "C"ollection Services).  They primarily act as a collection agency for delinquent student loans.  For no apparent reason, I was told I must work out a payment plan with GC Services.  So they now do an electronic debit from my bank account once per month.  One problem.  They KEEP CALLING because they insist on obtaining financial information to sell my loan, which I am not inclined to give them because I don't trust them.  Moreover, even though I have this payment agreement, I am now getting letters from my state saying my loan is delinquent when these payments are being deducted automatically by the very company they told me I must go through now!

Keep getting calls from this number. Only two times have I been able to understand the person calling's name, one a Tanya, another time Stacy. Both times, they very quckly slur over company name, no matter how many times I play the answering machine, still cannot make it out. But somehow have purportedly a order number. Order number for what? I never ordered anything!

Is this from GE Money?????  ane how is "855" a toll-free number???

Update: When I called back, the person to whom I spoke, "Caitlin," said she was in "Hemington," WV.  She said that they had to speak to my husband, and I asked how they got my contact information.  She said that he had apparently given it to them as a contact if he couldn't be reached.  When I asked if they had tried to contact him, as I was apparently a "second option," she said that my number was what was on the account.  I asked if they were directly given our contact information, and her reply (repeatedly, to most of my questions), was "it's not my account."  Multiple attempts later, and a couple of holds, I was finally told "Josh Harris" was in charge of the account.  I said he could call me tomorrow.  We'll see what happens.

Just got a phone call from this number.  They wanted to speak to my husband, and said they were from GC/GE? services, but wouldn't provide any other info.  I muted the phone and googled them because there was a local number, but it turned out to be VoIP and I didn't get far.  I did get an "account" number.  The issue is that they called my cell phone (we don't have home phones), and she wouldn't tell me anything because it was about a business matter and she could "only speak to my husband."  I asked if it was legally a confidential matter or if it was a company-policy confidential matter, and she said legal.  Point is, they have MY number on file, so technically I am the contact person.  Update when available.

Vague young woman who I could tell she could NOT pronounce the name of the employee she wanted.  Therefore I was not about to guess.  So I said I've never heard of that person.  I get way too many telemarketer calls and debt collectors for employees so I'm not going to help them out when I am so busy answering important customer calls.  Anyway, I did ask what company - GE Services - and I did jot down the number to add to my growing list of numbers to watch for and to report.  855-298-8436

Numerous calls no message left. Finally a Chris Fried ?? left message and above phone number.  Called above number which was answered by a female who stated her name ?? and when asked what company is this she stated GC SERVICES. When I further asked what type of company is this and why were they calling me , she was very vague.

They wouldn't tell me who they were.
