Recipients of these calls do not necessarily owe a debt to anyone. I've gotten this before for a bogus debt (it was allegedly for a cell phone service - which I never had!), and now these calls are coming in at a work number (obviously not for me, as I don't use the phone for my work). They are robocalls being made in an attempt to get money via guilt, from people who may or may not have owed money somewhere at some time. I agree that if one owes money, one should pay it back - to the entity to whom they owe the money or their representative. If, however, you are the recipient of one of these robocalls, chances are it's a scam. (Real collection agencies will not robocall you with no specifics.) Do a little homework and send them a letter requesting they provide the details of the debt in question. Include the clause that if they cannot provide proof of debt, they must stop calling immediately or you will report them. (Check around online for templates of this type of letter.)

I've had the same experience as those listed above.  I called the police when they said they would be coming to my house to serve papers and the police dept said it was a scam because if you are going to be served papers by someone, they aren't going to call ahead of time to warn you.  They never showed up anyway.

I received a phone call from Mr. Clairmont on 01/02/2012 concerning a $500 payday loan from two years ago. HE stated he was calling on behalf of the County and that he was giving me a "heads up" that he was going to serve me court papers the following day at my home or my place of employment. He left a call back number of 855-363-6707 if I had any questions. I returned his call, and he gave me payment options if I wanted to avoid a court case. I told him I would try to send money, but needed time to put money in the bank since January 2 was a bank holiday. After I hung up, I did some investigating online and found several pages of stories similar to mine, all from this company so I did not send money. Two days later, Mr. Clairmont called again, leaving a voicemail that he would be at my house between the hours of 2:00-4:00 pm that afternoon if I did not call back with my debit card number. I ignored his call, and called the county--who told me nothing was filed against me and that Mr. Clairmont was not an employee of theirs and therefore could not call on their behalf as he stated in his voicemail. I did not receive any further phone calls from this company for two weeks, but they have recently added an automated system which calls me several times a week. No one ever showed up to my house or my place of employment.

got a similar message from a Steve young stating that he had paperwork for me. I researched this company and found a very shotty website that they obviously just put up. Their address they give is for a Dollar General in Buffalo, NY. I did call the number and spoke to a "Mr. Lee" and he said I owed a debt from PayDayOne. Don't ever remember doing that--but they guy was being a real jerk. He "assured" me they were a real company and such. So I asked for some type of evidence. He emailed me a letter stating that I owe money. Gave no evidence whatsoever---but what's funny is that in the email "Mr. Lee" sent, the sender is named Daniel LaRusso and he is the Director of Operations...but in the actual attachment, the Director of Operations is Daniel Gebre...interesting..plus there are various different phone numbers between the email and the attachment...one of them is out of service! This is very suspicious.

In further investigating, these people have called other using the names Steve Young, Ed McMahon, Robert Stack...really? can't come up with anything more real???

Received the same call three times this week and he stated all the same above. No clue who he is and he says I need to be home. If its important they would send it certificated like anyone other court document sent to anyone.

I got the same call today and I panicked. they said it was a debt from 4 years ago. said i was going to be served on friday with papers to go to court. i freaked out and did a payment plan over the phone. they wanted 270 up front. I gave them my check card info and everything. I feel so stupid b/c I normally don't play into these guys.

I called the bank and cancelled the card and will tell them they need to send me paperwork b/c in 4 years i haven't gotten anything. it's not even on my credit report. =(

i couldn't stop payment on my card but once it clears I can dispute it.

So going on with more research, I have this address, 1843 Elmwood ave, Buffalo, NY 14216

This is a Fed-Ex store, and a dollar store, its just a business park.

I look for "Check Management group Buffalo, NY 14216" in google, and it brings up nothing, I look in the yellow pages, nothing, by all means, I think the yellow pages say, if they don't have, it probably doesn't exist, well I think this is the case.

I did a look up on the fax number they gave me, its 716-464-3662, but I cannot do a reverse look up on it, meaning that it is an online free number, most likely google voice or something, shy of tracing the call, I cannot find these guys.

I just got the call as well. This seems to be a scam, I have had issues with company's like this in the past and wanted to do my research. These guys are smooth and good, I almost paid them there fees and the amount that was loaned, but sadly it was due to Identity theft for me.

I asked them for documentation about my debt (Via EMAIL), so they send me a letter from them stating the date of my debt and to pay, so I call back asking where my documentation is and my proof of debt, the guy tells me that he can't do anything more for me and I need to contact the head of the legal department. This is just for my financial obligation.

I will let everyone know what happens from this point

This company is for internet payday loans that you defaulted on.  They are "attorneys" that are trying to scare you into a court situation.  What it really is, is a collection agency that bought the debt from the INTERNET payday loans and will settle with you for less than what you originally owed.  Since most Payday loans on the internet have to be licensed in certain states, most of them are illegal.  I know this one is now legal in Ohio but yet I paid them back exactly what I borrowed from them

I got that same call stating that I was going to be served papers and gave me a date as to when he was coming to my house.  Never identified what company I owe this debt to.  Called me twice, also called my daughter and said she owe $8,000 to some company she never heard of.  My daugter is a young adult and only worked a couple years of her life.  I think it's a scam to get money from people.  Not one time did he leave his own call back number.

I received the same call today from a gentleman whose name I couldn't make out in the message, stating that he has a summons for me to appear in court. He then gave the 855# and stated that I could call them. He only gave an account number and stated that he would make an appearance at my home. Since he stated that I have a summons to appear in court, I contacted my local clerk of courts office and the clerk ran all of my information and I have NO summons on file NOR any scheduled court dates, civil or criminal. I made her aware of the message I received and she stated that anyone from my local county, sheriff's office or officer of the court would have identified themselves as an officer of the court and county affiliation in the voice mail message that was left. I hope this information is helpful!

why don't people just pay what they owe instead of letting it get so far gone that these people will have to come at you in different angles for you to do what you supposed to...forget lack of proof people that owe money just dont want to pay..people get mad when there asked to pay money back lol people are a waste...

You've missed one of the best parts of FDCPA. It grants private right of action. Everyone reporting here about threats of litigation to coerce a payment can hose this agency in court. When the same law is used correctly by the consumer, collectors must prove their claims. Usually the ones deploying hostile and lawbreaking tactics are covering for a lack of proof.

Learn how to exercise your FDCPA rights as an alleged debtor at FTC-dot-gov.

This person called from a Blocked number and stated that they had legal documents to serve me in a state that I havent lived in for over 4 years. I think they just took the County (Hint) from my area code and ran with it.

They gave me this number to call 855-363-6705 to call and so I called and they were very rude and condescending. Great way to get me to pay a debt that I dont know about to someone who I do not know. Yeah right pfft.

True collection practices sent down by the FDCPA specifically prohibits a caller from being harrassed and demeaned by a debt collector and failure to follow them can result in class action law suits for the that company or worse-the company can loose their incoorperation status.

If this company chooses not to abide by those guidelines and regualtions, clearly they are not regulated by this FDCPA in the first place. Which further translates into-They ARE A FRAUD.

If you are reading this CHECK MANAGEMENT. YOU BOUGHT THE DEBT - YOU KEEP IT- unless you can appraoch me in a legal and non harrassing manner!
