I just received the same call i asked that they call back because I was working. When the rep called back I asked for name, location, and customer service #. He wouldn't give any info said he had to transfer me to his supervisor. Then James came to the phone same accent and voice. I completely shut him down told them don't call me anymore and hung up. New it was a scam but it's funny when they get irritated because you ask to many questions. Then stop calling trying to scam people. They won't be calling anymore.

I had the same calls as above today for the first time.  Same phone number, man with an Indian accent.  He stated someone was breaking into my computer to steal my ID and his same was Randy 111 something.  He wanted me to go to the windows button, hit it with control button and look for files that had this exe.  I didn't do it and said, well, I should call the police if this is happening.  He said no, you can't prove it.  I said, well, you calling me is proof, right?  Then he said something so stupid.  He said, you have the internet right?  WOW, not very smart if your telling me my computer id is being stolen.  I want to ask if anyone on these posts has recently worked with McAfee on the phone for a purchase?

So I then asked if I could speak to someone without an accent because I couldn't u d'état and her at all and she then said ok hold on and then hung up on me so sick of scammers I'm reporting to do not call and blocking the number she gave me but it's probably a fake number !

Caller with hard-to-understand accent told me that whenever I turned on my computer, it interrupted some Microsoft global service. He wanted me to turn on my computer and he would give me instructions as to how to fix this problem. Obviously a fraud--I suspect following his instructions would implant a virus in my computer, possibly giving access to my contact list. He also told me that his office was in Newark, NJ. My boyfriend suggested that I should get a police whistle and blow it in his ear if I were to get another of these calls--perhaps they would stop?!?!

I just received a call from this number.  Unlike the person above who just told them they are computer engineer, I actually am a computer engineer.  I had heard of this scam before and was curious how people were falling for it so I asked what he needed to fix it.  When he told me what my zfsendtotarget line was, letter by letter, I was kind of surprised that he had it right.

Here is what he read to me:  zfsendtotarget=CLSID\{888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062}

He then wanted control of my machine to fix it.  When I told him I would fix it myself and asked for instructions, he started calling me a fool and dropped the f-bomb on me several times and said my computer crash was coming soon and if I am so good at computers why should he help me

Anyway, after I wasted 30 minutes of his time (I was bored) and he finally decided to hang up, I did a little research on zfsendtotarget.  It is not a license, it is a file association value for Windows zipped files.  In other words, it is what tells your computer to open a zipped file with winzip or to open a word document with word.  In other words, it is the same on all Windows 7 computers unless you have changed it.

Total Scam

I know someone who fell for their scam and allowed them remote access to his computer.  The first thing that they did was to password his computer and then hide his files on his hard drive.  Then they told him that he would no longer be able to boot his computer unless he purchased the new password from them.  They laughed at him when he refused and called them cyber criminals.  He won in the end because he as actually running a virtual windows machine on an Apple machine which was fully backed up.  He was able to restore his windows 'C' drive from his backed up time capsule.

Yes. This must be a scam. I received a phone call from a man named James with a very heavy Indian accent who refused to send me any information in regards to the "hacking" of my computer. Not only that, he did not bother to check who he was talking to.. he didn't even ask my name!
Please do not give your info to this people!

Folks, this is a scam. I was contacted by the same group from Clifton Park, NY, etc. I had the same phone call today only two weeks after having this landline phone. I have never given Microsoft this number. What is scary is that they were able to connect my landline phone with my computers ID number. They want to access your computer remotely. Why, I do not know. Perhaps to access sensitive files or to install malware or spyware. I asked them some basic questions about their credentials and intentions. When I asked the caller where he went to school for computer engineering, he grew frustrated and told me it was none of my business. I then told him I was a computer engineer (I am not, but I wanted to hear his reaction) and he called me a fool, told me my computer would soon crash, and hung up the phone.

Received similar call today.  Called MS and they assured me they have no access to computer to know if someone is hacking it or not.  Our caller was Henry Doctorove - he even spelled it for me!  I told him this sounded like a scam and I would not give any information or do what they asked.  He persisted saying he was calling for Windows even after I said I would be reporting the call.  Number showed on caller id as "unknown" he provided 855-428-9679 as contact information.

Female caller with heavy Indian accent stated she was with Microsoft and my computer was corrupted.  Wanted me to follow her instructions.  She couldn't tell me how she got my number but said that when you buy a computer with Windows installed it automatically send them all of my info.  I looked the number up here to see if anyone else received calls and saw others with the same experience.

Exactly the same as the previous reporters:  Heavy Indian or Pakistani accent.  A lot of background noise.  Gave me this number and said he was representing Microsoft and was one of 35 engineers who did this work and was located in Clifton Park NY.  Said someone was trying to hack my computer - very serious hacking effort.  Wanted to help me.  I got this same call a couple of months ago as well.  Decided to do a little more investigating.   I did find a web site for them:  http://onlinecomputerexpert.com/  so I guess that they are a legit business.  Not saying that the services that they offer are any good.  For me I have no intention of giving anyone remote access to my computer so they can interrogate my files and skim off information.

Received same call today from "Harry" (heavy Asian accent and lots of background noise--other operators on calls) called and started a pitch for computer services. Caller ID said "Unknown Name" 687896. I asked how they got my info. He said when I bought a computer and opened a a web browser, my computer automatically entered into a security license with "us," i.e. onlinecomputerexpert.com, a "windows user customer service provider," which issued a unique ID number. When I asked for the phone number, he said 855-428-9679 and gave the above web address. He then said I could find the ID number by hitting the windows button on my keyboard.  When I told him I did not have a windows button, he said he would have to transfer me to the "Mac" team and they would call me in an hour.  He said the windows team must have received my information due to "misplaced records."  I asked that he not have them call. He said he was in Clifton Park City, NY, and that he has worked there for 5 months.

I am on the National Do Not Call list, so this was an illegal call.

This exact thing happened to me they have been calling me all day.  I told him my computer is currently turned off.  Then he told me to go turn it on and I will show you someone is trying to hack it. It sounds like they are trying to get you to allow them to remotely connect to your pc.  He also claimed to be microsoft tech support and said he was from new york city and his name was james.  I had to have him spell it cause I couldn't understand what he was saying. He gave me the same phone number.   This has to be a fraud.

Received call from 855-428-9679 from Harry of an Online Computer Expert service of Microsoft  He is a certified Engineer.  He stated that he had received several notices of hackers trying to get into my computer and to prevent my computer to crash I need to act fast.  I told him that now was not a good time, I was cooking.  I did this so I could at least one, call the number back to see how would answer and how they would answer and two, google the number to see if anyone else had experienced this.  Well when I called the phone ring about two times and no one said anything.  I continued to hold and after a minute or so a recording came on saying my call was very important to them and to hold on for a rep.  A rep with an accent came on identifying himself as an online computer expert for microsoft. I hung up.  A couple of minutes later a women called.  I told her not to call because I had already advised Harry to call back in an hour and that I am busy cooking (busy looking them up on the computer).  When I googled the number I don't know if anyone else saw this but there are nice websites to advise their service.  Scam or no scam?!  From reading other peoples comments I think it is a scam.  Help!.....I think I am going to call Microsoft and ask if they have a company that does this type of service for them.....yeah...that's an idea

Same phone number harassing my mother-in law.  This is the second call in 1 1/2 weeks to her home and it is becoming ridiculous.  Anyone paying attention to this, do not answer phone calls from the number 917-284-9416!!!   I would answer the phone and just leave it off the hook every time they called if I were to answer it.  That irritates these people and wastes their time!!!!

Woman with heavy East Indian accent, she knew my name, address and phone number, as well as my son's name. (Facebook???) I asked her what city she was calling from, she said New York. When I asked her supervisor what city he was calling from he said London, but he wasn't able to explain why there was a difference between him and the woman. They said that people were hacking my computor and stealing my private information and they could help me to reconfigure my security file to prevent this from happening.
She phoned 5 or six times to other family members before she got to me. The call back number they gave me was 1-800-428-9679.

Support.  Said they were monitoring my computer and that someone is trying to hack it.  He said he needed me to go into my computer. I told him I needed a number to verify who is calling and was given this number. Decided to check google first to see reports. So glad I did and will warn family & friends.
