Debt Collector
This is nothing more than a collection firm. They have nothing to serve you and are only collecting a debt. They said I had a lawsuit with a harris county court but couldnt give me a docket # or the number to the court. They also clained they were working on behalf of an attorney but couldnt give me his number either. I played along as if I was going to pay if they gave me address to send in payment and received a letter from WM Litigation. Folks dont be fooled. What official authority is going to call you before they serve you to warn you they are coming and give you the chance to be served at home vs work.

I got transferred around to 4 different people, all wanting more information.  When I finally got to a "Director of Operations" he cursed at me because I wouldn't give them my social security number.  They wanted to serve me court papers.  Don't be scammed.

Yes, a lot of us here know what they want. Money. Simple as that.
Your caller is probably using you as an "end-around"  for his target. The pitiful frauds will try to soften up their targets by calling friends & family of their, hoped for, sucker. The tactic is so well known here that is has become passé. We hear it all the time.
An acquaintance of yours has been foolish enough to put their info. on the net. The fraud is doing some amateur skip-tracing & you popped up on his radar. It could be from a social media site (such as Facebook or Twitter) or it could something as simple as you having a similar name. The frauds don't care. If they can't work their target, they'll try to intimidate or embarrass him/her by calling employers or associates. If that fails, they'll try to defraud whoever answers the phone.
The world is chock-full of frauds. The internet has brought every one of them as close as your phone. Never worry. Keep an eye on your accts. and....
Be Safe. Be Aware.

Probably extortionist scammers trying to scare people into paying some bogus debt.  If you were going to be served any kind of court paperwork (like a court summons, for example), you wouldn't receive a call beforehand to "verify" the address - they would already HAVE the correct address.  I've posted more info. about these scams -

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

So, what should I do?  I experienced same situation.  For me, the lady told me she's from "Processing Center in Orange County".  She said that Mohamed, M and I signed some documents, and she needed to verify the address if Mohamed, M lives in the address.  When I told her that I've lived in the place for last several years, and there is no one by the name.  And, she told me that I was dishonest. (yeah, right.... )  I told her clearly that I never signed anything for anyone, nor went down to Orange County.  I told her I would like to report for fraud because my information was fraudulently used.  And she told me it's not necessary because they will not call back again.  What do they want?  does anyone know?

A couple things have happened:
1) Wife got a call from some "clerks office" around 1p looking for Mark M (I'm purposely withholding the name as it's not relevant). The person says the police were coming to serve me papers the following day because some Mark M said I was a family member. I don't even know this dude.
2) After that call, I kept getting calls (about 3-4) that would hang up after I picked up
3) I decide to stay home the following day to try and try to get this clerks office on the phone
4) They call and leave a message (my phone service transcribes voice calls for me) that says ""We have important documentation that is being issued out to the property address at <blanked out my address> for Mark M(?) if you have any questions or concerns in regards to the particulars of the documents that are being processed it through the clerks office. Please contact eight 855-568-9765 again that is 855-586-9765. When calling back please reference the file number is at <gives file number> again that is file number <restates file number>. If there is no call back within a twenty four hour period we will simply deem the address and employment site as valid and verified and the documentation will be delivered."
5) They force my hand to call back because I'm not verifying anything by virtue of the fact I'm not calling back.
6) I call the number specified and I get some guy who asks for the file number. Before I give him the file number, I ask "what is this office or number". He says, "We are WM Litigation Group". I repeat what he says to make sure I heard it correctly. He affirms I'm correct. He says hold on and I'm put on hold. He comes back and asks if he's speaking to Mark M. I emphatically say, "no you are not". He then asks, "Do you know this person, Sir?". I reply, "No, I do not know this person", he replies, "OK, Sir, have a good day" and hangs up on me. Real classy. He obviously wasn't interested in providing me any more information.
