Scam artist , my daughter was threaten if she did not pay a debt to Phoenix on behalf of GTE Federal credit  union of 600 by 5 pm that day she would have a felony warrant out on her. My daughter stated per her credit report she didn't owe GTE but paid partial payments the month of February and March. These people need to be STOPPed on Monday I plan on contacting State Attorney and FTC.  I have a letter from Phoenix on the payment arrangements however doesn't mention the creditor as GTE it says Discount Advance. There is also another number 6307017763 that is also scam artist, they tried on Friday to get money 1400. But when they ask for my credit card I knew then they were not for real.

Debt Collector
Received phone call demanding debt owed compass bank. Couldn't give me any info other than my wife's name and 'compass bank'. Kept shouting compass bank whom I've never banked with.

Told her she was a scam and a man grabbed the phone.  Compass bank, okay your debt.

Hope these guys get what's coming their way and pray no one falls prey to this joke.

Phoenix Processing Group is the name of the company. Greg Myers, Senior Associate called me at work regarding "a bank transaction out of NC". He left a phone number and a complaint number to reference when calling back. No idea what this is in reference to and of course, not calling back.

They called me 5 days ago and left a minute and a half message where they gave me the name of the so-called company and that he, "Mr. Tate" needed a call back and that, "this is not a solicitation, it is a courtesy call". I, of course, did not call them back. I googled the name and number and called my lawyer. He said they are not a valid company and do not give out any personal information to them no matter what they say (i.e. some of these scammers will tell you there is a warrant out for your arrest just to fish for information like your social). Don't give them your social even if they tell you they already have it! Just because they have the last 4 does not mean they have the rest!!

This morning they called my parents. I'm in my late 30's and have not lived with my parents for 20 years. They told them I was in trouble with the law and I had been sent a subpoena that I did not respond to. Of course they panicked but did not give out any information, just took the message and called me 6 times afterwards. My parents' phone number is unlisted. They most likely have the same system as a skip tracer and will harass anyone with ties to your name.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

They called me, my parents, my brother and my landlord all within a few minutes a few Saturdays ago.  Say that I am bring brought up on a civil matter because I didn't pay a payday loan.  Completely false.  They were very unprofessional.  Sounded like 3 people in a basement with an old rotary phone lol.  Told them I had already reported it to the attorney general and they could rot in hell.  They haven't called back. :)
