Kitty, you might want to run a search for your name. Sites such as Spokeo often list possible relatives.

Hmmm, my step father received a call for me to contact this number about getting served papers and that they have been by the house and so on. The interesting thing is I have never used his name for anything or number. So, how did they even get his name and number? I don't owe anything. I'm so tired of getting these calls along with them calling people I don't even associate with. Has anyone received a call from 855-779-7141?

These people keep calling random people I know and are telling me it's a "courier" trying to serve summons. When I ask for information like a case number or what court they filed their "summons" through she just would change the subject to everything will be in the summons when your served. These people are spineless and get down right rude once they realize their scare tactics are BS and I don't buy into it. Also to stop calls you can send or fax a generic decease and desist letter and they can't contact you or anyone else.

1st they called me from a blocked number saying that they are sending a summons to my house personally.  Called the number and it was an answering service.  Then they put you on hold until someone picks up.  Then they claimed I had a card for 600+ and claimed they had a judgement for 3,300.  I asked them the court it was filed and the docket number as you can only get  judgement thorugh the courts.  They refused to provide it.  I also asked to provide the name of the law firm that represents them, they reufsed to provide that.  Collection agencies can only sue you if they hire an attorney licensed to practice in the state you live in.   I also checked public records no judgement was ever filed in court.  They hung up on me when I pursued more info.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This B*&%$ called my sister, my brother in law, my parents, my old job and my best friend. Yelled at them, told them I was going to jail, that i would see them in court and they had better hear from me by the end of the day or they were sending out "locators" to track me down. This rude lady was named Brooklyn I believe. At the end of her message to me she said "oh, and Korey, "good luck". Kind of like the "good luck" on the movie Taken! LMAO!! Like whoa...I'm so scared!! WHatever. I'd love to see that b*&$% face to face, bet then she wouldn't have crap to say! They use scare tactics like you wouldn't believe!!!!! Don't answer these calls, they call from blocked or unknown numbers.

I have recieved 3 calls from this number at my home, 2 on my cell phone, one at daughters work and one to her bosses cell phone-looking for my daughter. Wouldn't give any info., never even called her phone (which she has had for 10 yrs!). Yesterday 3 calls were made 2 of them AFTER my daughter had called them and they refused to give her any info-sdaid they would "send her something " but couldn't give any info. Sounded very threatening. I called them back today and asked what the company was and was only told CRS-refused to give me any further info unless I gave my phone number which i refused. At very least poor business practices-at most harrassment.

These people called not  only me, but also my mom, my dad, and my in-laws on numbers that they should never have access too like their cell phones. They said I had a complaint on me and I had until 4:00 p.m. to call them back or else. I think the way the are using extreme scare tactics should be illegal, if it is not already.
