Same here, I hung up on them and they called right back, ignored it and then I called them back, wouldn't tell me who they were with.  Fortunately, I could barely understand the guy so I hung up on him.  They are still hard at work ripping off working stiffs or worse yet unemployed stiffs barely hanging on.

Got a call (during my nap, so I was pretty ticked off about that) from some guy stating he was from some company (I couldn't understand what he was saying-Indian accent and slurring) that they got information that my computer had some type of virus or malware. I kept asking him what he was talking about; he kept telling me to speak up, and finally I asked him what type of computer I had and what did he want?? He said he couldn't tell me whether it was laptop or desktop or anything like that, just that they had gotten information through my internet provider that there was a problem with my computer. I asked him who he was trying to call. He stated a name that my husband gets junk mail in all the time (not sure where that name came from anyways and sometimes we get calls for that name-I assume someone didn't understand us from a company one time when talking over the phone or whatever). I told him no one lived here by that name (which is true). And then I told him that we don't have a computer. He was fiddling around, and said, oh, I must have the wrong number then, uh, I'm so sorry. **My question is how did he get my number?? Is there a list out there that these freaks buy somewhere? I'd like to change my number, for sure!

Same type thing, only they indicated they were with my employer (I work from home on computer)....when they told me it was going to cost 190 for one year I immediately hung up.  It is definitely a scam and they will represent themselves as a contractor from your employer.

These asshats cost me my perfect record of never falling for scams.
DO NOT RESPOND TO THESE SCAMMERS NOR GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!

Unfortunately I fell for their scam: They claim to be working for Windows or Microsoft etc., and are calling you because your computer is infected.
NEITHER MICROSOFT NOR WINDOWS MAKES HOME CALLS -- PERIOD. (I found this out *afterwards, obviously.)

Then "Aaron" (who, btw, has a heavy Indian accent) offers to "prove" to you that the viruses are there by getting you to download a program that allows HIM to take control of your computer -- then he shows you the proof of this supposed "virus."

In reality, he's only showing you the same run-of-the-mill errors that ALL of us get on our comps -- and they aren't dangerous to your comp, either.

Here's where it gets fuzzy; now he claims I owe them a one-time fee of $40 USD, and requests credit card info to put the charge on. I gave him my VISA info. He kept insisting it was wrong. After the 4th time he insisted it was wrong, it finally occurred to me: he was trying to remove it immediately, but he didn't pay any attn to when I told him that there was currently no funds in the account, and the acct would not re-fund until the first of the next month because I live -- BARELY -- on DISABILITY.

That was what tipped me off. As soon as I got off the phone with him, I called my bank, explained what happened, cancelled my Visa card, and put in a request for a fresh one with fresh numbers. Since I am *disabled* it took extra days to get to the bank to sign the required paperwork to begin the process of getting a new VISA card.

Then today (4-12-2012), 'Aaron' calls me back. I don't have caller ID, so I didn't see it coming. I asked why he was calling, since I told him numerous times that there would be no funds in my account until the beginning of May.

NOW I realized he was fishing for a SECOND stage of scam -- he was going to ask for my account number and routing number!

That's when my patience ran out. I told him I cancelled my VISA card, and there was no way I was going to give him my bank info.

He tried to keep his cool, and said "Well due to your money problem, I paid your $40 out of my own pocket."

I said, "Aaron, I looked up your phone number online, and it is listed on no less than SIX Scam-Alert Websites." At this he insisted he was not a scammer; I responded, 'Well why do all these websites insist that you are part of a scamming outfit?'

He began tripping over himself, saying I should Google *my own name* as proof I'd been infected or owed them, he was getting hard to understand at this point.

Then he said "Well I guess I will just have to have this taken from my pay, but I will concider it a donation to my church." (He stated this in a mock-sad tone, of course.) He stated this at least three times.

I repeated that I had long-trusted the websites that reported his number as connected to a mega-scam outfit.

AND HERE'S THE KICKER: Look up the website for yourself: www.pcoutput.com  and you will see the REAL scam: they'll charge your card $169.99 "for a year's protection." Even the $40 claim is a lie -- making it seem less scary to get your credit or debit card info so they can rob you later. (You will see numerous victim's reports on the scam websites; just Google "855-791-1190" and go to the first few websites listed.)

NOW, Do yourself a favor and look into another more revealing website that warns you about this scam: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml

Take time to read the complaints (and suggestions) on that page -- you'll see that some people were robbed of over $500 !

I called my bank back and asked what else I could do; they suggested notifying my local police also, but thanks to the great, helpful people on the anti-scam websites, I'm also notifying the FTC and all other law branches suggested, because even though I did not give these scammers my bank acct # and router #, it is possible they can get it out of my computer since they did gain access to my computer. And since I told them my account funds automatically at the beginning of the month, they know when to try to withdraw funds.

I can only hope these 'after-the-fact' precautions can halt them before they rob me.

I'm happy to reveal my stupidity if it can save as few as one or two potential victims.

Even though I'm listing the name of the company listed on the website, please remember, THEY USE MULTIPLE COMPANY NAMES AND EMPLOY "GHOST" PHONE NUMBERS. They will tell you your comp will crash within hours if you do not accept their "help." SCARE-TACTICS are their primary tool: making you fear you will lose your computer through crashing permanently and such.

Take Care & Good Luck!

Received an unsolicited call stating that my computer is in danger, something about my IP address being "on the Internet."  The caller wanted to send a technician out to evaluate my computer, at no charge.  Based upon what they find, they will give me a quote to fix it.

As a retiree, I resent being preyed upon by those who assume the elderly are ignorant of such things.  As a retiree with professional cybersecurity experience, the caller's "script" makes no legitimate sense.  I know that my computer's IP address is not visible to the internet, only my router is visible.

Besides fraud, this approach is egregious because of the additional threat posed by letting ANY STRANGER have access to a computer, for "diagnosis" or any other purpose.  A typical scenario would be simple -- the visiting technician inserts a "diagnosis CD" into my computer and NOW my computer IS INFECTED.

This kind of scam is more than a nuisance and may be even more than fraud.  There is a real danger that this is a concerted effort to infect computers -- the kind of thing that richly deserves law enforcement attention.

Got a call from this number and when I picked up the phone and said hello, nobody on the other end even answered... although I could hear some faint rustling of papers or something in the background.

Well, at least one of the low-life morons who is behind this scam was kind enough to spam this board with multiple messages saying how wonderful "pcoutput" is.  So that leads us right to these scammers at...

www.pcoutput.com

Definitely low-life Indian scumbags hawking "support" for the low low price of only $169.99 per year.  Go to the web site and scroll down to the bottom and then click on CHARGEBACK AND REFUND POLICY.  What an effing joke!  Broken English *AND* they say you have to _explain_ why you want your money back.  Um, gee, heck, I don't know.... maybe because you a-holes are running a rip-off SCAM?

Get a life scumbags!  Better yet, get a real job that doesn't involve ripping off stupid Americans who happen to have more money than brains.

Received a call from a guy with a heavy Indian accent claiming that I had a virus on my computer and wanted that I opened it up. The display on my phone showed 855-791-1186. I told him that I could not understand what he was saying and would call him back. He stated that his name was Olive and his number now was 855-791-1190. Called my son who is a systems developer. He told me that it was a scam. I did not give "Olive" any information, but what agency can you report this to in Montreal Canada, in  order to stop this kind of scam ???

Hey Everyone... I'm still getting calls from the same number, but this time these people are saying that I have won a gift card for $100 and again for $500 for  shopping at Walmart, Target, and some unknown stores.. They then tell you that you had to pay them $2.95 to receive the gift card. I checked the number out and found out it's the same number calling me about gaining access to my computer.. Do not give them anything!

If anyone receive calls like this, contact the FTC at 877-566-7226 and report the incident immediately. You don't have to be a victim of scam to report it.. The FTC wants to know!!!

Also, contact your STate Attorney General's Office- look up the number online.

Also, go to IC3.gov to report any scams online..

It's important that we all stick together to stop this!!!

1) contact your State Attorney General's Office and tell them about the scam
2) File complaint with FTC (Federal Trade Commission)
and call the identity theft line 877-438-4338

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

You are right! That is a scam!!!! I called the number back three times and each time I called someone name Cyrus answered each call. I asked why did he call me and he said because I have malware & spyware on my computer and his company received a report to contact me. I then asked him my name and telephone number, he said it would take time for him to find such information out. I said then how do you know what is wrong with my computer before pulling up my file. He then went back around to saying they received a report to their office. He wanted remote access to my computer..NO WAY!! This is a scam!!!!
