Debt Collector
Karen Miller from this company called my job and threatened to come to my job and have me brought up on charges. She gave this information to someone at my job. When I called the number back, the representative refused to send me any information regarding a debt. I asked for the company's address and was denied that information as well.

Like Yef said,  and I said in my previous post,  If it is your debt then you should consider an acceptable solution but make sure that you establish that you are paying someone that has the right to claim and collect the debt.   you should consider contacting the company with original ownership and discuss it with them and the possibility of a settlement with them.   If it is not your debt,  demand validation as previously described and put on the Boxing Gloves.  If any stranger calls me and demands payment on some alleged debt that can't be fully validated,  and by threatening me with arrest,  he had better have his ducks in a row because he is going  to follow the law through the eye of a needle to even discuss a possible settlement.

Heads up and eyes open!!!

You didn't provide too much info, but from what you did say, it does sound like a scam.  People should never pay someone over the phone that cold-calls them.  If you do, in fact, owe a debt to these people then you have a right to demand validation of that debt from them.  And, of course if you owe a debt you should certainly pay it, but make sure you are paying it to the right company.  That's where the debt validation comes in .

They are legally required to provide written validation of the debt when demanded by you.  Real process servers do not give advance warning that they are coming.  If you speak to them again, try to get a mailing address out of them so you can certified-mail these scammers a debt validation demand and a cease_communications demand.  If they refuse, then you can be sure they are a scam.

Did you take out a loan and fail to pay it back? (don't answer that on this board)    If you did,  maybe you should consider an acceptable solution.  However,  if you did not take out a loan,  then I wouldn't let them intimidate me by claiming that I did.  These collectors will use all kinds of scare tactics,  including threats of summons,  arrest,  charges,  etc.,  to scare people into paying.  Most of them couldn't sue a neighbor for dog bite.  I believe in paying any debt that I am responsible for and nothing more.  If anyone calles me and threatens me with serving me or facing charges,  I become beligerant.  I will make them validate every aspect of the alleged debt.  I would demand,  in writing,  verifiable proof and validation of the original debt including the amount of the original loan and the last balance amount as held by the original owner of the alleged debt and all records of any payments made,  date of the last and final payment or activity,  valid copy of any contract that may exist "with my signature on it" .,  proof of their right to claim and collect the debt in my state,   their shoe and shirt sizes and blood type.  Never pay anything that has not been validate.  Just because someone says he has a friend who was served and had to appear in court doesn't mean a thing.  All debts must be validated in writing.  Just because some one calls you on the phone and says that you owe them,  don't mean anything.  VALIDATE IT!   It is your right under the fair debt collections laws and their lawful obligation to provide it....IN WRITING.  If they say they don't have to provide validation or that they don't have it,   they therefore can't prove it,   and you don't owe them a damn thing.

Yes this is completely a real thing... my friend got served papers because of a loan that he took out. they tried to contact him before, but he just ignored it and had to go to court for it. If I were you I would call them and pay what you owe. I mean if you really did get the loan then pay it. Thats how that s*** works!
