I got a call from 877-835-2362 from a guy with a heavy Indian accent saying I owed an ungodly amount of money. Said his name was Kevin Baker and that I or my attorney needed to call him back at 855-894-5103 to rectify the situation because he was sure that I wanted to take care of it. Since it was a case against me and my social security number. This is not the first time they have tried this scam on me. They tend to try for a few months and the lay off for a few and then back on again.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I have received calls all afternoon starring about 1pm today.  They have called my employer.  They have called so many times today that it locked up our phone lines.  We tried tracing the number but they have a 000 prefix.  They are very rude.  The two guys that I spoke with are Dan Richards and Brian Walker.  However I believe it is the same guy.  When I ask for a transaction date and loan amount, I am told this info is not available due to it being presented as evidence in my criminal investigation.  When I ask for a case number, an email, and/or written proof, they get mad and say they will contact my employer.  They even went as far as calling me from my employers number and stated it was a three way conference call.  These sick people are out of control.  I filed a complaint with FTC but am concerned that it will cause a problem if they start back up on Monday.  How long do they normally harass people? When will they stop?

Said i had a pay day loan for 13,000 dollars. Kept calling my work number several times to speak with my manager. I told him "I wasnt dealing with him at work, he then proceded to ask me if i was married because he was looking for a girl. Do not even deal with these people. I am reporting this number to every agency i can think of.

Called my phone repeatedly.  Then started calling my work number.  I have NEVER applied for any kind of cash advance.

I am being called by this number and several others, at work.  The are swearing at me and have tied up my phone lines at work.  I work at a school and they are blocking my emergency number.

I received a call from someone screaming at me about a legal matter  then transfer me to someone got back on the phone i'm asking what is this regarding - then i'm told to be quiet an listen

This number has called our office looking for an employee yells we are liars this needs to stop today he called both lines repeatedly no less than 20 times with in 15-minutes. We have no idea what he is looking for we were unable to obtain any information.  

They called me at my work back to back...telling me that they pressed charges for check fraud all kinds of crazy stuff gave the number to state police they called the number the same man answered an when questioned they hung up on the office.....please do not give these people any info about yourself ....

They called my cell phone 11 times in 13 minutes.  I just let it go.  They haven't left any messages.  I'm trying to find out how to block them.  I think they called my work one day and when I answered with the name of my law firm, they hung up.

I got a call from the man as well and i just politely turned him over to the Federal Trade Commission.  Go to FTC.gov and file a complaint and put your numbers on the the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.

This 8558945103.  Number keeps calling and harrassing me n.my husband saying we owe money for a loan from 6 months ago.  Funny thing is We never applied for a loan. We definetly know its a scam. We contacted our bank and police.  This sick man seriously needs help

For the last three weeeks I have got nothing but harassing calls from these ignorant people. The man that calls says his name is Brad Nelson with a heavy Indian accent. This sick man has found ways to call my phone using different numbers that are disconnected. He has called the place that I used to work at like 20 times saying something about me applying for a loan with his company well I told him I never did and I hung up on him. I hope this sick man gets arrested.

I got a call from these people saying that I owed for a loan in 2011 that I never got they said I did I told them that it was not me and hung up the phone.

They keep calling my work...i work for the federal government..anybody that receives these calls should report the scammers to their state police..fbi is next

They are a fraud, says he is a division of .the sheriffs dept and needs to speak with one of our employees. Says his name is John Carter, which is funny his name is so American sounding and he has such a strong accent..like from India. Also you can hear a serious call center going on in the background..He has called 2 days in row.

This phone number keeps calling my cell and work number. Thick accent, he yells into the phone and leaves abusive messages about arresting me, serving me with a warrant and civil court date. I have requested on several occasions for documentation and have never received it.

Got call from 855-894-5103 at work and was told I owe money.  I researched the allegation and found out that the Fair Credit Reporting Act forbids calls to employers.  This person with a heavy accent claims to be from the legal department of USG.   Got call at home as well and told the caller to cease and desist at the urging of legal counsel.

Man called claiming some legal case and threatening no bail and my friend would go to jail for 5 to 7 years if she did not comply.  Read about that this is a scam online.

Then somehow got my work number and call over 30times. They said I would be arrested and the crazy part nasa was comeing also. This needs to stop and the police do not much with harassing at work place.

I got a similar call last year; when I challenged the heavily accented man on his 2nd call, he got angry and swore at me and I hung up.  I then filed a complant with the FTC.   Hadn't heard from these people (must be him and his family and friends huddled in some cramped cubicle call center) until last week when I got 2 calls from 347-492-1868 (a Bronx NY number) from a heavily accented "James William", from some unrecognizable law firm regarding some unnamed lawsuit, who threatened that if I or my atty didn't respond, "..I can only wish you good luck as you will be sole responsible as this situation falls on you...".  I filed my 2nd complaint w/the FTC.  Today I got a message from a heavily accented "Kelly Smith" who had the same script, unnamed company and unnamed legal issue but this time she ended her threat with..."Have a nice day"....I had to laugh!!  So I will file my 3rd complaint.  But I'd really like to call these scammers back to tell them I know my Consumer Rights and that what they are doing is illegal and that they need to Cease and Desist from calling me again or else my attorney who is standing by will be filing a harrassment suit.  Uggghhhhh!!!!  So annoying but ridiculously funny if you are aware this is a scam.  BTW, the FTC has a consumer site and there was an article there that referenced this particular 855 number and what other scams to be aware of.

This number calls my cell phone which is illegal and leaves threatening harassing phone calls.  This person threatened me, my job and my family.  This is all very illegal.  These phone calls need to stop.  They don't identify who they are or what they are calling about.  Only leave threatening harassing voice mail.
