Whether or not the incoming call is legit or not is moot...... Criminals can spoof caller IDs very easily.

If you receive a call, especially a prerecorded call requesting you call back on a different number, STOP:
Call the company in question through their real contact info and find out if the received call was legit or not.

Your cell phone doesn't have to be registered with Fidelity. If your present or former employer has it, then your 401k or pension fund admin, if Fidelity has it. You employer forwards all contact info to Fidelity.

This is in fact a Fidelity phone number and it is not SPAM. We talked to the rep that called us as we were expecting his call. Many times, they have outdated phone numbers from prior clients. You can call them and have them remove the number from their records and they will happily comply.

I received the call on my cell phone. They asked for my Social Security number and a password. I do have an account with Fidelity but to me asking for your social security number over the phone is no way to do business.

IF it is Fidelity calling, just let them know you would prefer not to be called again in the future. They have the ability to mark this on your account information.

This is a legitimate call from Fidelity Investments re retirement accounts, usually 401Ks they manage for your company.  The extension number refers to the rep on your account.  The caller ID number is 859-486-2373 but the call back number is 877-450-4015 with an extension number.  Given how many 401ks are tanking and how many companies are switching their management of retirement accounts, Fidelity is checking in with customers.  You probably want to take the call.

I just received a call from this number today,  February 25, 2010.   I did NOT answer it as it came up "Fidelity Investments" on the ID.   I agree with you !!!   " I " will call somebody if " I " want to talk to somebody.  They were a pain in years past and the guy left a message about a year ago that he would never call again.  Must be somebody else from that company.  I don't want to TALK to ANYONE that has anything to do with Delphi or GM !!!

This is legitimate.  Our company takes calls from them all the time from this number.  Many times they are calling to update addresses or maybe even report that someone is trying to make a withdrawal from your 401k.  You should take the call.  Covington, Kentucky is the location of Fidelity's headquarters.

I understand all the reasons for skepticism, but I can vouch for the legitimacy of these calls as well. I work for Fidelity in the dept making these calls and I know they have many phone #s (dedicated trunk lines used by hundreds of people, common with any phone center). How could the largest financial services firm in the country with over 22 million customers NOT have a ton of phone #s that they must use for dialing both inbound and outbound ?!?! This # is only one of many with this same issue.  We give a toll free # for return calls so it is free for you to call us back. We don't always leave msgs for a variety of reasons, but for me it is usually because I can only give very generic info (because I don't know who will review the message). Besides, people often don't return our calls when we leave generic messages, sometimes it is just easier to keep trying to reach them. Plus, we are just lazy some days, at least I am. We talk inbound and make outbound calls all day, sometimes I don't leave a message b/c I have another call coming in.
If you ever question someone's validity, call us through your plan's phone # and have someone else confirm them, I do that all the time. (That's how I found this thread actually) Believe me, I wish they would fix this so people could call us back on the same #s from caller ID, but until they do, we have to live with the confusion every day.
Bottom line though, it is NOT a sales call, we are not tele-marketers (which is why the do not call list stuff doesn't apply), we do not even have anything to sell to you !! We are just trying to help you. If you don't want or need help, them just tell us and we'll be done with it. But we don't know that until we talk to you. You won't hurt our feelings, we are just reaching out to you to either follow-up on prior conversations, or to offer help when some event has occurred that prompts a call (such as layoffs, plan changes, etc.)  Not everything is a scam or a sales call folks...  just call us if you are questioning anything we've done and we'll explain it to you. And call your plan's toll free # if you don't trust the person who left the message, but don't assume the worst without any follow-up whatsoever.

If you notice in this thread, "Called in Seattle" is repeatedly the only one to endorse this call.. HA!  nice try.
Again - does not matter who calls for what reason, NEVER discuss finances unless you know the person and can verify that it is them, and YOU asked them to call you.

It's a bogus sales call..  If Fidelity needed to talk with you, they would send u something in the mail... not a telemarketing ploy.. I hope NO ONE would talk about their finances with someone who called unsolicited.  That would just be insane.

Since you're from Plano, I guess that you're a retired or RIF'ed TI employee (as I am).  That was your Fidelity benefit coordinator.  They called me today from this number to help set up my pension, 401(k) and insurance.

ps. The number shows up and cant be called because it is a Outbound "trunk" line only. The same thing payphones and hospitals operate off of. It has to have a line number to work in the switch, but cannot be called.

It is Fidelity. And they can call you if you are on a Do Not Call list - because you have an account with them. Do Not Call is for solicitations from companies who bought a list of tel. #'s - I use to work for Verizon which is why I know. Read the info at the Do Not Call Registry website to double check my statement.
Good luck

I've received calls from Fidelity in the past to discuss my 401k.  It's an annoying sales call, but reputable.  However, the Fidelity calls always included a message and a respectable caller id.  I wouldn't trust anyone with UNAVAILABLE as a caller id.

They are required to talk on a recorded line for quality control to ensure no insider trading or bad advice given.  This is legit.

Got a call that my phone identified as 859-486-2373, but the caller said he was Tim (Rectin? not sure I heard the last name right) from Fidelity, and would I call him back at 877-450-4015 x6272 to talk about my 403 B plan from my former employer, which he named. My former employer had a laptop computer stolen with personal info of employees. When I called Fidelity, they said all their numbers began with 800. not 877, so I did not return the call.
