I keep getting  calls from a woman named Mary from "American". She never leaves a number to call back. Sounds like a recording. I also got the annoying phone calls from Trent Treadwell. I am wondering if there are any ties. Most likely a scam... F@#* off Mary from "American", find someone else to harass!

It's a collection agency a/k/a American Collection Systems.  HINT: Write them a letter stating that you "formerly and unconditionally dispute their claim" even if the claim is valid...  send it Certified and Return Receipt Requested (Cost: About $5).  And, by law, American (or any collection agency for that matter) must stop their collection efforts against you.  In all likelihood, after a period of time (usually within four months), they will return the case to the merchant they were representing as "uncollectible".  And, if it's a small amount under $500, in all likelihood, the merchant will write it off.  Otherwise, the merchant may re-assign the case to another collection agency or attorney for further collection efforts.  But, either way, it should almost immediately stop the collection agency (in this case "American") from continuing their collection effort against you or by you some time if the amount is valid and more than $500.   Again, "I formerly and unconditionally dispute the claim" with no further comment or information, period.  Good Luck.

This is a collection call though they will not identify themselves or leave a message as such.  They have called my house phone which is unlisted and have now found a way to my cell number.  Though I am on the national do not call lists. Contrary to the requirement that the caller clearly identify the purpose of the call and the organization that they represent and that they have previous business relationships (if they in fact do so) with you.  "Beth"  Left number to call back as 866 391 3508.  The caller id is 614 410 6204 (Ohio).
