mr. Santana is not an attorney.  he is a debt collector who was calling to collect on an old GE Money Bank account with Old Navy.  He said that he was calling to see who my attorney was that would be representing me in court, as I was about to be sued.  He told me that he was taking it to the "review board" in the next 45 minutes, and I needed to pay the balance in FULL right that second, or I would be going to court.  I am recently divorced, and this was a debt that my ex-husband was supposed to assume.  He hasn't paid a dime on it.  I told him that, he told me he didn't care, that he was going to contact the state of Indiana and garnish my wages, and they have done an "investigation" and know what assets I have and how much money I have, and what I own.  He said that they could come and take those things, and take up to 25% of my paycheck.

BUT....I started talking with him about unrelated things (ie: the housing market in my area, my divorce, my house, my job, etc.) and he softened up.  Before we hung up the call, he had agreed to give me 30 days to pay the bill, over three payments, and promised to never call me ever again.

I think Mr. Santana is a nice person, but is an a**hole because that is what his job entails.  Talk nice to him, and he'll be nice back.
