This number called and the operator asked to speak to someone called Tracy. I do not know of anyone by that name and told her of this. The woman began to get very impatient and rude and demanded that I give her MY details to 'update her records'. There was no way that I was going to do this and told her that I would not be falling for her obvious scam and to not call me again. She proceeded to shout and cuss very loudly down the phone before hanging up. She rang back once a minute for the next fifteen minutes, obviously to play games.
The number has been ringing every hour since then and when I have answered, it is the same script being read except the name they ask for is different each time, as is the person calling (although some of the male callers sound like the same person putting on a voice). I have asked numerous times for them to cease calling me but the person just hangs up every time I do.
It is getting quite ridiculous now. I will be forced to report their scamming activities if they continue to harass me and be verbally abusive. Not one caller has verified their details to me.

Same as everyone else. They won't leave a msg. I don't know who they are calling about. I did find out they are debt collector. Many times I have asked them to take me off the list. They say they will and it will take about 2 minutes and guess what? I get cut off. Don't bother trying to call them back. The number just rings and rings and rings.

The telephone number 866-883-0395 is from Calvary, a debt collection agency. They use many different numbers and I think most of what they do is illegal but who can prove it. Now when my voice mail picks up the call they play some horribly loud music for a while then a femal voice starts asking "hello?". "hello?'. They never leave a message. I'm on the do not call list but it doesn't stop these underhanded people probably looking to make a fast buck on the elderly.

These calls are from Calvary Portfolios, LLC. They are junk debt buyers. They purchase debts from businesses (such as Sprint, MBNA, etc.) that the businesses couldn't collect. The businesses sell the bad debt to Calvary (or other junk debt buyers) for pennies on the dollar.
Once that happens, Calvary now owns that debt and they may use legal means to collect it. But they MUST follow the FDCPA, which is short for the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT, which is part of the Consumer Credit Protection Act.
Here is a copy the FDCPA on the Federal Trade Commission's web site:
http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm
For an explanation of what the junk debt buyers do with the debt they have purchased (posted on a web site forum by a former employee of a junk debt buyer):
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/forums/debtbuyer-myths.html
Now if you want to stop them from calling you (regardless of whether or not the debt may be yours), you need to send them a C&D (cease and desist) letter informing them that it is "not convenient" for them to call you at home, on your cell phone or at your place of employment. Insist that they only contact you in writing and then give them a valid mailing address (don't give a phony...read a bit further).
Send the C&D letter by certified mail with proof of delivery (they must sign the card and the USPS will return the signature to you). After that, if they continue to call you, or have debt collectors call you, they can be fined $1000 for each call *after* they have received your C&D letter.

They asked for one of my parents, got the gender wrong, and asked to confirm and give them their social security number. Definitely beware of these people!

Received numerous calls a day from this company and I finally decided to answer the phone last week when they called. They asked for someone who I do not know. I asked them to remove my number from their system. They called three times today, each time I asked them to remove my number. The third time the agent identified himself as Michael Vonn and stated he was calling from California Portfolio (caller ID shows them as 800 service) regarding a debt for someone I have never heard of before. I demanded to speak with a supervisor and was sent to Brian Lohmeyer who promised to take my number off their list (I was angry and told him if they called one more time I was filing a complaint and his name - which I doubt is real - would be in the complaint). They appear to use google in an attempt to track down debtors and seem to do a shotgun attempt by calling everyone in the phone book with the debtor's last name.

We received a call from the same number; they asked my husband to verify the last 4 number of his SSN; it wasn't what they had so he hung up on them. Then today, I received a call from 800-861-4763 and after googling the number found out that this number belongs to Wolpoff & Abramson Llp a debt collection agencycompany with a horrible reputation. Unfortunately, after she asked for my husband, who wasn't home, she asked me to verify the last 4 numbers of his SSN--I, in so many words, told her "no". Eventually she asked me to 'do her a favor and hang up the phone'. Yep, I did after I had a few choice words for her. I would report them but after googling the name, I don't think I could add anything to what I have already read about them.

Caller asked what alarm company we had. At that point my husband said it was none of her business and hung up.
| me 2011-06-06 21:03:30 Unknown |
asked about our address...it wasn't what they had, and didn't give it to them either.
| Atticus 2011-06-06 21:03:30 Unknown |
When my wife answered, they asked for me, then asked if she was my wife, and asked to verify our mailing address. She hung up at that point. No idea who it is yet.
