DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.
http://www.att.net/smartcontrols-809AreaCode
Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Do report the calls, Jamaican and US officials are still actively tracking down and arresting the offenders:

Also:
It is a scam:

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.
Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.
"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees, and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T! It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T. The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!
Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award. PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award. Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"

I received a call from 8765711091 today. The guy told me I won publisher's clearing house 3.8 million second prize winner and wanted me to wire 1% through Walmart or Walgreen or CVS. I said no since I knew it was a scam. No one would ask you to pay money up front if you truly win something. I immediately hung up. I sure hope my phone bill does not go up because of this nonsense call.

I was surprised when a Jamaican phone number called me. The man was obviously not Jamaican. He told me I won a convertible and 3.4 million dollars from Publisher's Clearing House. He asked if I wanted to claim the prize and I said, "No, thank you." He promptly hung up.

Just got a phone call ? I am the lucky winner of a second chance drawing with Publishers Clearing House, that I?ve never entered. I?ve won a substantial amount of money to be sent by cashier?s check along with a Mercedes Benz Jeep with all leather interior. All I have to do is let them know when I?ll home.
The phone number is listed as 1.876.393.7911 but registers out of Jamaica.

Slow deliberate speaking man called, deep voice, 9pm Sunday Night. Said I won second place in Publishers Clearing House, because I was a good citizen and shopped at Walmart and CVS. Call disconnected as he recited his number to call him back on. Then a text came from the number asking me to call 876-393-7911.

I just received a call from this number as well. It was a man with a thick accent saying that it was the Publishers Clearing House. When I asked them to remove me from their calling list he said, "This is the booty shop. What size is your booty?"
| gt 2013-11-15 17:22:07 Unknown |
Didn't answer because was aware of 876 being from Jamaica and that can even be charged for 876.

I got the Publishers Clearning House call today from the Jamaican number. This is such a joke and I can't believe people would fall for it but I guess it only takes one person with no common sense to make their plot successful. Think about it people - did you enter a sweepstakes that would get you millions of dollars and a new car??? How you would speak with them long enough to know about the CVS or Walmart angle, please be smarter than this...

Same call as smartindvm. He said I won 2.9 million and a 2013 Mercedies. He said he was from Publishers Clearing house. He spoke really slow and if you listen closely there is sometimes a dog barking in the background. He wanted me to send like 400.00 dollars via CVS or Walmart. He was very specific about the two places to use. The must not watch out for their customers! Watch out!!!

Ok so these guys called saying ther wer from publisher's clearing house and that I was a second place winner. I had won $485K and a 2013 benz. So much was wrong with this call: a baby playing in the background, the rep and his manager had speech impediments, the manger could not tell me the name of the company, and then I had to send money to them via western union. That was my red flag! Hung on the guy in the middle of his very slow sentence. They call me back three times. I answered the phone and someone was just repeating hello. The second time I just let the phone ring and the last time I answered and acompletely different guy asked me was I interested. I said no and hung up. FYI, PCH does not notify winners by phone, you can call 1-877-379-3377 which is the real PCH and verify if you won and this number only monday thru Friday. These guys called me on a Saturday. Be careful. ANybody asking you to doanything via western union is a scam!!!

Report them to the FTC. They are cooperating with Jamaican authorities to get these scammers.

I recieved a call from this same number. He claimed to be Mr. Mark Madison and told me that I won 500,000 dollars and a Mercedies Benz, then he told me I won a 2013 jeep Cherokee. He said to pay the .1% legal charges and to put it on a Walmart greendot reloadable money card with the confermation code 935.winner along with a 425 dollar charge with legal fees. I questioned him then he told me he could not get the money if i had a reciept. I let my dad talk to him and he chewed him out. He claimed that he was on a company phone so I texted him saying im sorry my dad dosent understand and to call me back and id put the money on. He then called me back and then i knew it was a scam.

Received a call from the number876-393-7911 said won a Mercedes Benz and 800,000.00 and all I needed to do was give 1% down and I would get my prize. They said to wire the money via Western Union. They would send someone to my house with my prizes along with a couple of FBI agents. They gave me the name of Miss Serena Byrd as a lawyer in Little Rock, California 98985. He said his name was Michael Madison. I didn't give them any info and looked this up on line and found the same hoax was pulled on others.

These calls are all BS, if you could send odors throught the phone line, a really good fart in the phone would be appropriate. Dont even bother answering the pnone.

I received a call today as well ... the guy works to be very convincing, he will even get to the point where it will cost you 1% that you will be refunded from the 100% total prize package that you have to submit using Western Union. The prize I was offered was $785,000 and a 2012 Esquire Mercedes Benz. Claimed this was a second place prize from HGTV. He gave me a name of John Anderson and that he would be my agent during this process ... also claimed to be a minister. Referenced Wal-Mart, Walgreens and CVS as part of the promotion somehow - HGTV is giving gifts to good citizens in Michigan with monthly prizes. As much as it would be great to receive/win a prize, it sounded too good to be true and he couldn't give me anything that I could use to verify on the internet that this was a legitimate call.

Received call from 876 393 7911. Mr mush in the mouth hung up when I was rude, with a few words, and asked him how it got this number. Called back and they play foreign music.

I received a call on my cell phone from a male with a thick accent, obviously foreign and from another country. He said his company was called Urban Oasis. He stated that I won a prize of $485,000.00 and a Mercedes Benz. He wanted my name and address so arrangements could be made to claim the prize. I told him he should KNOW my name, since he had called me about the prize on my unlisted private cell phone. I asked him what his name was, and where he was calling from, and his reply was "John Henry, calling from Morgan City, Louisiana." Of course I did not give out any of my information. I just laughed at him because I knew that the number he was calling from did not have Louisiana area code, (It's a Jamaican number), and I seriously doubted that he gave his real name. I'm pretty sure this is a Scam - I went online and found other people who complained of a very similar scam. People should be warned.
