First red flag, my caller ID said Jamaica.  And the caller, who had a very excited movie star/game show host voice, said that I just won 2.5 million dollars through Publishers Clearing House. I knew to be leery, so I didn?t scream like an idiot. The caller asked why I wasn?t excited, and I said it was because I was at work. We did a 10 minute interview where he asked me what I was going to buy, did I want the Prize Patrol to come to my work or home, or did I want to stay anonymous. He knew my work and home number, address and date of birth.

After the interview, he gave me a confirmation number and a second number to call. This guy?s name was Jon Clark, but he had a very thick accent, Middle Eastern or Indian, but he spoke very clear and proper. He said that if I wanted to remain anonymous, I had to pay a $1500.00 fee, since PCH gets advertising by showing winners, OR if I wanted the prize patrol to show up at my work or home, I had to provide my bank account and routing number. I was so mad, if you ?win? money, you don?t have to give anything. I knew it was a scam, but I played along.

I told the guy that I?d have the 1500 at the end of the week. The guy told me, that he would do me a favor and hold my money for up to ten days, then it would go to the ?next winner on a list on 50?. Then he told me not to talk to anyone, even my family or friends, because people would try to pose as me and claim my prize. In reality, he thought I fell for the scam, and didn?t want me to get the opinion of another rational person.

I called the real PCH, as I waited on hold, the message they played was, "If you are contacted by anyone claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House and they request payment of any amount to collect a prize, do not send any money... You have not heard from the real Publishers Clearing House.?

I had to wait 15 minnutes to the real PCH scam department. I gave them my story, they said sorry for my experience and rushed me off the phone. They must get hundreds of calls like mine a day. I was so hurt that I was not a millionaire. I could totally see someone desperate or young handing over 1500 dollars or their bank info in order to get millions. TOTAL SCAM.
