Amber, thank you for a GREAT post! If more potential victims displayed your attitude this scam would have died off ages ago.

As I am sure you know, there is never a reason to call back an "876" number these foul smelling chiggers provide. NEVER!  Sadly you will discover that the authorities can not/will not do anything to combat these vile creatures. It is up to us - just as "crowd sourcing" helped to locate the Boston bombers - to exterminate this vermin. When these black stained rodents call again - and they will - please:

1) Answer the phone and try to prolong the call. Ask it to repeat information: its name, its location, etc. The more time it spends talking to you, the less time it has to call other potential victims.

2) Frustrate the caller. If it appears to be in a hurry, talk even more slowly. If it talks slowly, speak rapidly. A frustrated chigger makes mistakes.

3) Determine exactly what information it has about you. Usually it is just your phone number and perhaps your first name. In some cases,  these vile creatures DO have most of your personal information. What should you do in that case? Poison their database. "Oh, that is my old address. Here, let me give you my current one." At which point you can provide the address of a vacant lot or maybe the address of your local police station. Use your imagination.

4) Try to extract as much information from it as possible. There are many variants of this scam currently active. If they are using the "Green Dot Card" version you MUST switch them to a different one (suggest sending them a check but compromise on using a "Moneygram.")

5) Record the call and share that information here in this forum. When you post, please include your area code - JUST your area code - along with your posting name.

my number in google map search and now has directions to my house &a picture of my surroundings.he knows i am home alone with my 4 year old son cant work and my husband is gone to work (he asked me all these simple questions while we were supposedly on hold with the IRS for confirmation that my check was released) THIS IS SCARY. he gave me 3 different numbers to call...1st call from 8768579783 JOHN STEVENS 2nd was transferred to 8764637243 thats JAMAICAN LUCAS 3rd is mywinning confirmation recording 6 digit code (053940) 8669965997.TRY IT CALL THEM THEY HAVENT EVEN CHANGED THE NUMBER TRY IT THESE GUYS ARE SO COCKY & THINK THEY CAN RIP OFF HARD WORKING AMERICAN CITIZENS & IMPERSONATE FBI AGENTS READERS DIGEST AND AMERICAN PUBLISHERS CLEARING HOUSE AFFILIATES (even said DONALD TRUMP was the owner of this company ALONG WITH THE U.P.S POSTAL SYSTEM THESE PEOPLE ARE TERRORISTS & ARE GETTING AWAY WITH IT (OUR MONEY SECURITY AND OUR PRIDE) PLEASE FILE A POLICE REPORT & HELP CATCH THESE THEIVES IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU

i then as i said was very skeptical and after talking for two hours with this manager LUCAS he said he would prove it to me that when he gets the money he will be able to reimburse me he wantd to know the time and exact amount i paid and to keep my receipt for the IRS he then within an hour i would see my mercedes-benz pull up on a rollback with balloons tied to my doors,a brown ups truck to deliver my check thats bigger than my door the lawyer for the company MARY JONES 2 FBI agents theSHERIFF when i asked y was the FBI coming he hit me wth a great detail that that much money was not safe to be carrying around. so i believed it and gave him the money.he then said my 2014 mercedes-benz was having issues from the delivery bc there was a liabity on the insurance so i would need to go buy a stamp i dunno something like that and i needed 4 more cards for 1000 dollars i knew something wasnt right he got me for 400 ran up my phone bill to jamaica and made us wait outside in the cold for this stupid truck.

i then proceeded to hurry to the bank all i had was 400 but they would accept 400 b/c when they bring me my check wth a sealed envelope of cash too and icould pay them the other 100 from that. now that i think about it if they are bringing me cash y cant they just pay the other 500 thats left on taxes.makes no sense really well they told me to go to dollar general walgreens wal-mart cvs and buy a GREENDOT MONEY PAK CARD this whole time hes telling me he cant hang up the phone he needs to stay on the phone with me  until my prizes arrived that its policy that he could go to jail and so could i. so for like 2 hours i couldnt hang up. he said he had to talk me through the process of buying and activating the CARD  when i look back he didnt even walk me through any process at all except me giving him the number off the back.it was like he knew that i would be skeptical and had every excuse he could think of just incase i asked a skeptical question.

i received a call from this s.o.b. First i spoke with an indian guy who told me my number was drawn at random b/c i shopped at wal-mart and i pay my bills on time, and when i use my debit card it gives me points.i thought this may be true b/c i use my number when i get my oil changed and pay with a debit card  i should have know then that it didnt sound right. they then proceeded to tell me i was 2nd place winner of 3.5 million dallors and a 2013 mercedes-benz.iwas to get to get a pen and paper and write down JOHN STEVENS BADGE# 707 CHECK# 20133012 WINNING PACKAGE# 770529US. he even had the nerve to U as in UNITED STATES, S as in SOLDIER.He then told me i had to pay 10,500 in taxes but that the company had already paid 10,000 for me.but in order fot the IRS to release it to me i still had to pay 500 dollars.even my husband believed what these b*****ds were telling us.theres no way u put so much detail into it that you feel like its your lucky day and theres a deadline so u have you have to hurry.

I was told that the publishers clearing house had a 4.6 million dollar check for me &  a new Mercedes. I told him to have the Mercedes at my house tomorrow with the check in it & he said F#!*¿ you and hung up.

While visiting Jamaica, our son in Texas received a call from this number. They asked how he was doing down in Texas and then hung up. DO NOT USE THE WIFI IN JAMAICA. It is not a secure connection!!!!

Coming from Jamaica.  
Elderly Woman is receiving calls from this number with atempts to gain financial information, promises of prize winnings.. etc.
