Prank Call
Received a call today telling me I had won 5.5 million from PCH. Left a message with his name as John Spencer and to call 1-876-476-1591. Called the number and got a voice mail saying to leave a message and phone number and they would call back. Just hung up.

Jeanne, thank you for sharing your experience here. Sadly, the local police cannot/will not be able to assist you. If  these filthy rodents call again try find out what they actually know about you (usually, nothing more than your first name) and try to extract as much information from them as possible. If you can, record the call.

What might surprise you is that over 30,000 calls are made DAILY from Jamaica to the United States for the purpose of trying swindle/extort money. Since they seem to target the elderly and spurred on by the powerful AARP lobby, this particular scam is currently the subject of a Federal investigation, using the code name JOLT.

I thought I had finally heard the last from these foul smelling, little animals, when I received a call from someone calling himself "John Felix" (apparently these clowns think every white person in the US has "John" for a first name.) In any event, this "John" was calling to tell me I had won 3.5 million dollars! This was, apparently, a different scam operation than the the one that had contacted me two weeks earlier. In that scheme, I was contacted by a "John Baker" who instructed me to get a Green Dot Money card from CVS to pay my registration fees because I had won 2.5 million from "Mega Millions." These calls are being placed via Magic Jack and the audio quality is very poor. In order to once again pay for "registration fees of 5%," I was instructed to obtain a Money Gram for $499.25 and that I would be sending it to "Lloyd David Cook, 5201 Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA" As it turns out, this address belongs to a sort of homeless rehab facility

Add 876 287 0089 to the list of this scammers #'s. All cell #'s from Jamaica. Always very thickly accented poorly spoken English. Always asking for someone named Della and insisting they have millions for someone if they could just get some personal info. A few questions usually gets an irate/vulgar response and if you attempt to press them back they become verbally threatening. they are very persistent. the only way I've been able to stop the calls is to block the #'s.

Yes, this is a scam. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, tax reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number,  or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money.
Beware area code 876 is Jamaica. If you call them, you'll have to pay international rates. The number may be a premium rate number like our 900 numbers that charge a lot of money per minute. If you don't know anyone in Jamaica, it's highly likely a scammer.
