excerpt from FTC CONSUMER ALERT
A Dozen Ways to Protect Yourself
The next time you get a "personal" letter or telephone call telling you "it?s your lucky day," the Federal Trade Commission encourages you to remember that:

1. Legitimate sweepstakes don?t require you to pay or buy something to enter or improve your chances of winning, or to pay "taxes" or "shipping and handling charges" to get your prize.

If you have to pay to receive your "prize," it?s not a prize at all.

Prank Call
A male caller with an accent (Jamaican?) contacted my cell phone.  He knew my full name and claimed to be from Publishers Clearing House.  He said that he had a check for 2.5 million dollars that he wanted to deliver to me.  I didn't let go any further; I told him that I didn't believe that and hung up.  His number did show on my call list.

I have not dealt with Publishers Clearing House in over 40 years.

I have contacted Publishers Clearing House and reported the scam.  They said they would report it to the FTC and to law enforcment.

Bottom Line:  If it sounds too good to be true; hang up the phone!!!!!
