You NEVER have to pay any money (for any reason whatsoever) to receive your anything you have "won".  If the caller says you need to pay money, hang up!

A man called Bob Brown saying he worked for General Tax Service in Charleston SC stating I had won a cashiers check for $7000.00 US money because I pay my utility bills on time and that only 3 winners won this month..I was told to go to Walmart with $600.00 cash and pick up a senders form he would later call me to help me fill this form out but make sure I get my white receipt. I was told that UPS would deliver my cashiers check but I had to show the receipt and I would also receive my $600.00 back in return. I asked for telephone number he gave 1-876-898-6741 and 1-843-931-4999

Mad one, getting these vile creatures to stop calling is difficult - but not impossible. You first need to understand that you are dealing with a very, VERY primitive intelligence: think rat vice chimp. Next you will need to get inside their heads, cause while screaming/cursing at them might make you feel better (and believe me I have done that MANY times,) it will almost guarantee they will call again. I recall one porch monkey that called and after I let him run his spiel for a while, as if I was hooked, I told him, "When I hang up this phone I am going to spend the rest of the day lounging by my pool and this evening I will be enjoying a steak dinner with my pretty, blond girl friend. You, on the other hand, will go back to your rat hole where you exist with your fat, ugly wife that smells even worse than you do and your 7 children, that are even dumber than you are!" Now THAT guy never called here again!

When these snakes call again - which they will - please record the call. Every little bit of information we can gain and share in this forum will help our investigation. Thanks.

DO NOT return the call from someone calling from a 876 area code.
This is not a toll free "800" number, it is the international long distance code for the island nation of Jamaica. You are charged international and long distance rates for calling this number. Other international/long distance area codes are 809, 284, and 649.
http://www.att.net/smartcontrols-809AreaCode

Scammers use these numbers to not only try to scam you out of money, but also sting you with high phone call rates.

Also:
It is a scam:
http://info.pch.com/consumer-information/fraud-protection

They never require any money, purchases, taxes, fees, or deposits of any kind to get your prize.

Publishers Clearing House DOES NOT call, email, FAX, mail, any advanced notice that you have won.

"If you are ever contacted by someone claiming to represent PCH, or claiming to be one of our employees,  and asked to send or wire money (for any reason whatsoever, including taxes); or send a pre-paid gift card or Green Dot Moneypak card in order to claim a sweepstakes prize ? DON?T!  It?s a SCAM. If you are sent a check, told it?s a partial prize award, and asked to cash it and send a portion back to claim the full prize award, DON?T.  The check is fake, but the SCAM is real!

Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way and would NEVER ask for money to claim a prize award.  PCH employees would never contact you personally or in advance to notify you of a prize award.  Our prize awards are presented just the way you see in our popular TV commercials, ?live and in person? by our Prize Patrol, with balloons, champagne and check in hand - - and with no advance notification!"

A man called our home from this number and tried to talk dirty to my 11 year-old daughter.  She was smart enough to hang up on him, but then he called back and left a lewd message on our answering machine including his phone number.  My husband called the number and when he asked what business the man had calling our house, he swore at my husband and hung up.  We have contacted our local police.

Received voice mail from Mr. Michael of the Publisher Clearing House. Said they had a cashier's check for me for $5,000 (garbled) to be delivered via UPS. He said to call 1-876-898-6741. When I looked at caller ID, it said "Kingston, JM". I'm on the National Do Not Call Registry, so how does he get this #? No, I have not entered the PCH sweepstakes. Why can't the Registry help stop these callers?

The guy used my name and said this is Mr. Michael with publishers clearing house police department, your package is safe, please call 876-898-6741 and ask for Mr. Michael.

My first clue is, I never sent anything to publishers clearing house;
Second why would they have a "police department";

I feel sorry for any person that does not listen to this message and just hears police department and calls them back.

I got a call from this number at 7:10 this morning. He claimed he was from the Tax Return Department (there's no such office, of course...legitimate tax returns come from the US Treasury/IRS) in Las Vegas (it would have been 5:10 AM in Vegas! I'm pretty certain such an office wouldn't be open at that time...)

I decided to have some fun with what was obviously a scammer, so asked why a US government office would have a Jamaican number. He claimed they used "floating" numbers (whatever those are) to cut costs. (By the way, yes he did have a strong Jamaican accent, mon!"

He said I'd been gifted with $20,000 for shopping at Wal-Mart and using coupons (which I don't), so all I needed to do was wire $500 to a Harry Thompson at 404 North Street in Emden, Illinois. I asked why they couldn't just take the $500 out of my $20,000. He said because the UPS driver would need to see a receipt. Wasn't my ID good enough? I asked. He got kind of angry and asked, so what are you going to do? I said, "Hang up." which I did. 20 seconds later, he called back, which immediately disconnected.

I sincerely pray that no one gets taken by this obvious scam. Maybe if we harass them back enough, they'll take the hint.
