I received the same text message this morning around 10:00 AM, however, I did not see it until later in the afternoon after I had withdrawn cash from my credit union via an ATM. I guess it isn't frozen after all.

These guys are identity thieves. Do not give them any information. If they say they have a warrant or will get a warrant to arrest you, invite them to execute the warrant(s). Tell them you will be waiting for them to show up with police officers and your attorney. Be defiant and don't believe a word they say. Call their bluff. They just want to separate you from your money and your identity. They want your personally identifiable information (i.e., social secutrity number and date of birth and your full name).
If they identify themeselves with any FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY (such as the FBI, IRS, US ATTORNEY, etc.) they will have violated Federal Statute Title18 U.S.C. § 912.
Title 18 U.S.C. § 912 (1994), provides that "Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under the authority of the United States or any department, agency or officer thereof, and acts as such, or in such pretended character demands or obtains any money, paper, document, or thing of value, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both. "
Bottom line: BE BOLD AND DEFIANT. Challenge them to arrest you. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION (PII). Ask for a Case #. If you challenge them when they call you, chances are they will not call you again. GOOD LUCK

I just called the WES Credit Union from a landline using a local number. As soon as I said "I'm not a customer, but...", the nice woman immediately mentioned a phishing scam that the CU is trying to stop.
Are you all AT&T customers like me? JerryH, Willoughby OH

I too recieved a text from this alleged credit union (as well as my parents/siblings).
I was confused because although we're part of a credit union, we're not part of this one.
Like the above poster I called it. It's definitely a scam.
Kate 2010-05-10 14:36:49 Unknown
Yep. Also got this text today.
No accts with them, ever.
I assumed it was a scam when I saw it.
I am in the Cleveland area, so it's "local" if truly Willoughby Eastlake Schools credit union
Poor people who will give their info....
Get them 2010-05-10 14:34:46 Unknown
Scam ! Please report to FBI immediately so they can be caught!
cb 2010-05-10 14:29:36 Unknown
I got the same text. I don't have a WES credit union account. I called the number and of course was asked for my "card' number, exp date and secure code from the back of the card. I just entered all 0's and it said that I needed to call the personal account rep but of course gave no number. Yes, its a scam. Anyone who would give account information over the phone to these types of text messages would be crazy!
KAS 2010-05-10 14:23:49 Unknown
I received this on my way to work this morning and although I have an account in a credit union, it's not the one mentioned in the text. Another scam just trying to ruin people's lives....

I got the same text this morning. Although I don't have an account at this credit union, I was a little worried that maybe someone stole my identity. Thank god for 800notes & others had this similar problem!
ME 2010-05-10 14:09:00 Unknown
THIS IS FRAUD!!!!!! DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE!!!! THEY ARE TRYING TO STEAL YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION. CREDIT UNIONS WILL NOT TEXT YOU AND ASK YOU FOR THIS THEY ALREADY HAVE THIS INFORMATION!!!
Jimmy 2010-05-10 14:06:23 Unknown
Yes, Definitely won't be calling back this number. It has to be a SCAM
Richard Brown 2010-05-10 14:04:42 Unknown
I also received this call. I don't have an account with any credit union. I wouldn't call the number if I were you.
Jimmy 2010-05-10 14:04:19 Unknown
I got a text message this morning that read "8772433723@wescreditunion.com()74/;WES Credit Union account is locked. Call Online .Banking Services at 877 243 3723 for assistance."
My wife also go the same text this morning at about the same time. I Couldn't find any information on the number, but the website, www.wescreditunion.com is for Willoughby Eastlake Schools (WES) Credit Union, which is a local credit union in my area. However, neither my wife or myself have, or ever had an account there.
This has to be some type of scam trying to get us to call that number and give up some personal information for an attempted identity theft.
Catalina 2010-05-10 13:59:07 Unknown
This is supposedly from a credit union saying my account is frozen. I have no assets in a credit union.
