called for person no longer living at this number. very urgent you call lisa campbell at 877-243-5126. who are they and what do they want

I got a call from 864-990-5813.  The young lady on the phone indicated that she was from CRA Consumer Recovery Associates.  I asked if she was a debt collector.  She said no.  She just was given my number to call and her supervisor needed to talk to me.  So I let her transfer me.  Her supervisor answered by saying "how can i help you?"  I replied, "how can i help YOU?"  You called me.  She asked what number I was reached at.  I responded with what is the name of your company.  She hung up on me.

i just got a call from 877-243-5126 the lady told me if i didnt pay this debt(from 2000) the irs would be contacted and this credit card debt would be reported as income that i didnt report. so i paid the debt.... how can they go back 9 years ago?

I just got a call this morning, they left a message and said they needed me to call back or my represent agent so that they car proceed with a certain file number.

Call from Mr. Adair form 1-877-243-5126, requested monies for a charged-off acct.  I believe, it was in year 2002.  I checked my credit report and this creditor is no longer listed.  However, I noticed an inquiry from CRA. What should I do?

Got a call from a lady named Rachel who left a message to call 877-217-2610 but the number on my caller Id was 214-295-6914.  They said they were from C&R Accociates and had recieved a file with my name as ss number and I should call them asap as it is a legal matter.  When I did they tried to tell me I owed them money for a debt that was LOOOONG taken care of and threatend to sue me and garnish my wadges.  No personal info was given and suspecting something I hung up.

The phone was sitting right next to me, didn't ring, just got a vmail.  The msg was similar to previous posts, Lynn from CRA, there is an error they need to clarify, call back TODAY. it was 1030PM!! so suspicious. thats why i googled it.  I am definitely not calling back. Thanks to you all taking your time to inform future victims !!

What do we do to help shut them down.  I only received a call, and returned it.  I suspect they are bad characters.

received call today 9/24/09. Came in as private number blocked on my cell. The message was a MS. Sawyer looking for my son. She said she had this number for a contact for him. (if they can find my number they have his). Said for him to call her at her direct line. 877-243-5126. So I blocked my ID and call the number back a man answered CRA. I hung up and called my son and told him to be careful.

A female with the name Ashley McCraw with office of CRA left a message, to me with my fullname saying that they need to speak with me or whoever currently represents me, said the number 877-243-5126,and that it is imperative that they get in contact with me immediatly, she said they have a serious matter to share with me about something I may not be aware of. And to call back immediately.
She had a sweet voice, slight southern accent, but the tone was sooo serious,and slow and deliberate, I guess to scare you into calling back. Like it was a matter of life and death.
I am very glad I looked up the number.

9-23-09 Person named Talia left a msg on my cell phone saying i needed to get a hold of her by 6pm. She said it did not look good for me and it was important I call her and gave me a case number. When I called a guy answered and gave me a name of someone else and would not say what it was for he got very rude and hung up on me. I called back and a different guy answered would not clarify really what it was about and said they must have got the number mixed up. Thank goodnes I found these postings on line to help validate something was not right.

A Casey called looking for a "Colesta" or some one representing her.  Call back immediately,  it is very important.  Called back to inform them of wrong number and that there was no one here nor that we knew any one  by that name.  Received a rude comment implying that I was not cooperative and then the call was terminated.

Yes. I received a phone call from some guy- Austin Kitchen?!? Said that he was calling regarding some file that he received on his desk this morning and the it is really important for me or my reresentation to call him immediately. I recently took a credit freeze off of my account and now I am staring to get these types of calls regulary. I don't have the best of credit but my debt is also pretty old almost 5 years old. I have a problem dealing with debtors when they can't send me somehting in writing and this man did not even leave where he was calling from. I am tired of these people always calling and threatening people it's gets really annoying and some of them are so good that it's down right scary.

This company has been known to contact and harass people they believe may know the person they are trying to reach including distant relatives, ex-spouses and possible former co-workers.

Call my mother asking for me and told her that they were helping me fill out some very importanta papers. My mother ask them their name and they would give it to her so she went off. The said that she just messed up a very serious matter for me and they would let me know how rude she was. The company also uses another number which is listed as in active number if you call it back. The try to bluff you into paying money to them. Dont do it

I got a voicemail from "Alexis" at CRA.  The number for the incoming call was 702-966-2899.  She spoke REALLY fast with a bit of a hick accent and requested I call back at 877-243-5126.  I sensed something fishy and googled the numbers and company.  I recognized the 505 number someone else listed.  I got a voicemail from that number last week regarding my fiance.  We both have excellent credit so this company is obviously bogus.  Be careful folks, I had my identity stolen about a year and a half ago.  Bank of America was actually wonderful about everything.  It was a real pain but they discovered it and got to the bottom of it.  Turns out a former employee of an online company stole my information and used it.  Luckily the idiot used my debit card number to pay his cell phone bill.

Called looking for someone I told them they do not reside here. They then ask if I know them I told them no. Got irritated with me when I told them to stop calling and not to be leaving me messages. received a very upsetting phone call from my mom today she is 78 saying she got a phone call from a Mr.Faircloth yea quite a name.  Any way all they did was upset my mother saying that I won't return their calls so my mom gave them my number then called me.  I call them up and they threaten me with a 1099 at tax time.  So I told her what I told the last bozo that I never had a loan with Beneficial and never would and this has been going on since 1988 yes 1988.  NOt to call me or my mother ever again.  The problem is they don't call me they just harrass my mom.  What can I do to stop them

Got a message giving a case file number and a name. I called back and asked for information on "CRA" and an exasperated woman named Michelle said, "can we just remove your number so this doesn't have to be some 20-minute conversation?" I said yes, please. And she hung up on me.

Someone calls my Stepdad and leaves a message saying that he heard that he can get a message to me and that there is somthing going on behind my back. My mother calls the number and some guy answers saying that he doesn't know what is going on but his wife does. And that it is important that I cann this number. I am glad I found this site before I decided to call.

Thanks guys!  Thought the message sounded not right and decieded to google it and I found ya'alls comments.   The number that showed up on my caller ID was 214-295-6914 but message said to call 877-243-5126 and id'd themselves as CRA but cannot remember the females name.

No - but they are not much better - they are a bottomfeeder junk debt buyer.  They buy worthless legally uncollectable debt for pennies and then try to SCARE consumers to pay them dollars.  MONEY YOU DO NOT OWE!  

They use illegal collection tactics like threats of arrest and lawsuits if you do not send them money immediately.  

Deny your rights to dipute the debt and harrass family and friends as well.

YOU MUST REPORT THEM TO THE VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL - HELP THE AG CLOSE THEM DOWN.  RECORD CALLS GATHER EVIDENCE AGAINST THEM

1-866-857-3916 is one of those irritating numbers that show up on your caller ID that can never seem to be identified.   When you return the call, you get the ominous "Can I help you?" or "Case number please."  They refuse to identify who they are when questioned, will not state they are debt collectors, and by tone imply you have committed some illegal act and are in great trouble or they would not have called you.  It is a violation of FDCPA.  It took quite a bit of research and cunning to discover whom the voices were behind the lawbreaking 866 number were...but it's coming together now and they are without excuse.

Give us your stories on CRA and let's put together some useful information to bring these folks down.  Record their calls where legal and save the tapes for future use.  We'll post 'em here if you have something of interest.

In the meantime, hold them to the law; make them put everything in writing, validate the debt.  Use the cease-communication letter.  Violations of the law should be pointed out to the Virginia Attorney General.

CAUTION: I recommend you NEVER disclose your bank account or credit card information to a debt collector, as you risk them emptying your account, or maxing out your credit card. If you feel they are reporting on your credit bureau files in error or need assistance in dealing with them, email  the details w/your location.  Assistance and referral to a consumer legal specialist may be available.

Returned a call at this number about them wanting to find a relative. When
I asked who they were they were extremely rude and wouldn't answer my
question. They were angry that I wouldn't just give them info on my relative. Well that just pissed me off and I hung up. Don't let them

Received a voice mail from an individual identified as "John Shelton"; he stated that he needed to speak with "name withheld" about some papers he had received in his office today from "county and state withheld" and needed "name withheld" or whomever was representing "him/her" and to call him at 877-243-5126 or at his direct line 843-278-0375.

I received a call from "Natalie" today about the same things that you guys are saying, but when she called it went to voice mail and I didn't check it until after their offices were closed.  They message said the same thing that a suit was being filed and it was very important that I called back because it was serious and that my name was involved but she did not give details as to what it pertained to, so I got really scared and called back but when I called the office was closed.  So I left a message informing them to call me back.  After that I decided to type the number in online and it bought me to this website, and now I know that my suspesions were right.  Something is not right about them and I'm glad that I missed her call. I know that I didn't do anything wrong.
