Alan, so, you let your friend sit in jail. You should have figured out who it was that was trying to call you from the jail and help him. Shame on you.

At 12:22 AM I received a robotic call from 877-253-8920 stating it was a collect call from the Newport Beach Police Department and to accept the call I need to provide my credit card number.
What police department calls collect? Beware of this latest scam. The number has been reported to the Newport Police Department who I am sure are happy that people are using their prestigious department for a new credit card scam.

I recieved a collect call from this number saying that the call was 1.99/min and that a TEMPORARY hold would be placed on my credit card in the amount of 30+ dollars. Well that happened twice and now my card has ACTUALLY BEEN CHARGED for what was said to be a TEMPORARY hold. There is something fraud going on with this and im very upset about and will stop at nothing to have those charges removed. It was also a county jail collect call and I dont think some of the inmates know about this scam when they call their loved ones for help.
