I received the Downey email as well, exactly as shown in the last post. A call to the number during business hours resulted in a fast busy signal. Repeated attempts got same result. Until recently I did have a Downey account, so the message seemed credible.
So, why would someone go to this trouble? It's not phishing - no request for private info. The desired response is obviously to generate calls to the number provided, and visits to branches of the bank. I suppose it's someone with a grudge of some sort against the bank - maybe a disgruntled employee?
