This is a total SCAM!!!!! Their business is out of business and they are under investigation. They said I wrote bad checks to a payday loan place, little did they know my best friend is the manager at the business they claimed I defrauded. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!!!

They say that Advance America has me on camera writing a check on a closed account. I did not do this. The first time he called he said that they would settle for $270, but have me for $779. He now says I have to pay $459 and will callme back in 24 hours to avoid going to court.

You might also want to look into a call blocker device or phone as well.

We got a call from them today saying that we "owed money" and was turned over to a collections for visiting a "cash advance" and "we have you on camera" - which of course we never have visited and cash advance place-ever!. They got rude with us when we questioned who they were. We ended up hanging up!  

Received a call from 213-261-0299 and returned the call.  The guy I spoke to stated that the firms name was O'Brien, Wexler and Associates, and that I was to be sued for a payday loan from Vince Enterprises or BMG.  He gave me the date of the loan as 12/3/2008, well outside of the SOL in California of 4 years.  Also I have never had a loan from this company and my bank records prove this never took place.  When I informed him of this he stated that I will have to prove it to the judge and that the SOL was ten years.  All a lie.  He would not give me their address and stated that they would not mail me anything, that I would get all the information I needed from the court.  He stated that they were not a collection agency, lie, and that they were a law firm.  I asked where the case was to be filed and he stated where ever you live.  All he wanted to do was get off the phone after he realized I was not giving him a dime.  These guys are junk debt buyers who prey on the uninformed and try to scare people.  They have an address in Lockport NY but it is a PO Box, if I could find a real address I would think about surfing them for violating the FDCPA.  It appears as that they have gone by many different names over the years and that they keep themselves we'll hidden.  Also they have been sued a few time under the FDCPA act.  

Stop calling my home and cell phone. Calling 25 times a day and on Sundays is harssment and it's against the law.

Received a phone call from Obrien & wexler claiming to be lawyers n that I owed a ridiculous bill. I just hung up bc i felt something was totally wrong. They threatened me n claimed I will have to go to court.

This is a scam.  These guys are located in Lockport NY.  16 N Transit Street.  Even thought the business is listed as CLOSED ,  they answer the phone. Michael Lewis. or Ed Long.  
If you turn the tables they get real upset and will end up hanging up on you!  .  They will get there day for scamming innocent people.
I contacted the local police dept there and what WE have to do to stop this is file a report with our local agency who will  contact the Lockport Police Dept  and get these guys with at least  harassment charges; hopefully others.  If enough of us do this maybe we can stop them.  Help me out on this.

Well I got a call today from 877-3344-5288 saying I was going to be arrested for financial fraud, malicious fraud regarding a payday loan I took in 2008! I have since filed bankruptcy and YES this was included AND DISCHARGED on my bankruptcy!! They told me it was REVERSED out of my bankruptcy because of the FRAUD I am GUILTY of. I told them I have not been notified by any court or MY lawyer that this was not discharged. I asked them to send me a copy of the bill on what they are collecting in the mail. Hmmmm the phone went dead. I do think he hung up on me. THEN I called my lawyer who handled my bankruptcy. HE told me that the debt in question for the pay day loan WAS DISCHARGED in my bankruptcy and that they are just trying to scam me out of money....He told me to let him know if they persist! I then called back the jerk who hung up on me. He said Miss I am sorry we got disconnected. DISCONNECTED MY AZZZ he hung up when I ask for proof of the debt. OK so I told him that my lawyer JUST checked 5 mins ago and as of 5 mins ago, this debt was discharged under my bankruptcy. That there is NO Fraud of any kind on my part. I then told them that my lawyer would be happy to file a case against them. He stumbled with his words and said well let me look into this and if need be I will call you back. If you don't hear back from me just disregard this call!!! DISREGARD my AZZ! THEY started this, and I will make sure I end it with my lawyer! I paid big bucks to get a lawyer and that is what I paid him for. OH this firm Obrien Wexler Assoc, is NOT a  law firm as they state, but a collection agency! F rating with the BBB according to my lawyer. Many cases NOT resolved with the BBB on this company. EVEN IF YOU MIGHT owe a bill, make sure you make them PROVE IT before you give them any money $$.. I was stupid and verified the info they had on me. The only info they had wrong was they said I lived in Calif, which is really stupid when I filed the bankruptcy in Nevada.  AND that they called the phone number and it is a Nevada phone number ....like dahhh people......I don't think I will be hearing any more from these people!! MAKE SURE YOU OWE THE COMPANY THEY ARE REPRESENTING BEFORE YOU GIVE THEM A DIME.....By reading all the comments here, and doing my own research and talking to my lawyer today, I do think it is time for a class action suit against this company.  I'm in, anyone else?

Well I too filed bankruptcy on a debt and got a call from 877-334-5288.  when I googled the # it DID come up with Obrien, wexler assoc. I DID include this debt in my bankruptcy but THESE people told me that it has been pulled OUT of my bankruptcy because I am committing criminal FRAUD! I called MY lawyer for the bankruptcy and he said they are a SCAM and tell them to send me something in the mail regarding the debt. So I called these people back and told them WHAT my lawyer said, (of course they said MY lawyer probably filed this debt WRONG and he is Frauding ME) IT IS in my bankruptcy I told them, I told them the date the debt was discharged. HE then told me that he will look into it, and if I don't hear back from them to just disregard! I SAID NO you will call me either way when you find this has been discharged under my bankruptcy. I TOLD them I wanted to hear this from THEM! Ya think I will ever hear from them again? Na I don't think so either. BEFORE PAYING THESE PEOPLE MAKE SURE YOU OWE THE DEBT

they keep calling saying they are going to take me to jail. i called my district attorney and and they toold me that they are just fishing 4 info. and that to just not  answer the phone and to give them the number so the can look in to it. its a scam!!! people one other number to look out 4 is 651-353-4015.877-334-5288. they will tell u that u did something in 2008 they will have a little info on u like a old bank info or a old house address and some times ur last 4 ss number DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MORE INFO!! just report the number and keep a eye on ur money.

My last conversation with the bone heads was two hr after my previous post above. At which time I first told them the call was being recorded and then was hung up on. Filed a complaint with the bbb and still no response, no more calls, no letter, no verifications. They better hurry because the SOL is up this month on what they're claiming! LOL! Boneheads don't know who they're dealing with, my next complaint will be with the utah ag and NY ag offices along with the licensing committee in Utah that regulates collectors and takes action against the illegal ones.

Did you have a summons and a judgment issued against you with a case #?  If not, they cannot do that.

If you got somebody else's info, you can contact that person and they can sue the company that sent you the info that does not belong to you for privacy violations.

This guy was far from civil. He started a war and would love to start a class action law suit against this scum.

THEY ARE BOTTOM FEEDERS TRYING TO SCAM UP A COUPLE OF BUCKS! If you've ever even applied  for a pay day loan they may have your info.  I applied for a pay day loan back in '08 but then declined the loan...NEVER received the money.  I even called the actual loan company who told me that I was not in their system and therefore could not have received a loan.  However, these O'Brien ppl continue to call my grandmothers house, a disabled senior citizen, and leave threatening messages.  The things they say have to be illegal.  One guy was so disrespectful, yelling in my ear and making empty threats.  I repeatedly asked for documentation, which pissed him off even more.  Every time they call they say the Sheriffs will be at my grandmothers door within 48 hours.  I am recording their calls moving forward because I would love to take legal action against theses a--holes!

Got another call from this firm. This time it was a man named Russell Webb.  Last time is was a woman.  He had my last 4 of my SS and my email.  I told her last month I paid it and I would have to find it because it was years ago.  My husband looked up the number and saw it was a scam.  Several pages about this O'Brien, Wexler & Assoc.  Now he gave me a case nimber for a civil lawsuit. He said he would email me the paperwork, which I thought odd.  He only said the court I lived in, not the address itself. I have never gotten any letters since I paid off the last loan. The loan company I have never heard of.  This is getting on my nerves.  Why wait a month to get back to me about this?  Hope I can find my papers.  Anyone else with this person and firm?

I have a call from an Evelyn and David Fulton saying they are with O'Brian and Wexler and that I have an outstanding payday loan from 4 years ago.

Received a call at my mothers, the message stated it was for me and they needed to "test my knowledge" I returned the call to have them try and bully me with threats of law suites and criminal prosecution for financial fraud. I further pressed the matter by asking for his name and company name, which he refused to give. Further would not clearly state who the debtor was originally. And then he asked if I wanted the chance to go to the court house and file against myself or if they should further the matter. I told them to pursue it through my legal counsel, at that point he said he would not deal with my attorney, because they already contacted me. I told them I look forward to wasting their money in court and the counter suite.

Just got a call from the same people we are talking about only it was a answer machine telling me to call 877-334-5288.  The thing that sucks they called me to a work issued cell phone!  HOw the hell did they get that number?!  Anyways I call the number and some rude girl answers and starts telling me that i had a check bounce from a payday loan in 2008.  Which by the way i have noticed the year 2008 brought up in this thread several times.  This is all a scam.  They threaten you with lawsuits and tell you they will see you in court.  They are full of crap!

Got a call today also from a "local phone number".  Did a reverse phone search and couldn't come up with legitimate info so I called the number back.  Whomever answered identified the company as a law firm.  The VM I received said I was a person of interest and if I didn't return their call legal decisions would be made without my consent.  John Thomas started rattling off that I was being sued for fraud, bad check writing and something else on some payday loan from 2007.  He said that he was sending my information to the local court and I would be sued with a civil lawsuit.  Last time I checked fraud would be a criminal lawsuit.  I asked 4 different times for him to send me paperwork and he said that they didn't have to because I had already been contacted.  

I said well I'm not giving you money for something that I don't know is valid.  He was very rude and talked over me most of the conversation.  He said he had my SS and my address.  I asked what address he had and I told him I hadn't lived there in 18 months.  He responded with "It's not my job to babysit you and update your info."  So send me some damn paperwork then, jack***!!  If it's a valid debt and you have my SSN then don't you think it would have been reported to the credit bureaus by now.

THIS PLACE IS NOT LEGITIMATE AND THEY AREN'T A LAW FIRM!!  IF THEY CAN'T PROVIDE LEGITIMATE PAPERWORK PROVING YOU OWE THEM MONEY THEN DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING!!!  EVEN IF THE DEBT IS LEGIT THEY STILL HAVE TO PROVIDE YOU DOCUMENTATION THAT IT IS.  BUNCH OF SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
