You know for a fact that the "very polite and very helpful" man was fully FDCPA-compliant? The collector represents a creditor directly and not a junk debt buyer? The amount and account number and other details are all correct? You got a dunning letter as required by the FDCPA? You got the "good cop" this time so all is well?

Medical billing is perhaps the most dysfunctional area of consumer credit going, mortgage debt being a close contender. Abuses from medical collectors are rampant, and MBROI has not appeared to make an exception. Nothing you saw on The ROI Companies website about its size and locations means that you're being treated fairly as federal law demands. "It's time to pay the piper" only if the piper's hit man can deliver you proof on paper and do his job without denying your rights.

Don't you think three bites at the apple already form a pattern worthy of complaint? The CFPB, FTC, and attorneys general would be interested parties. A single complaint is not going to spur action unless it concerns unusually gross abuse of your rights, so there is no reason to wait.

This game of changing the hunted person's name each call is one I typically read about when dirty debt collectors call workplaces, where the ruse is somewhat more plausible. It's never been clear why this tactic is used except as a cheap way to get around the FDCPA prohibition on multiple skip trace calls to a single place. It's rather foolish on its face to keep pelting you with new names like they're trying to crack a code. Eventually they'll hit a name of someone who might owe, or you'll break down and pay to stop the calls, if I can extrapolate the illogic of the scheme.

To halt the misfired skip trace calls, laying a paper trail is far more effective than verbal denials. My advice for "not me" cases is found here:

Received 3 calls from this number over a months time on my answering machine. Every call was for another person I don't even know. Returned all 3 calls and was told each time my number would be removed. After 3rd call I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told she was on another line. I said I would hold until she was free and reply was "I can't do that". I said I better get a call from a supervisor or I would file a harassment complaint with the authorities. To my surprise I did receive a phone call from a supervisor and was promised I would not receive any more calls from them. We'll see. The supervisors phone number came up on my caller ID and I now know their phone number and where they are located and if I do receive another call I will report them to the authorities.

My husband received a couple of calls from this company.  I had blood work done on my son that the insurance companied denied payment on.  It is a large sum of money that we just can't pay.  I called today and spoke with Anthony.  I veried my address and my sons dob.  He was very polite and very helpful.  My debt is with Children's Hospitial.  ROI is a healthcare finacial management service company with offices in four locations.  Most of the time I do not call back but it's time to pay the piper.  I am trying to get a settlement amount and go from there.

good luck to everyone

Just got the call & patched it through to voicemail.  "Spencer" from the alleged debt collection agency MBLI left a very long "private" message where he used my full name 4 times.  He instructed me to call back at the 877-435-4009 number ext 5238 to discuss "a private business matter." Jeez guy make up your mind, are you a debt collector or a hedge fund manager?  I immediately googled the phone number & found this thread.  Looks like it is time to re-up my digits on the National Do Not Call Registry.

Have been getting calls from this number, today I was able to answer it.  They asked for my sister and said our last name way in a way no other has...Obviously, not able to read too well, as our name isn't that hard to pronounce.  When I said no, he said do you know how I can reach her.  I kept asking, who he was and what was it in regards to, he kept averting the question. When he finally said the name of the CO, I asked him to repeat the name a few times. Finally, I told him to take the gum out if his mouth and speak clearly....(school teacher at heart). All he would say was it was confidential business...My response was good luck, I haven't spoken to her in years, so it is doubtful she listed my number anywhere. Told  him do a better google search, it isn't that hard to do...go the extra mile, son! Tried to get the supervisor, but a long delay and a disconnect...actually heard the disconnect...
My guess is all the hospitals are selling off their unpaid receivables because of the 2014 Health Care Laws...Expect more of these calls from anyone that may have listed you as an 'in case of emergency' on any hospital forms....

A guy calls me asking to speak with my husband about a "confidential business transaction" involving my daughter. Refuses to identify himself. Had a creepy/sketchy vibe. I told him never to call again. If it is a collection agency, they have made a mistake.

It's definitely a collection agency, or someone trying to sound suspiciously like one.  Asked the company name, and they just say "MBLI".  Asked what that stands for, they say it doesn't stand for anything, which sounds even more suspicious.  Have tried to find them on the Web, but without any luck.  Best thing to do is put their number on your cell phone's reject list.

This company has been harassing my mother with letters and phone calls even though the bill was for me and we do not live together. The bill is for a surgery I had in 2011 and I was under my fathers insurance at the time. The guy on the phone was extremely rude and condescending. I asked to speak with someone above him and he said he would get his supervisor. He put me on hold for about 5 minutes only to come back and say that all supervisor were "busy." I googled the number and found this site along with others filled with complaints. I called the hospital that had sent me to collections and asked them if they had any idea what kind of collection agencies they are sending debts to and told them about what I had found on the internet about this company. They did not seem to care. I would love to put this agency out of business!

I am getting calls from this # (MBRO)  and I heard they dont report to credit bureaus .
I kind of was out of country for 2 years and some medical bills I didnt get to pay (as you know the insurance
pays late and by the time the amout i owe is decided , I left the country and made sure no bills are pending.

I called Hospital guys and they said there are some pending bills and are with collection and I asked if
they report to credit bureaus , and I got reply that hospital doesnt tell them to report to credit bureaus
but looks like collection agency might report it.

I am in the process of buying home and I dont see the MBRO yet ,(may be they didnt report as it looks like
hospital guys turned to collection a year back)
So is it possible that they might report to credit bureaus in future.

you are saying you see 3-bills from credit reports , so how are you going to fix it and how bad it effects in getting the rate to buy mortgage ?

Their calling about someone that has been dead for years, not to mention how did they get my number when this cell phone is not in my name. So they would not have known I was connected to the dead person by my phn info. Strange, I don't even know how or why they are calling. Not to mention they called twice now, and I never gave them any info besides the person their calling about is DEAD. I THOUGHT ALL DEBT WAS CLEARED WHEN YOU DIED.

Guy called me from this same number. Said he had to verify my mailing address for a personal matter. I told him I needed him to verify who he was and why he was calling. All he said was, he could mail me a letter like they did before but there was no forwarding address on file. I have not moved, so I told him to go ahead and mail a letter to the address on file and he hung up.

Asked for my father who died 7 years ago and never lived with me so I said "sorry, he's been dead for 7 years."  She said, well then this bill must be paid by his next of kin.  Sorry, I said but next of kin are neither legally nor morally obligated to pay off the deceased's bills.  I told her the hospital should have filed against his estate and if she wanted any money she should do the same.  I wished her luck because there was no estate.  He died penniless, not even a life insurance policy.  Besides, that was 7 years ago.  What a dweeb!

I got a message this morning from this company...asking for me with my MAIDEN name.  My current Health Insurance is in my married name and the ONLY outstanding bill in my maiden name I have been paying for 2 years.

In early 2000's I had my identity stolen.

I DID GET A SUPERVISOR'S NAME AND EXTENSION:  Hope this helps someone.

I, like an above poster, had bills from South County Hospital in RI.  I'd advise CALLING THE HOSPITAL and speaking with Billing (they're actually very nice) and finding out where your bills are.

Mine were with this company...but the phone number and set up was NOT like this.  Almost like this is a copycat company.

(SC Hospital Main Line: 401-782-8000 - just ask for billing)

I recently got a copy of my credit report and to my surprise there were 3 accounts for medical bills just filed last month. I am a hard working single mother and work very hard to pay my bills. I NEVER RECEIVED A BILL FOR ANY OF THESE ACCOUNTS. I immediately called the bill collectors and explained my situation because I am buying a new home, and they accepted my payment AND REMOVED FROM MY CREDIT REPORT raising my score. I called this place which had a $100 collection from Southwest, that I NEVER received a bill from and they CLAIM they can not remove it off my report. THIS PLACE IS ALL ABOUT MONEY AND NOTHING FOR UNDERSTANDING PEOPLES SITUATION. So now I have this on my credit where as if I received a bill for it right away, it wouldn't even be in their hands

It was not shady. It's called you gave false information. They are a debt collection agency that collects on medical bills from Hospitals. If you don't pay the hospital then they collect for them. My wife and I have also gotten calls from them. They are based out of Worcester Massachusetts.

Called me from 877-435-4009. Couldn't understand the name, though it sounded like "Stephanie," and my maiden name - but my first name isn't Stephanie. It seems like a scam - I have been called by a real debt collector before (that ended up not being my fault anyway), and this is not how they handle the cases.

msg from 877-435-4009, ?NBROI? (a collection agency), trying to reach (some name other than mine).  Msg the same as other people posted: "This message is for.....If you are not.......please do not listen to this call. By continuing to listen to this call you acknowledge that you are.....This call is to collect a debt. Please call 1-877-435-4009.?

I spoke with them tonight, also got automated msg asking for my home phone number - I did not put in my number, but instead pressed zero & an operator picked up.  I explained they were leaving messages for someone else other than myself and requested that they please remove my number from their system.  Surprisingly he was pleasant and agreed to do so, after verifying my number (he must?ve gotten from caller ID).
