So, I emailed the MSP site and apparently it IS a legitimate recording. As someone else points out above, the government DID outsource MSP to HP. Lovely use of our tax dollars and great way to support employment. Anyhow, they want me to call their office to see "why you are/the reason you received this message or if it was intended for you." I wish they'd post a list on their webpage of the 800#s that they use so we'd know for sure.

I am so suspicious of this. I have contacted the real MSP services and will report back with what they tell me. This number isn't listed anywhere on the site. I would be very wary of calling this number back. Instead, I would go to the real BC gov webpage (not sure I can post links, so I won't try, but google it) and call the hotline number listed there. That number is NOT this number. Then you can ask someone for real about it.

They probably get our numbers from unsecured address books somewhere or from unshredded invoices. Or luck. It would be pretty straightforward to get a computer to randomly dial BC numbers and leave this message, as it is a safe bet that most people in BC have MSP.  Straightforward to scam.  

We received two calls from 877 455-4966, both on my husband's new cell phone number, which is less than three weeks old.  We called the number and confirmed it was MSP, they were looking for the former cell phone owner, Scott, regarding outstanding MSP amounts.  It is legit.

I too am getting a number of calls from this number. If it is MSP, you'd expect some indication of who they were at the beginning of the message. Not just a number telling us to call. Also MSP is not in my name and I have moved and changed my cell number... Why am I getting called? If I owe, I'll let my tax refund cover it.

Well it seems that they love to harass folks!!!  I called the Medical Services Plan at 604-683-7150 LAST WEEK to find out if there were any problems and they said that "they would send out a government form", but now THIS WEEK they are back to whining AGAIN and phoning me now from their 1-877-455-4966 number. They suspect I should be paying for my Medical Services Plan, but I have not even made enough money for that but they are too daft to look that up for themselves and need for me to give them my "permission" to look up how much money I made for the last two years. How imbasilic for they are the government and they could easily look it up for themselves if they wanted to! I'm ill and I'd like to sue for all this harassment I'm getting!

Getting calls at least twice a week from this number.  My phone displays it as coming from the United States, so I never answer.  They leave a voice message but they don't wait until my message is finished so I miss the first half of their message.

This one is legitimate, it's part of the BC Revenue Services group handling MSP payments. It's their internal collections department, not an external collection agent, as verified by talking to someone at their regular number.

I called this number and without revealing my account number or any confidential information, they were able to provide me with billing history and tell me what they were calling about. They were also just as happy for me to make a payment via the BC gov'ts website "by following instructions on last month's bill", scammers would insist on taking care of it over the phone right that moment (so that the scammer gets my credit card information), so if it is a scammer, they're a pretty dumb one :)

Hello, I have gone back and investigated this number through Revenue Canada in case of fraud, and this number is sourced to Revenue Services of BC - which is Provincial, not Federal- and has to do with MSP. Hope that clears things up for people!

I live in BC.   Caller ID shows "Unknown name & number".   The pre-recorded message begins before my answering machine starts recording, but they leave this number asking to call back regarding my "Medical Services Plan".   As the above comments say, if MSP wants you, they'll send you a letter.

DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER OR GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.  THIS IS A SCAM.

Got a message this morning stating call from "Revenue Service of BC, requesting call back 1-877-455-4966" but did not provide any information for what it was for.  Any recommendation for what I should do?

I got a call from this number today but hung up and sea he'd the internet for scams.

1 877 455 4966 ... ???  BC MSP Phone #'s are 604 683 7151 - Lower Mainland and 1 800 663 7100 elsewhere in B.C.
Revenue Services of B.C. phone #'s are 1 877 405 4909 ref. payments, refunds, collection of overdue premiums etc.etc..
Fax number - 250 405 4412. This is clearly stated on the back of your MSP Invoice.

The number 1 877 455 4966 should raise red flags. MSP normally send a letter if there are questions regarding your account.
I would ignore any phone calls coming from 1 877 455 4966 .... it's common sense !!

I am 18 and these people have been calling me 4 times a day for the last 5 months at least. I cannot afford a phone bill of this size, so I blocked the number. Somehow, they are still able to leave me voicemails and constantly spam me with the cutoff message that so many people here have been recieving.

Just because someone leaves behind a 800 number and tells you it is a government agency doesn't make it so.  If in fact this number is legitimate and they are debt collecting then why would they not ask for the person/s they are looking for by name?  Don't be scammed by this and provide someone you don't know with any personal information over the phone.  If you owe money to MSP they will send you a bill.  

These retards are pretty persistent. They literally called me 3 times in a row, 4 minutes apart. The thing is I have a call blocker device, which I blacklisted Unknown/800/866/877 numbers.

Yes it really is Revenue Services of BC, and they could be calling you for a number of different services NOT just MSP (e.g. Ministry of Housing and Social Development, BC Ambulance Service, etc.). If you didn't receive a letter, chances are it's regarding somebody else who once had your same number or address. Just call them back and they'll detach the number from that person's account for you.

Can``t a spammer display a number if you have call display,  that belongs to MSA even though they are not them.  Spoofing I think they call it.

Mystery solved: an MSP agent explained today that they've been recording phone numbers for thirty five years. Phone numbers are recycled over time. It's a genuine MSP number. I called MSP today and told them to take me off their auto dialler list because the bill has never been late-paid  "and by the way - how did you have my new cell phone number"?  The agent looked up my cell number in his records and said it's not my name, in fact it was a woman's name. You might have to wait awhile for the system to clear after they sort it out so just ignore the robo calls.  MSP B.C. is Vancouver: 604 683-7151 Other : Toll-free: 1 800 663-7100.

I received a call tonight at approximately 8:15pm said it was revenue services of BC and an invoice was sent and to call...I don't owe revenue services any monies. I googled the # and found myself here.  A scam!

- Never give your personal information over the phone.  
- Do not call back.  
- MSP does not contact via telephone.
- All government agencies correspond via postal mail, not by phone or e-mail.
- If it is suspicious, 99% of the time your gut instinct is correct.
- Don't be fooled and don't be another victim.

Automated call from Revenue Services of BC. For me I called back at 1 866 361-5050 and asked for an agent. She asked for which number the system called, and upon giving her only this information, she asked whether someone with a name we don't known lived here. They obviously had an old number for someone (more than 4 years old, since that's how old this number is), and were calling all current/past numbers to get a hold of him. I can't confirm that 1 877 455 4966 is legit, so just call the above 1 866 number or go to this website just in case:
