Watch out -- I have had fraudulent charges before on a Chase card, and they left a message
for me. These scammers can cook anything to look real.

Fax Machine
i received the same phone call a few days back and a lady wanted to verify the information i provided through the online application system. anyway, i gave her all the information including the SSN and address. then she told me that i will be receiving a letter asking for some documents. i got this letter yesterday asking me to call 800-213-9435. the man asked me to send a copy of photo ID and a copy of utility bill for verifying my current address through either fax or postal service to this Appeal Box 15077 Wilmington DE 19886.  iprinted out the copies and then decided to verify the address and ended up on this page. so i called chase credit card department at 800-432-3117 and requested them to verify that the letter originated from their office. i gave her the PO box no. and asked her to check if that is Chase's Appeal Box. she confirmed that this PO box belongs to them and that is called the appeal box. so, i am sure that this letter is legitimate and i am going to send the documents tomorrow.

you may feel like its scam because you did not apply for a card. this system is in fact to protect you from scam. someone else may have got hold of your information and is trying to get a credit card in your name. that is why this manual verification is important. if u did not apply for a card, then you are not going to send the documents and the person who is impersonating you will not get the card.

request to others - for god's sake do not misguide people without verifying it yourself. u r doing more harm than good by posting invalid and unverified information here. if u suspect it is a scam, just look up chase's credit card department's number and call them.

Hey guys why are you saying this number is not legitimate, its legitimate number. I got the same type of letter you guys mention above. Then I called to this number and talk with a sweet laby, I request her to veryfy my identity by phone because I am feeling comfortable to send these documents by mail. After this she hang on me for 1 minutes and make some questions. After answering few questions, she again hang on me and then come back with approvable decision.

So, good luck guys for your new credit card.

No LEGITIMATE company will ask for your SS# to "Prove identity".  The card says "For SS and Tax purposes, not for Identification."  Do NOT send a copy of the card.  It's an open invitation to ID theft!

I also received a fishy call from "Chase Fraud Prevention". The number I got a call from, however was 1-847-488-6000 in Elgin, IL. I immediately thought it was fishy. They asked me to fax a copy of my social security card to them to verify my identity. A few minutes later, I called the card services number on the back of my card, to verify that they did need this information and in fact, they did. The woman I spoke to with card services gave me the very same fax number I was to send a copy of my social security number to as the original call. I think it's perfectly okay to act cautiously in these matters. If in doubt, always call the actual bank.

Don't listen to anyone here find out for yourself. It is legit. I actually applied for a chase freedom card if you didn't I would still contact fraud department and tell them. I did applied through a third party so this is why i went the long way to verify.

I'm always skeptical of fraud so don't call the number or mail info.

1) Go to chase website find the card you wanted.
2) Somewhere you can find a number that allows you to call in person to apply (maybe a popup window)
3) They send you to an automated message and it will ask you to push 2 to speak to determine status of already applied application. Here it asks for social security number by pushing buttons on phone (its a valid chase number from their actual website not a third party but still I'm always little hesitant)
4) Tell the person you want to verify over phone and he will transfer you to fraud department.
5) First thing the person from fraud department asks is if its regarding to a letter and if so did i apply for it? They said this is why they have to verify my information in-case I didnt apply for it.
6) Asks for reference number on letter, asked for my birthdate and age.
7) Asked for a security question about some public information about me to verify my identity and than put on hold
8) Asked for a security question about my credit history to prove its me and than put on hold
9) After she finished application and said i was approved.

If skeptical go through chase's local banks. This way you will know for yourself its not a scam. Don't listen to others. Of course I'll update this only if it turns out I don't get the credit card in mail.

Fake call claiming to be from Chase bank - I verified with Chase that this is indeed a phishing fraud and has nothing to do with them.

Notice all the shill postings claiming that the call is real - a sure sign of a fraud.  There are numerous reports on 800notes of numbers claiming to be "fraud alerts" from a number of different financial institutions, all with large numbers of shill postings very similar to the ones here - likely part of a widespread fraud campaign:

Numerous other fake number all claiming to be from various banks - all with the same shill postings:

its seems like FRAUD to me!!! i called 1 888 220 6931 after receiving this letter from Chase stating that i apparently had another Chase Slate card open! Which i clearly dont. but i call the number to make sure. the call didnt mention anything about it being chase! and all it said it was going to be recorded and wouldnt u know it less than a minute i had someone on the phone. Asked for my account number i was calling about... and i was like i have a ref number> even then he proceed to ask for my address. and last for digit. (he sounded like a ghetto hispanic guy on the phone) but never once mention my name. and then said it was pending.

how was it pending if apparently im getting this letter stating that i have an active account open. Then he ask for my SS and im like no my acct should already be link to it. Cuz thats the only common dominator. and he then ask for my name to try to search it from there. and then the bozo doesnt even ask for my DOB but instead ask for my mother maiden name! and im like i dont know which one i put down! and that ill just check with the credit bureau to see if someone had open one. and he seem to make excuses like as if he could find it.

The letter looks fake too!! SHould of known!!! looks copied! is it always in black and white?!!!
and the envelope doesnt have there logo on it.

They are not protecting YOU, they are protecting the bank! Just remember that. If they would spend the money to secure their whole credit card system, then this wouldn't be a problem and your privacy would be BETTER protected beause all your private info wouldn't be in their database.

I had my purse stolen from my car a few weeks back with all my info in there including my ssn. I called lifelock and got a fraud alert placed on my ssn. Today I received a call from an Ameeka at chase bank rep # CRE18F, she stated that someone had applied for a credit card and they were calling me to verify if it was me. I advised her that it definitely was not me, and asked if they can forward a copy of the fraud report to our local police department. She stated that they needed me to verify my home address and they could send it there. When I told her I would not do that she sent me to a supervisor. This supervisor, Danielle rep# CRELEG, stated I can call her back at this 877-470-9042. I called the PD and they stated to call Chase at the # listed on the internet. When I did, they stated they had no application from my name. Yet the girl that had originally called me asked for me by name. I know it was my name they used. What I think this is, is that they are phishing for more of my information then they already have. It is absolutely not Chase bank, no matter what they say. If you see this number on anything, DO NOT TRUST IT!!!!

I don't know why you guys are saying this isn't the number. I applied for a credit card with Chase bank. I have called back several times for the application status. I was told that I had to respond to a letter I would be receiving. I got the letter and this number is the number listed to call for questions. It is a legitimate number for Chase.

they called me, when asked, they gave me this phone number and identified themselves as working with "CardMember Services". I hang up and called Chevy Chase - they were very clear that I should not be getting any calls about a credit card application but only a letter. I looked up CardMember Services phone # thru Chase and the two don't match. Not sure what to do next.

A sweet elderly sounding lady called me this morning saying she was calling from Chase, they are wanting to review my recent Amazon purchase and for identity purpose they needed my mother's maiden name. I refused to give it and she gave this 877-470-9042 to call. I instead called Chase direct they said it is a scam!

I called the 1-877-470-9042 number and they asked me some security questions such as past associated addresses, previous cities im associated with, home owner in which state.

no questions about ss  number or anything that would appear to be vital information that would result in fraud.

my opinion is to call the number and throw the letter away, sending ss numbers through the mail is a stupid proposition.
This is a legit number.

The number 1-877-470-9042 is legit.  I called Chase after applying for an Amazon.com card and receiving this same letter in the mail 5 days later.  I did not call this number first.  I went through their website to the credit card line.  The automated service told me my application was under review, and then I requested a live representative.  I was then refered to their lending branch and they confirmed a letter had been sent.  In fact, without me informing them what was on the letter and only giving the reference number they knew what was being requested.  They did not request my SSN however.  I then called the 1-877-470-9042 and got a real person immediately who identified as Chase.  They asked some security questions that did not involve me providing financial information.  I then asked where they got these questions, and they said it was from public records (all based on relatives and people with similar last names).  I don't know how secure using that public record data is, however, when I called Chase back and requested the status of the application again I had been approved for a line of credit.  This would cause me to believe this number is legit.  I think it is even a good security feature considering how many people who didn't apply are getting calls to inform them of an application.  It's a good heads up, though a bit strange at the outset.

I recently applied for a Chase credit card and a few days later I received a letter from Chase requesting proof of my current address. The letter requested that I mail a utility bill, government issued id or automobile registration to Chase Bank USA, N.A PO Box 15077 Wilmington, DE 19886-5077. I immediately thought this was a unusual request and called the number listed on the letter, 1-877-470-9042. I asked the associate why this information was being requested and also asked if I could fax the information instead of mailing. She gave me a 888-643-9628 fax number. I then went to Chase's website and contacted the credit card services number listed, Credit Card Customers (Personal)
1-800-432-3117. I explained the situation and the representative told me; Chase will request this information if your application does not get approved immediately. He asked me to give him the address of where the letter came from. When he typed the information in his system he had NO records of "Chase Bank USA, N.A PO Box 15077 Wilmington, DE 19886-5077". He gave me another address to send the letter to, I then asked him if I could fax the information and he gave me the same fax number 888-643-9628. With that said, I definitely would not feel comfortable mailing these documents to: Chase Bank USA, N.A PO Box 15077 Wilmington, DE 19886-5077 however, the fax number provided is indeed a ligament Chase Card Services Number.

REcvd letter from Chase about application I recently entered as part of a LaQuinta Mote/promotion.  Letter carried address of:  Chase Bank U.S.A.; N.A.; PO Boc 15077; Wilmington De. 19886-5077.

They asked for (no person's name) a photocopy of social security car AND Proof of current physical addressd (e.g.utility bill, etc.).  The phone# listed was 1-877-470-9042 Mon-Fri between hours of 8am and 8pm, eastern standard time.Tried phoning several times and never connected with Chase Bank personnel.

Found an 800-432-3117 ph # on internet that someone else had contacted to get help on similar issues.  She worked on internet BUT gave me a 1-800-347-7887 # which netted a recording saying something about applications no longer being accepted.

Will not waste more time on this and consider all the Chase time I spent as totatlly wasted effort.

I received this the other day as well and had all the same concerns as all of you did.  I decided to contact the 800 number listed on website 1-800-436-7927 and spoke with a representative who stated this is valid and done by a third party.  Not satisfied with this answer, I called back the next day to get a different person and received the same answer.  Feeling more safe with the situation I called the 1-877-470-9042 and spoke with a representative and stated I was not conformable with sending that information through mail.  She gave me two options answer questions over the phone to confirm my information or secure fax.  I opted to answer the questions.  After I answered the questions she asked she stated that she will go ahead and process my application and that I was approved.  I thanked her and hung up then to be completely sure I went and checked my application status through the above 800 number and my status had been approved.

Though fishing (or phishy) this is not fraud if you do your due diligence.  HOWEVER that being said if you didn't fill out an application I would recommend contacting Chase directly and not this third party.

I applied for chase freedom master card before two month. I got a call from Chase bank and the lady told me I was prequalified for this card. After 10 days I got a letter from the case bank. It seems somewhat doubtful for me and confused is it from real chase bank?? This letter told me send the a photocopy of social security and proof of current physical address(utility bill, government issued id, automobile registration). It looked like fraud. I call the chase bank and they suggest me to call a number 18774709042. It was the same number which was in the letter. The chase bank representative told me it is not fraud. I called this number and they asked my information including social security. The lady give me a number to fax my social security and my current address. I faxed my social security and current address. After 12 days I got chase freedom master card. This is not fraud guys.

I just called 1 877 470 9042.

It seems to be a company hired by Chase and other banks to verify CC's.

The woman immediately asked for my "reference number" which was on the letter sent to me about 3 weeks after I applied online for a Chase Freedom Master Card. She then knew immediately who I was and all the information about my application. My "test" for her to tell if it was legit or not was for her to tell me the date I applied online. She passed and I went ahead and verified the information the letter requested in addition to income (mortgage company and pmnt amount).

She said my app was approved and my card would be arriving in 7-14 business days.

As far as I can tell, it's legit.

Received email from "Chase Fraud Alert" on 5/13/Thursday, concerning a credit application, with a request to call 877-470-9042.  Nothing to be alarmed about; Chase sent thousands of these emails out in error and said to ignore it.  The people at Chase were very polite & apologetic.  No personal information was requested when I talked to them (except for my name).

The letter from Chase is legitimate. I applied online for an Amazon.com Rewards Visa card from Chase. About a week letter, I received a letter requesting a copy of my SSN and proof of residence to be sent to PO Box 15077, Wilmington, DE 19886-5077, and to call 1-877-470-9042 if I had any questions.

I couldn't find the address or phone number on the Chase website, so I brought the letter to a nearby Chase branch to ask if they could confirm whether the letter was legitimate. They made a call to their credit department and confirmed the legitimacy of the letter, and then faxed the required information to the credit department for me.

So, if you fill out an online application for a Chase credit card, you should expect a letter like this in the mail. If you receive this letter but did not apply for a credit card, then someone else must have applied for a card in your name.

I received an invitation by mail from Chase for a Sapphire Card. Submitted the invitation with all the requested info but after two weeks I got the same letter in question on this forum asking for my SS# and proof of address. I don't intend to send it back, just doesn't seem legit. My question is has anyone received the card after submitting the requested info?
