well they have to serve you either dead drop or certified letter or once you heard should have checked court dockets and once you know when court date is show up. if its over sol plead that and if if they have a right to collecting from you . but all that should be sent in before you go to court. get legal advice. not going to be hard on you for not paying debt . things happen bad to good people ...good luck

Advise - pay your bills!!!!!!!   Nice story by the way - why weren't you in court when told to be?!  They sued you BUT you will not "give information until you know what legal action they will take".  Come on now!

I have a civil judgment on my record already.  I've never heard of this company until I returned a msg about being served.  I don't know what these people do but LVNV funding sure did sue me.  I ignored the calls and letters until the courthouse sent me copies of the case outcome.  Since I wasn't in court, cause I never thought a collection place would actually sue for me $1200, the full judgment went against me.  I don't know what I should do with this new case.  I took my chances once and it didn't work out so well... ANY ADVICE??? I cant afford to have another garnishment or the hit to my credit with another civil judgment... I don't want to give them any information until I know what Legal actions they will actually take.

Debt Collector
Played their game and called them back and agreed to pay whom ever. They said I owe an old credit card everyone else has written off. This is their scam to try to collect. I agreed to pay half and they accepted. Asked for debit or credit card and I told them I did not own one.
Told them I would mail check---told me must be certified---I agreed

Address they gave was 7056 Archibald suite 102, Corona Ca 92880    Make check out to Smythe Stove Crum--Marco Valdez

Googled this info---Address is UPS store  and no Smythe Stove Crum---their suite is a ups box
They will get my check when I hit the power ball lotto.    Friggin Bill Collectors

Got the same message different rep today. Called consumer protection for state of wv and was told that number is originating from another country"DO NOT CALL BACK" was whatI was told. The lady explained you wouldn't need a window of opportunity with a paper server to correct anything nor would you have an account rep either.

Seems like a scam to me.  Nobody warns anybody in advance that they are gong to be served with papers. The process server just shows up.  Puts it in your hand or leaves it at your doorstep.

Hello, here's an update, I called again and was told the company's name is NLS, National Litigation Services, they state they are a law firm and the reason I was called is they need to serve me with court documents pending a civil lawsuit against me. I have no idea what it is. Another thing, they called an old phone # that I only used when I didn't have a phone. I've had my same # for five years, yet they called my dad's phone (which is under my name, but...). I'm waiting for my papers too...

They just called my dad and left a message with a case number. I called the number and the person that answers the phone says the name of the company so quickly that I cannot make out what he is saying, just his name. My dad's states the message is from United Document Service regarding employment with a case #.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This is crazy... I did not think that process servers called ahead of time. It would have been nice to know that the police where showing up at my house. This stupid company called me right after I had just gotten served.

They left a message April Kennedy from United documents. Said they were going to send a process server to my work or home. Left message to call 8775265242 and called twice before 7:30am. I thought there was a law stating no calls before 8AM.
