This number was also being left as a call back number by the people using the number 888-392-6130 (brown Stein and weissman). The new company using number 877-687-0935 - a company using the name Group Genesis. Assuming they were also out of GeorgiaI searched the secretary of States website only to learn that Brown Stein and Weissman was dissolved and their licensee terminated on October 25th 2010.  Group Genesis was established as an LLC on October 12th 2010. Suspicious, much?

The new "group genesis' appears to be owned by an actual attorney. THAT STILL DOESN'T mean the debt you are calling about it valid. You are still entitled to debt validation - if they dont validate report them. Since this guy is an actual attorney, I'd report any illegal practices to the Georgia Bar Association as well as the FTC and AG.

I received a terse recorded message on my WORK voice mail which said (paraphrasing) that there was an important business matter involving me and that I needed to call "immediately" and provided a 15-digit account number, unknown to me. The incoming phone # was blocked. This number (877-687-0935) was provided as the call-back number to discuss the issue.

It sounds like a collection agency; however, I am not in arrears on any bills, much less having any debts going to collection. They called 11/11 a.m., and again 11/15 6:15pm. I will not be making any call-backs since it is clearly a harrassment call and/or intended for another person.

I just got a call from them and called back because I've never had a payday loan in my life and am not behind on any bills.  The Person answering said he's Raymond Becker from Joel Osteen Ministries.  I did attend one of Joel Osteen's events with my mother recently and I think she made a donation in my name so I guess that's why he's calling, to try to get more money.  I just hung up on him.

I keep getting calls from this number stating that they are looking for a completely different person and that I need to call them back immediately because I am "unaware of my involvement in the case."  What the heck am I supposed to do?  I am aware of everyone that has used my name as a reference of any kind and none of these people are in debt or behind on their bills.  They call my cell phone constantly, even at night.  I've been advised just to turn off my cell phone during the night but that is a complete impossibility because that is my only phone and I am the sole caregiver for my elderly parents.  Is there anything I can do to get them to stop calling me?  When these people leave their messages, they don't identify themselves.  The only reason I know it was Group Genesis is because I did finally call the number back and got a message that clearly stated their name.  They are driving me insane!!!!!

Would B Griffin even have the balls to say that to someone's face? Probably not, poor little fool. And apparently he has received calls from this number if he is even hanging out on this comment wall.

Debt Collector
Look, this payday loan has been sold several times. Pennies on the dollar isn't even correct. Payday are a ripoff. So these people basically rip off  those then can and will then harass those that cant pay them back.
DO NOT pay these people a cent. The biggest possible danger here is that these people may have your banking info from the file. Must likely they don't, companies don't sell the actual files, it is a computer file with very little information. Too much liability for the original to creditor to include that type of info. If you walked into a payday loan place and gave them actual checks, signed by you that have bounced, you could have some issues here. If this loan was over the phone and/or internet and the payments were processed via ACH, not much they can do. The original creditor probably kept running them until they either cleared or you had the account closed by now anyway. Should you actually speak with someone, get their name, wont be real, however the company must keep a list of "dunning names" on file. Politely ask them to stop calling, which they wont. When the calls continue, record them, go to the FTC website, look at the FDCPA and then advice them you are aware of your rights and that the actual collector can be held responsible for any FDCPA violations. The calls will then stop, until your "file" is sold again to another company. NO payday loan is going to be enough money for them to want to deal with FDCPA and FTC complaints.

I got a call from 843-554-4779 stating which said (paraphrasing) that there was an important business matter involving me and that I needed to call "immediately" and provided a toll number of 877-687-0935. When I tried to call the 877-687-0935 I keep getting a busy signal so I dailed the number that was on my caller ID which was 873-554-4779 and it has a recording stating the number of no longer in service to please check your number. I did a reverse look up in the yellow pages and it is to a Sherie Washington in Charleston, SC.. Oh and by the way they can not charge you with check fraud because with a payday loan you are not writing a bad check becuase you post day it. This is on of those crazy scavenger debt collectors.

Best Answer

It depends on how much it is. Indeed, if you wrote a check that bounced, that is illegal and punishable by law in most states. Yet, if it is a small amount, it can be resolved in a Small Claims Court. There, no lawyers are allowed, so you have the upper hand. But needless, to say, you should pay. You made a promise to pay back. If you have to go to court, steer the case to the Small Claims. The judge will rule over it quickly and a you can make a sob story win the case. But you fail to prove your case, you may have to pay interest.

My advice is pay in installments. Unless, they are at fault of something, you are likely to lose.

I found this on a legal website if your interested at all.

What are the Consequences of Not Paying Back a Payday Loan?
There are several consequences you could face by not paying back your payday loan. By ignoring your loan, the lender will probably charge you extra non-sufficient funds fees when they try to cash your post-dated check. Besides the payday loan company?s fees, your own bank could charge you costly overdraft fees as well. Eventually, the lender will send off your debt to a collections agency, which will then call you and write you letters reminding you of your debt. Each agency is different, but some people have said that payday loan collections agencies can be more aggressive in their practice. Since the amount of most payday loans is around $500, collection agencies have more incentive to get it quickly so are known to call much more often and be more threatening than other types of debt collections. This can become an embarrassing situation as they?ll also contact your work place, references, and any other number they can get a hold of. Having a debt in collections can have an extremely negative affect on your credit score as well and although not all lenders will report the debt to a credit agency, they will report you as a non-paying customer to payday loan related tracking services. As far as legal consequences go, there have been payday loan companies in the past that have sued customers who haven?t paid for their loans. Usually they?re sued for purposely writing bad checks or some other type of fraud, it?ll still end up costing you time and legal fees. While you may not face consequences like jail time for not paying back your payday loan, you?ll still have to pay back even more money and have to deal with collections agencies.

Do I Really Have To Pay Back My Payday Loan?
Since payday loans are considered unsecured loans, they are not secured with any collateral or personal property, I know there are some people out there who think there aren?t really any consequences for failing to pay them back. But when you?ve got a payday loan due, it?s always in your best interest to get it paid off as soon as you can. I can?t stress it enough that you should do everything you can to get the loan paid off right away, because waiting will only make matters worse. At the very least, failing to pay back a payday loan by the due date will result in having to borrow another loan to cover it. Now you owe even more money and even more interest, which builds up quicker than most people realize. When people get this deep in the hole, many will simply try to avoid paying back the loan at all. This is definitely the wrong decision here, no matter what happens you should at least try to get in contact with your lender and try to work something out with them. Often you can strike up a payment plan with them to get the loans paid off over time

These people just left a message on my 13 year old son's cell phone RIDICULOUS.  When you listen to his recorded message it is obvious that you are reaching a child and, I would think, equally obvious that you have the wrong number yet they left a threatening message for "Paula" anyway.  I am getting ready to call this idiot back and let her know that if they ever call his phone again I will report her to the authorities.  For all I know she's just some pervert trying to get my child to call her back and that's what I'll tell the police.

Clearly, everyone is not saying that they won't pay their debts, but whats wrong with these folks is that they call you threating you instead of talking with you. And they start out with you need to call us or this will happen or that will happen what kind of business does that unless your trying to scam people out of their money.  They don't even mention what company their calling from or anything of that nature just that you need to call us immediately. And the number on my caller id comes up with all 0's not ever a justified number, but they know how to leave a call back number which is always busy and than you have to keep calling them. If they wanted you that back they can send you a letter of the debt and information about the debt.  Tell them that since you seem to have all the answers to questions.

You know nothing about any of us.  I have a new phone number and they keep calling, even after I tell them I am not Abder Abdirham. I am clearly not the person they are looking for and they know it.  But yet they call  day after day after day.

There is a huge difference in the accent of a Middle Eastern person, and one who is norwegian, but they wont stop calling and when you tell them they have the wrong information and stop calling they threaten you with "legal" consequences.  The calls are always ended with "and may god have mercy on your soul".  Give me a break.

You people are people who don't want to pay back your debts no matter what. The people at this company are very kind to anyone who show respect when calling back to their office. It's not right to tell people not to pay their bills, if you can't pay just say so and see what can be done to help you move forward towards a positive resolution. And you know what debts you have and most of you who claims not to do payday loans are the main ones who do. My account has been paid in full thanks to the great lady that works for them who gave me the payments i could afford and on the dates i choose, so be nice because all debt collectors are not the same and maybe your life will be blessed....

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY. They are required to validate the debt you owe. Send them a debt validation letter. If they are unable to validate the debt, they can not collect on it. They are not allowed to call you while they are in the process of validating the debt.

Debt Collector
I received a terse recorded message on my voice mail which said (paraphrasing) that there was an important business matter involving me and that I needed to call "immediately".  Hours later, when I heard the message, I returned the call and found out this is a collection agency. They claim I owe two different payday loans (I've never taken a payday loan in my life) and that I was being "investigated" for "possible check fraud".

A word to the wise here...EVEN if you actually owe somebody money for something; when a debt collector uses tactics like "return the call immediately" and makes vague references to criminal charges; this is NOT a debt collector you can or ever should deal with.

By all means, pay your debts but don't ever let a scummy (and almost all of them are scummy) debt collector run your life.
