We are Verizon customers also. We both got the same message. We deleted them immediately. Got to be a scam.

I got the message "Card Service Alert: Your CARD has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 877-696-0395 to REACTIVATE your CARD" on 03/17/2010 at approximately 1230pm.
I have this phone number on the do not call list and filed a complaint through the fcc's do not call website. Please put these people behind bars!

I got a text around noon today. The same message as others about card being deactivated and to call the 1-877-696-0395 number.
Chaser 2010-03-18 03:46:23 Unknown
I got this stupid text twice. First of all nobody should fall for this scam because a credit card company will NEVER use the first four digits of your card, they use the last four digits. This text says: BOTC Alert: Your CARD starting with 4266* has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 877-696-0395 to REACTIVATE your CARD. The second tell-tale sign of fraud is if you don't even have a card starting with those digits (like myself). And third, how does an 877 number send a freaking text? I hate scammers! FBI needs to seek these people out and execute them.

Just got a text. ......and have no cards anyway. Nice little scam.

We received a call from text message asking us to call 877-696-0395, which we did not do, exactly like the ones described above. As we are Verizon customers, we called them to report it but got no help or even sympathy and no one could refer us to someone who would help. I believe that as long as the celtel
companies choose to do nothing, we, the users, will have these problems and be expected to perceive or avoid them on our own. This is a parallel to the web itself which, wanting no policing, chooses to have no enforcement or punishment, thus remaining the "wild west" of communications, where the scammers, spammers and phishers, particularly the foreign ones, run no risks. The only thing we can do is to suspect everything and when in doubt, google it. You may not know that you can even google a tel. no., but that's exactly how I found this site.

Just recieved the same message. Does anyone know where it is coming from?
HT 2010-03-17 21:37:14 Unknown
Strange question, but did anyone else call in to vote on American Idol last night? My daughter used my phone to do so, and dialed the wrong number initially (using 877 instead of 866).
I'm wondering if that is how they got my cell number

I am a Verizon customer and received the same text message to call 877-696-0395.....DO NOT CALL them back!! I called Verizon and the customer service rep said to send an email to phishing@verizonwireless.com and indicate what the text message said. I would suggest other cell service users call thier providers and find out how they can do the same.

My son just got the same message on his phone. Thankfully he called me to ask if his Dad or I had deactivated his card. I told him no and it sounded like some kind of scam.

I just got it @4pm est. I typed in my zip code, but when it asked for my card number and gave no menu options and I pressed "0" but it just hung up. It is a scam. I have notified my service provider. If you received this I suggest you do the same.
Concerned 2010-03-17 20:06:28 Unknown
I just got the text message a few minutes ago about the credit card deactivation. Sure wish I knew who gave away my number...
Rose 2010-03-17 20:01:45 Unknown
I just got a text also about my card being deactivated and to call to reactivate. I called the number and they asked for my zip and card number. What card number? And for what card - I'm current on my bills! I believe it's a scam too.
