This is not a SPAM call, DCU is validating a charge on your bill.
they do not ask you your SSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are helpful in getting resolution to a possible false charge.

Got 2 calls from them this morning. The first I hung up on because I just thought it was a spam call. Then I saw they called again and left a message. It just said to call immediately, DCU Visa fraud protection like everyone else mentioned. It's Sunday, so I can't get anyone at DCU, but it became more suspicious when they mentioned a charge that I don't have on my account and then the call suddenly switched to a survey and the guy I was talking to was gone.
Once I started looking at my bank account, I realized that there are in fact some fraudulent charges, but not the one that was mentioned (which isn't there at all). I'll be calling DCU tomorrow and already cancelled my card and transferred funds.

I also got a call from 877-703-5984. When I finally called it back after reading this forum, I opted to speak to a Live Person. Did get a lady with an accent so had to ask her to repeat things a few times. She asked my zip-code and street name. She already had the street number and City I live in. I told her I hadn't listened to the messages so didn't have the case number. She did not ask for my SSN and she read back the last 4 digits of my DCU card. I always use it as a Debit Card and she read off 5 purchases I had recently made. I verified all 5 of them. DCU has always been a great Credit Union to work with. They went above and beyond when they sent out new Credit Cards for all of their clients who had shopped at Target. I was a lucky person because I never use it as a Credit - always a Debit with pin #.

Within minutes of making an online purchase with my DCU account I got a call from this number. It is legit. Its DCUs fraud prevention! Yeah DCU!!!

Although if i called you asking for your SSN and you said wait let me call you back. I would give you my number.. and then you would call me anyway. How does that protect you by calling back? You can't call Visa fraud protection directly they have to call you.

I also got that call so I called my bank where I got the Visa - the person at the bank that I spoke to knew of the number and said it was legitimate.

I received recorded message from this number stating i need to call them immediately, and gave me case number.
When i called them, there is a option to speak with representative. Which i thought is safe to clarify what this call is for. i had asked representative couple of questions like, why they called me, why this call is important, and asked them to prove they really from DCU, hey gave all correct information. They informed some fraud transaction is happened on my card. and asked me to confirm that amount is being done by me. Which was actually not done by me. Thanks to DCU for informing me. Its already late so I will be calling DCU customer support tomorrow during working hours.

I think they are legit , but will call DCU tomorrow to verify. I called them and they had almost all the right answers.

They're calling me over and over about recent purchases on an account that's maxed and I rarely use. Meanwhile, my primary VISA/debit card that I use daily gets no attention? What kind of service is this?!

This is a legit number, but it's not surprising that it confuses people. I got a call from this number this morning after using my DCU Visa to make a charitable contribution to an overseas organization online. It was an automated call, and after asking for my zip code, it asked for the last four digits of my social security number. I would never give that out under these circumstances, so I hung up. The number called back a couple of hours later and I didn't answer. It left a message, asking me to call back and giving me a case number to use when I called. When I called this time, it gave me the option to speak to a human being, which I opted for immediately. The human being verified that it was legit, told me of the purchase, and I was able to verify it and clear it all up. I'm glad that Visa and DCU are vigilant on my behalf, but it's really strange to get a call out of the blue asking for part of your social security number.

Got a missed call from them this morning,
I also have a DCU Visa Check Card and they rejected a credit purchase last night at Walmart near Dallas (about $120 worth of groceries) while I was travelling (despite the fact that I've been here for months and have even run that card at that Walmart before) So I ran it again as debit and it worked fine.
So they're probably legit, but definitely DO NOT EVER give out your personal info (especially last 4 of SSN) to someone who called you. I don't care if it's the pope... you ask for a number to call them back yourself so you can make sure they are legit.
Kat1 2012-07-14 13:03:41 Unknown
If it is legit, why didn't they leave a message?! If it is so important especially about the DCU Visa, they would leave a message. I never answer a number that I do not recognize. They should know better.

I received a call this morning from DCU Fraud Prevention Services before 9am (today is Sunday and did not give the last four numbers of my SSN. After checking here, I called the number back and have to give the card number but no SSN. I was told that my card had been run for a charge three times in a row at a Walmart in Mississippi yesterday. (I'm in Vermont)I can't reach DCU today but will call them tomorrow to verify authenticity for certain. The number I was given by this person to call IS the customer service number on the back of my DCU Visa card. I appreciate the info here! It's impossible to know who to trust any more!

Just called them, and they had the purchases over the last 2 days and wanted to verify. Nothing was hugely expensive nor out of state or country. Discover called me on a charge made in Italy when I went there, so that's OK. I don't get this, the phone line sounded strange, the lady's voice was tinny or something, but she was nice.
So, like are we being monitored or something? Weird to me too that they called.

I got the same call today after using my DCU debit card for some fairly sizeable amounts while travelling arund the state today. After reading your posts above & seeing DCU, I realised that was legit. I called the number and entered the case number they left on my VM and confirmed the transactions. 100% legit. Its DCU's fraud prevention services.

Had similar issue, checked with DCU first they mentioned 877-703-5984 is the VISA fraud protection service for them, I had the case if from them.
I did not had to share my SSN, they just asked me my zipcode, they already had my street number, just asked me half of the address.
steve 2011-12-01 21:09:13 Unknown
They left me a voicemail telling me to call them back at 877-703-5984 about my visa card... seemed sketchy, so I called my bank (DCU), they said it was legit and that it was the fraud protection service they use.
sebek 2011-11-26 18:06:51 Unknown
claimed they were from visa, to verify my recent purchases. They wanted my zip and last 4 of SSN. Looked very suspicious.
sebek 2011-11-26 18:04:34 Unknown
Automated call, claimed that they were verifying recent purchases on my visa. Wanted me to enter my zip code and last-four of SSN.
Not sure if they are legit or not.
