You can block them with a call blocker:
-Uniden DECT 6.0 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
-Panasonic DECT 6.0/6.0 PLUS blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
You can pick one up at XS Cargo(most are refurbished) or you can try BEST BUY/FUTURE SHOP. Sometime they got "open box" items.
If you take the call, ask the name of the caller, mark down time  & date of the call. Then ask them not to call again or put you number into their "No Call List". If the caller call you again, you can file a complaint to :

have had several calls, never pick up, went to voice mail today,no message.  Caller ID is Avatar Bains.

Charities and (unfortunately) political parties are exempt from the "don't call" list.  If you talk to them, you can tell them to take you off their list and they are required to do so.  I don't know how well that works with these calling services.  I just don't answer when there's no name in Caller ID or if I don't recognize the name.  They never leave messages but some will hold on so your machine thinks there's a message and blinks at you.  Pain in the posterior.

We also rec'd a call - saw the 877# and ignored it - the answering machine picked up and it was a pre-recorded survey about voting in the upcoming provincial election.  Wish these types of calls were't allowed - they are a pain - thankfully our Panasonic phone has a built in call blocking feature - once it's blocked if they call again the phone only rings once and cuts the call off.  Using it a lot lately.........

Called me and recorded message started right away...tired sounding, low energy native English speaking lady (as in Canadian). Tells me this is an important survey ...and my views are important. Suspect it relates to impending BC election.

this is telephone telemarketing from the Phillippines, India, Africa or Western Europe. These folks do not have a good command of English or French. Two ways to get your telephone number off of the 'Purchased' telemarketing list, 1) when the call is received press the # on your telephone key pad until the call disconnects this sends your telephone number to the 'bad number list, or 2) speak French, Russian, Cantonese/Mandarin,  Japanese or some other language to the calling party, if they cannot understand you the telephone number will go on their 'bad number' list. By the way, the telemarketing phone lists sell for $200,000.00 - $300,000.00 or more apiece. Once you answer a call and even tell them you no longer wish to receive calls or that your name and telephone number are on the Canadian do not call list, as most of these telemarketers are outside of Canada, they take the number as a 'live' contact and keep this information for future telemarketing and or sell the lists.

Yup they called today, and its Sunday to boot. When will this stop!

So anyone else get a strange ring pattern? 2 second long ring as first ring, then regular ring.

I received 2 calls from this number within 1 hour of each other. No one on the line.
I called the number. It is Strategic Communications, a service for non-profit clients.
Given the option to press 1 to stop the calls, I did so, entered my number and was told it would take 2 business days to take effect.

Called my cellphone.   Automated message making slanderous comments regarding current provincial government and pensions of some sort (since automated the first part of message not recorded on voicemail).  Not surprised to read above comments that this # is often associated with NDP shenanigans.

I was called today about a telephone, town-hall meeting. Not sure who it was, because the robot kicked in before the beep, but it was somebody in the political sphere offering me the chance to join in tomorrow and ask questions. It's not a crank, or a rip-off, anyway.

Recorded message from Federal NDP advising of upcoming "telephone town hall".  I can't complain, I'm legitimately on their phone list.

Got a call from this number numerous times...says something about care2 and the ndp and wanting donations and telling me that a lady on a fixed income donated 50$ and i should donate too and something about ndp getting cut off funds for the next election so they are wanting donations....seems fishy to me!

Got a call from someone at Care2 last week, ph # 1-416-342-9716. Googled it, no such number exists. Person at other end mentioned Care2 and the Great Lakes.  Said she'd call back this wk. and that was today, twice today.  This time it's the above number.  I don't know if she's a telemarketer or from a Care2 call centre.  There isn't any Care2 in Toronto.  She told my spouse, that each time she's called I'm somewhere.

They've called me no less than 20 times in the last week. ARGH

They provide services for a polling company, which I believe is exempt from the do not call list. So, yes, they can call you if you are on the do not call list.
