GOT A  CALL TO MY CELL PHONE ASKING FOR MY FIANCE'. ASKED WHO WAS CALLING AND DID NOT HAVE MY QUESTION ANSWERED. INSTEAD THE PERSON ON THE OTHER LINE STARTED TELLING ME THAT MY FIANCE' OWES MONEY TO CITI BANK AND HE NEEDS TO PAY IT OFF NOW. HE STATED TO ME OUR CURRENT ADDRESS AND CLAIMED THAT SINCE WE ARE AT THIS ADDRESS (WHICH WE RENT AND NOT OWN) THEN WHY HASN'T MY FIANCE PAID OFF HIS DEBT. HIS VOICE SEEMED IMMATURE AND UNSURE OF ACCUSATIONS ABOUT THE DEBT LIKE HE WAS SOME KIND OF ROOKIE DEBT COLLECTOR. WHEN I REPLIED TO HIM THAT HE NEEDED TO SEND INFORMATION ABOUT THE SO CALL DEBT TO US HE STARTED ACTING WEIRD AND TRANSFERRED MY CALL WITHOUT EVEN TELLING ME HE WAS TRANSFERRING ME. NEXT THING I KNOW SOMEONE ELSE IS SAYING HELLO AND ASKING ME HOW THEY CAN HELP ME. I TOLD THIS NEW PERSON THAT THEY WERE THE ONES WHO CALLED ME. THEN HE PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT MY FIANCE' HAS A DEBT FROM CITI BANK THAT NEEDS TO BE PAID OFF. I RESPONDED THE SAME AS I DID WITH THE OTHER PERSON. I TOLD HIM TO SEND INFORMATION OF THIS SO-CALLED DEBT. THAT'S WHEN HE STARTED GETTING RUDE. ASKING ME WHO I WAS, HOW LONG ME AND MY FIANCE' HAVE BEEN TOGETHER, INSINUATING THAT MY FIANCE' WAS HIDING THINGS ABOUT HIS PAST TO ME, TELLING ME I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING. I WAS GETTING PRETTY UPSET. I TOLD HIM TO STOP SPEAKING TO ME AS IF I WAS A IGNORANT CHILD THAT DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO PULL. I TOLD HIM IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT MY FIANCE' HAS DONE IN THE PAST OR WHATEVER DEBT THIS PERSON CLAIMS HE HAD, THAT I AM HERE NOW AND THAT WE DEAL WITH EVERYTHING TOGETHER. HE CONTINUED TO ATTACK ME WITH THREATS THAT HE WAS GOING TO SUE US. AT THAT POINT I ENDED THE CONVERSATION AND TOLD HIM THAT UNLESS HE SENDS INFORMATION OR THIS SO-CALLED DEBT THAT WE OWE THEN TO STOP CONTACTING ME AND MY FIANCE'. I ALSO TOLD HIM THAT HE PROBABLY WONT NEED TO ASK FOR MY MAILING INFORMATION SINCE HE SOMEHOW FOUND OUT OUR PHONE #. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED THERE WERE SEVERAL VIOLATIONS THAT THIS COLLECTOR MADE. THIS LINK IS 15 FDCPA VIOLATIONS. WHAT DEBT COLLECTORS CAN'T DO:  http://credit.about.com/od/debtcollection/tp/fdcpa-violations.htm
THIS LINK IS FAIR DEBT PRACTICES: http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.shtm
ON THESE SITES IT'LL GIVE YOU INFORMATION TO LEARN TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THESE RUDE DEBT COLLECTORS AND WHAT YOUR RIGHTS ARE. YOU CAN ALSO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FDC. IF YOU RECEIVE LETTERS IN THE PHONE CALLS FROM DEBT COLLECTORS MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT ADMIT TO ANY DEBT, DO NOT PAY OVER THE PHONE, OR DO ANYTHING BEFORE YOU ASK THEM TO SEND INFORMATION OF THIS SO-CALLED DEBT. IF YOU RECEIVE LETTERS IN THE MAIL. MAKE SURE YOU READ THEM CAREFULLY. MOST DEBT LETTERS ARE REQUIRED BY FEDERAL AND STATE LAW TO NOTIFY YOU OF YOUR SPECIFIC RIGHTS.  FROM THE FIRST DAY OF RECEIVING THE LETTER YOU HAVE 30 DAYS TO RESPOND OR THE DEBT COLLECTORS WILL ASSUME THE DEBT IS VALID. SO DON'T IGNORE THE DEBT LETTERS. RESPOND TO THEM WITHIN 30 DAYS BY WRITING THEM A LETTER STATING THAT YOU DISPUTE THE VALIDITY OF THE DEBT OR ANY PORTION OF IT. REQUEST THAT YOU WOULD LIKE VERIFICATION AND A COPY OF A JUDGMENT OF THE DEBT. ALSO REQUEST THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE ORIGINAL CREDITOR OF THE DEBT. THE LAW ALSO LIMITS HOW LING YOU CAN BE SUED ON A DEBT. LOOK UP STATUE OF LIMITATIONS. HOPE THIS HELPS ANY OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD TO EXPERIENCE THE BS OF DEBT COLLECTORS.

Has anyone paid their debt to Orions and actually see it removed from their credit report?

I paid my debt in March and was advised by Robert Villalba that I would need to mail each credit bureau a letter provided by Orions showing my debit was paid. Robert never mailed me said letter and now their toll free number is disconnected, along with their local number.

Sounds like I got screwed by a scam.

If a debt collector contacts you regarding an old debt, do not admit that you owe the debt and do not agree to make any payments.  Simply tell them that the "statute of limitations has run on this debt and do not contact me again".  If they continue contacting you, send them a certified letter, return receipt requested, telling them not to contact you about the debt again.  Remember -- DO NOT ADMIT THAT YOU OWE THE DEBT, DO NOT AGREE TO PAY THE DEBT, AND DO NOT AGREE TO SEND ANY MONEY TO THEM.  If you do, then the statute of limitations might start running all over again, giving them the legal right to sue you.

Wasn't sneaky, the law does not allow them to advertise you debt on an answering machine. If would could leave messages with specific info, trust me, we would. I'm glad you were able to resolve your outstanding issue and honestly tell me, isn't it a relief to not have it hanging over your head?

You say they're dirty because you called them and asked them to identify yourself?? Wow. You are a typical debtor. You failed to meet your financial (and moral for that matter) obligations and now because it finally caught up to you, they are dirt bags? I think not. They are a legitimate company performing a necessary function in society but they are the dirt bags. No one likes it when they get a ticket for speeding but is the officer a dirt bag? No, he is performing a necessary function. If he did not everyone would drive like maniacs and the roads would be unsafe. If debt collections did not exist guess what would happen, no one would pay back their debts. It would lead to the collapse of our entire economy. You don't think so? Do you understand the amounts of monies banks lend out every year? What if everyone decided not to pay anything back because there is no one to enforce repayment not to mention the jobs this industry creates? Do you have a clue how many people are employed by the collection industry? Yes, collections is an integral part of our society.  Dude, accept responsibility for your actions (wow, there's a concept) and either contact them and try to resolve the issue or file Bankruptcy. Either option will stop the calls, I promise you. I understand some collectors are not pleasant to deal with but sticking your head in the sand and avoiding the issue will not make it go away. Insulting them will not either. If I had a penny for some of the obscenities that I have heard from debtors, well, you get the picture. Anyone that is in debt and dealing with these issues should take a look a show called "Big Spender" on A&E. Very informative on accountability and managing your money and tackling debt in a logical manner. Yes I am a bill collector. No I do not work for this company. I actually am considering being an advocate for the collection industry. To better understand both sides, I sometimes peruse these posts. I have a college education, granted 2 year community college but college nonetheless. Here's a tip for all you "Big Spenders", only use credit cards for things you have the money for. If you can't pay cash, do not use a credit card. I'm sure you are wondering then, why use them at all? Because credit is necessary. I have a car loan with 0 interest folks. I am not paying the bank a penny for financing the loan. You know why? Because my credit score is over 750. How did I achieve this? I need tires for my car, I save the money and once I have it, I purchase the tires on a credit card and I immediately remit a check to my bank for the entire amount. I NEVER pay the minimum payment. I have credit cards that many of you never heard of because they are not offered or available to persons with less than exceptional credit. I do not say this to brag but to illustrate what being financially responsible can do for you. Stop living beyond your means. If you can't pay off a credit card bill within 1-2 months, you should not be making the purchase. Lastly, I understand that there are responsible people who are in these predicaments because of tragedy. Say job loss due to a terminal illness. Maybe you live in a small town and the only good paying job is a plant that closed down. You think I am not human? That I have never experienced any kind of tragedy? If you did not carry credit cards with large balances and if you actually saved some money, these life altering events would be more bearable. Take responsibility and control of your lives or..... bury your head in the sand. The choice is yours.

Be aware that these guys are legit. I spoke with them and they were willing to work with me. They do have attorneys and they do sue accounts. If they are on your credit then they are legit. I use to read these things too but take into consideration the blogs some of these guys write. And think about what kind of people they are? They dont care about their credit. They just want to bad mouth this company to justify themselves not to pay what they owe. I was intimidated at first but it all worked out in the end. I spoke with a guy named Rich and he was very cool and understanding. I guess he is the boss so trust me, ask for Rich.

People, dont take anyone's opinion in order to avoid your problem. It will catch up to you. TRUST ME.
Just call and get it over with. Its easier than you think.

I received a call from 877-746-4133 on my cell phone on 10/7/10 from a "Jay Rodriguez" looking for my husband.  This "Jay" said that he was calling about some unpaid credit card debt from 2002 for $592 but that there had been a settlement and that we now just need to pay half of it.  He is real pushy.

He called my cell again this morning and left a VM.  He also called my mother-in-law.

It's extremely obnoxious, as he has our home address.

I agree. Sneaky way to get you to call back. The message they left said it was time sensitive and that is was regarding the property we used to live at...should have known it was a sneaky way to get us to call them...

It was for my husband but they called my cell phone. Said it was a Citibank credit card and was reporting on his credit report for $7000 but $5000 was interest and they have graciously lowered it to only $2900 and they need to make payment arrangements immediately....

Sneaky front for a debt collection agency.  They collect debts from Mastercard, Visa, etc.  They leave a message that's "time sensitve" and in "your benefit" to call back soon.  Someone answers and they immediately push you off to a (fast talking) "director".

One positive note: they actually assist quite a bit with getting rid of the extra fees incurred and accrued.

But, know what you're getting yourself into if you call back.
