Go to the following website as suggested

https://www.magcustomerservice.com

select inquiring about status then proceed to cancel any that appear. Make sure you say no thanks to "end the billing" because that does NOT cancel the order.

I was never called from this number, although I did use my expiring FF mile points from American Airlines to order my "Free" magazine (incl. the $2.00 for handling).  Low and behold, I'm charged on an account that is open, but I currently do not use that charge card.

Long story short, I went to the Synapse Group website, followed the magazine subscription option, went into my account for the subscription, got all the pertinent info., then called the phone number provided for live help.  I spoke with a gentleman who took care of my cancellation order and also gave me a cancellation confirmation number to use if I do not receive a refund check back for the full amount of the subscription billed.  He stated the process would take 10-14 days - have to wait and see.

I used this address:  https://www.magcustomerservice.com/wss/

Shockingly enough, they are backed by the BBB - now, that's a crock!

*WARNING TELL EVERYONE NOT TO TAKE FREE 6 MONTH SUBSCRIPTIONS*

This is one of the best scams for unknowing people. From what i have read they are all over the place its like a bad itch that wont go away. I bought some books from a bookstore and was offered the 2 free subscription I gave my name and address ONLY to them thinking it was free. It did come but after a while it stopped so i thought it was over. Now I start getting 40-60$ fees from TWX on my card when I have no magazines. The first time I called and saw a charge on my account they cancelled 1/2 that how they get you to think its all over. I called the number the second time 3 months from then and was confronted by a rude person giving me offers and fake numbers to cancel it. I found this site and called the number finding out they didn't cancel 1/2 of the subscriptions. These people should go to jail for stealing credit card numbers. The form had no box for a credit card number so I thought why am i being charged on the card i bought the books with.

Take this as a lesson never take anything free if you have to fill out forms, it will come back to haunt you later.

They pulled the automatic renewal on me without my authorization (and not sure how they even got my bank account information since I used airline points for the initial subscriptions). The call center is a joke, but the website http://www.magcustomerservice is easy to use...but read each question carefully!

They can't bill your checking account unless you literally gave them permission to access to your account. In other words you apparently gave them your account information. Otherwise they couldn't get to it.

I just got a $49 charge on my bank account from this number, could only get auto response, but it sounds like it for a magazine subscription. I couldn't get to a real person. Will report to my bank if anyone found out what company this is or where to report it -please let me know.

FYE is where i was swindled as well. They never mentioned that after my free subscription ran out, they would automatically charge me for another year's subscription at full price. Since i never gave the magazine my account information, I'm left with the conclusion FYE took the liberty of providing it, seeing as i used my card to pay for the CD i bought that day.

I was automatically signed up for a magazine and charged -- using your bank statement, you can cancel from the site above. Pretty easy just be sure to read their online questions during the cancellation process.

I had the same experience. You start by saying you want to cancel a certain magazine.  Then you say no to all of the options offered.  It will eventually come to a statement saying the magazine has been cancelled and your credit card will be credited for the full amount. This is a very sinister operation and they should be put out of business.

I just found 2 charges on my credit card this morning, totaling $77. Like many people here I also had signed up for some promotional offer last year and was charged for renewal without receiving a reminder notice. Called the number and after like 15 min with the automated service, I managed to cancel all subscriptions. It only lets you cancel one at a time so it took awhile, plus they keep try to make you sign up for additional services. Make sure you say NO to everything and eventually they'll let you cancel. We'll see if I receive full refund as promised.

This surely is a sneaky way for them to make money, it left a bad taste in my mouth and made me waste my entire morning. Do they honestly think they can gain customers by deceiving them this way? I certainly will avoid this company like a plague and warn everyone I know. They should be reported for this practice.

Hi, I have the same problem with you. And I used the website to cancel my subscription also. Could you tell me if you have received the refund yet? Is it a possible way to cancel it online?

I found an UNAUTHORIZED credit card charge for $32.00 for a Real Simple magazine renewal. Called this number - played with their menu options system and eventually confused it, I finally got conncect to 'Daniel Johnson' at 3:51PM EDT. I absolutely ripped him making it VERY clear I had not authorized this transaction. He insisted I had signed up for a "free" 3-issue trial offer in 2009 through something called Orchard Brand?
I've been subscribing to Real Simple directly through the magazine for a number of years, but never did a trial offer. If I'm interested in a magazine, I purchase over-the-counter copies for 6mos. to a year BEFORE subscribing.
At any rate, I insisted he cancel this charge, remove my name and credit card from their database. He assured me this had been done and I also insisted on an email confirmation these corrective steps had been taken.
Somewhere during the phone call I got this web address  https://www.magcustomerservice.com, which I just discovered is part of http://www.synapsegroupinc.com/.

Thank you so much for posting the website address, turns out I had three subscriptions that were renewing that I had forgotten all about 1 of the mags we never even got, found out it was going to another address in another state.  I processed the cancellation on their website and printed the pages so we will see what happens.  I will let you all know how fast or slow the refund is.

I received unauthorized charges similar to your stories.    This is definitely a scam!!!  I finally got tired of the recordings which tried to trick you into continuing.  I pressed "0" and got someone on the phone.  It is 10 at night, so there wasn't much of a wait.  This is terrible these folks get away with this!!

I did not get a call from this number-it showed up on my bank statement with a charge! So glad I followed it through!

This is a magazine.  I did subscribe to it a year ago for 1$ a copy.  Apprarently they said that subscription allowed them to automatically renew.  They said they sent a postcard reminding me that I would be charged and the magazine would continue. I DID NOT get a reminder about the charge.

They refunded the money pretty quick.

My account was charged 90$ on ONE DAY for three magazines:
Health (877-754-4892)
Travelers (877-645-6804)
Real Simple(877-645-6805)

If you look at the charge, you will see the code TWX on it.  Also you can see sometimes a partial name of the magazine. Then you can see the phone number.

DO NOT use the automated voice to do this because she offeres some trick offers and the options are limited.I think I pressed 0 and it gave me the operator. Or I may have been given the choice.

When you call they will ask the charge date, amt, and your zip.  They found my account right away.
Good luck!

I received a free year's subscription to People Magazine when I bought books at Books A Million in May 2010.  Today, 60.98 was posted to my account and this number was listed with the transaction.  I called the number and reached an automated service.  Of course, the computer animated person couldn't understand a word I said and she was only able to tell me what I already knew...$60.98 was taken out of my account! SOOO, I'm going to stop payment on this transaction.

I had a $34 charge from this merchant on 6/6.  My bank researched the issue and reported to me that the purchase derived from the phone number everyone else has mentioned.  I called my bank, told them what happened and they said my money would be refunded in 2-3 business days.  They did have to cancel my debit card, which came at a bad time because of my vacation.  So now I'm waiting 5-7 business days on a new debit card to arrive.

Ridiculous what this "merchant" is putting people through.

This company has been diverting calls to me for months.  I've talked with David Lynch at Synapse and several of the phone companies involved along with the Better Business Bureau and today, the FCC.

Every "wrong number" call I've received has been from someone saying the same thing: they want to cancel a magazine subscription they never ordered.

Very slick sending their unwanted calls to other people, eh?

This WILL stop.  Don't know whether it will be through the Attorney General's Office, FCC, telecom carrier, Better Business or what just yet, but it will stop.

just wanted to provide an update to everyone involving my experience posted on 6/2.  i just checked my bank statement and the first credit went through on 6/3.  the balance (about which i spoke with a customer service rep and supervisor) was credited on 6/10.  fortunately, i didn't need to get my credit card company invovled.  good luck to everyone who is dealing with this issue.
