Come on people. If you get a robocall from your insurance company and it's "Linda" from this number, it's legit. They need to do this every year or so, to verify whether or not you have other insurance. That's all it is. You use the ID number they give on the phone, rather than providing any other kind of personal info.

That's not to say there are not related phishing scams that are spoofing this number, knowing that people might trust it.

I called and it only asked me if I had other coverage.  Seems legit.   That is unless they do a few like this to get people to say its legit on websites like this one.  I would say just don't give out any sensitive info or even info that identifies you that they don't already have--they already had my name.  If you are asked anything else including your birthday just hang up.

Received a robocall from Linda at United Healthcare with a security code. I called United Healthcare's member services and the representative verified the number as the United Health Care Coordination of Benefits Department. I called the number back and it asked me if I had other health insurance coverage and then said goodbye.

Got the call today from 678.421.4908 (sent it to voice mail), it was automated, said it was United Health Care Coordination of Benefits Department.  It said my husband's name (he is the primary on the insurance however this call was to my cell phone).  It gave the call back number as 877.828.5743 and gave me an 8 digit code to input when I returned the call.  I did not return the call and blocked the incoming number from every phone on my plan.  The only reason I believe it might be legitimate is that I happened to be on UHC's website earlier today and as soon as I logged in I was greeted by a screen that wanted me to update the record of everyone on the plan with information about potential other insurance and that this was a routine request.  That said, and assuming the call is legitimately from UHC, I've now completed this task online so my number should have automatically dropped from their computer's call list.  I agree with everyone who posted stating this is bad business in today's climate of identity theft and phishing.  It's even worse if UHC's customer service reps do not know about it when anyone calls in to them to inquire about the legitimacy of the call.

I received a call with an automated voice name "Linda" and stated to write down an eight digit personal code and to call United Healthcare - Oxford at 1-877-828-5743 to get information on if anyone in my household has any other insurance coverage and to answer YES or NO to questions after several beeps. Then after answereing the machine hung up on me and I was disconnected.!!.... I do NOT wish to receive any more calls of this sort to my home telpehone number! I WILL REPORT THIS TO THE FCC COMPLAINT BOARD.

Recieved 3 calls from this # with a 8 digit confirmation code. Chose to not call based on what I have read from others. I don't have secondary insurance so it's not even a worry. If they want to call me they can call in person.

Listen I got this message too and I'm not sure if it's legit or not. Like most of you I called a toll free number on Oxford's website and asked them about it. They had trouble understanding me as like mahy of you they told me they didn't know what this number was/is and that as far as they knew it wasn't from any of their depts and they don' tknow who it was that called.  Hmmm...you mean to say the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing?  The lady I spoke to took down the number and called it and then returned after placing me on hold and said she didn't know who they were or what they wanted and that the toll free number didnt match any number of any dept that they had.

Thing is this, plain and freaking simple, that toll free number whether it's bogus or for real DIDN'T have an option in any part of it to talk to a live person. That's the deal breaker people, at no point in that stupid automated system did it give you an option to talk to a live operator, it just didn't which is whythe alarm bells should go off. You need something from me, you give me the option to talk to you personally if I want or good bye, but as it stands I went as far as giving them my health provider name but screw it I'm not doing anymore.

I read through all this messages.  Some people are claiming it is a scam, and others are saying it is a legitimate call.  When I called UHC, they indicated that the number did not come from anywhere in their benefit and claims center.  They also said that they would send a request in writing for any information that they needed.
Regardless of the situation, it is always best to call the numbers listed on your medical cards.  It may take longer, and you may have to sit from an automated system, but it is by far the safest bet to keeping your information safe and secure.  You never know what someone can do with the most seemingly harmless information.

Under the guise of "Coordination of Benefits" department, they are phishing for social security numbers, which are used as ID numbers for Medicare.  Don't give them any information!  My insurance company has informed me that NO ONE has called me from the insurance company!

Thought it was a scam as well.   At no point did they ask for information other than if I did or did not have other coverage.   This used to be done via mail.   Still it was a pain having to call UHC just to check to see if it was legit.  A waste of my time and theirs.

I called them as well, and it is not a scam. they just wanted to check whether we had any other health benefits under another plan.  I told them also that it's bad practice to call from this unknown number w/ these robo-calls asking for information, that I thought it was a scam and so do a lot of other people so he might want to pass that along to his management or something.  He replied that they already have many many times and that they get TONS of calls about this. seems like a waste of their time and $ both because people don't respond to the request for info and also because of all the time and effort wasted by their customer service reps having to answer questions about this.    anyhow - NOT a SCAM - just a stupid business practice if you ask me.

I got the same call.  I called UHC and the lady did not know what that was about.  However, she said they do have an automated message system that calls to see if their members have other insurance besides their own.  I think maybe that's what the questionaire is about?  Anyways, she told me there's nothing needed or wrong with my acct.  So I can just ignore it.

This is identical to the issue I was having: got several calls from 678-421-4908 claiming to be from UHC Coord of Benefits dept, voicemail stated to call 877-828-5743 (not listed on UHC website anywhere) with an 8 digit security code.  I called a number at UHC from their website and talked to a *live* person.  Told her my situation and she transferred me to the Coordination of Benefits dept. That person verified that the calls were legitimate.  I explained how this is not a good business practice as the 877-828-5743 was not verifiable from an outside source.  I would have had to "trust" the voicemail's word for it and call in potentially giving out sensitive information to an "unknown" party.  Turns out I had already answered their question on the website already *a week ago* - which is even more annoying that I was still getting calls. She said she would try to remove the phone calls to me regarding this issue. Hope this helps others who get these annoying calls from an automating system that sound very phishy.

Thank you all, I also had a United Health Care call from this number and was hesitant about replying to the number.  The number that shows up on my caller ID as the source of the call is 678-421-4908, from Lilburn, Georgia.

Good advise to just call UHC directly from the numbers listed on their website and or your insurance card, seems this 877-828-5743 is a possible fishing scam.

Received message to call with a security code to help expedite my United Health Care claims.  Will not call back, sounds like a scam.  United Health Care has all my info and my claims are being processed in a timely manner.  I would not recommend anyone who receives this message to call them.

If you have call forwarding features (like on Verizon Digital Voice), than forward this jerk to 717-338-2533.  That's the FCC Director's office phone.  Maybe the FCC will finally do their job when they start getting the annoying calls.
