An elderly member of our church got a call from the same number reporting her grandson was in a drug deal gone bad and to get him out of Ecuador they would need $2700. LOL, they reported to be in the Embassy, when I asked who the American Ambassador was in Quito they were clueless.

My mother got a call from 877-837-9007 this morning, claiming m y son was in jail in Haiti. She also made it to the bank, but, fortunately, they knew her and called my dad, who called me. We headed it off at the pass!! She is still not convinced though.  They told her to go to Walmart  and send $$$ to Port au Prince via Moneygram. The recipient was to be a person named Raphael Raussey.

Calls from this number are a hoax asking for money to be sent because a young relative has gotten into some kind of trouble in a foreign country.  They represent themselves as being from the American Consulate in whatever country.  Total Scam!

We also got a call that my son was arrested in Haiti and needed to send money to get him into court today so he could catch his flight home tomorrow.  They contacted my 90 year old mother who actually made it to the bank to get the money before I could stop her.  They put someone on the phone to impersonate my son.  This happened this morning, Dec. 19.

Today, December 18, 2012, received a call from someone claiming to located in the American Embassy in Mexico City.  Said a  young relative was just arrested there and we needed to send $$$$ immediately to get her out of trouble.   SCAM!!!!!!
