I had a call today from someone saying they need to come and serve me to appear in court for writing bad checks and fraud for taking out a loan. They would not give me there address of there location information. They said they are from the BARR Group. When I tried to look them up, I could not find any information. I had not written any checks, or done any fraud.

Private call said it had a complaint and summons against a name we had never heard of. When I called back to say that they had the wrong number.  The person on the other end then tried to harrass me.  We asked the name of the company and they would not give us that information.  Then to my amazement they then tried to question me and who I was.  At this point I just hung up the phone

Got the same call as everyone above.  The message was to return the call to 877-840-0375.  I read the post above about the Barr Group, and there is a collection agency when I googled named Barr Mitchel and White in Houston, Texas.  I don't know if this is them since the number listed is a local Houston number.

How could she call me and threaten me that they had charges against us for fraud check writing, if and then ask me a stupid question like that?!!! I told them I had consulted an attorney and that the attorney had advised not to give my checking account info to them, but to ask for mailing address. She got upset and demanded that I make some form of arrangement with a bank card or else... I refused so she she started again to threaten me with the charges. At that point I was tired of hearing the threats so I hung up!

got a call this morning by a private caller who left a message saying that a complaint had been filed againest me for passing a bad check, i dont even write checks and they said i had limited time to contact them or someone would be coming to my home or my work to serve  me and said that i had officially been notified.

Interesting posts! I received a call from a guy saying he was hired by the Barr Group Law Firm to serve me with a summons on a bad check written "with the intent to defraud".  That he wanted to give me the chance to rectify the situation rather then going before a judge and having charges brought against me.  I work for a police department so this, of course, was alarming to me.  He didn't have any information about the amount of the check or whom the check was allegedly written to but gave me a phone number for the Barr Group so they could provide me with the information.  The phone number he gave me says it is a number that is not currently in service.  Looking the Barr Group on line is what brought me to these posts.  Good thing I found out that I'm not the only one receiving these kinds of calls.  Phone number given me was 877-290-2997 ext-314.

Pay Day Idiot - I know that's right.  I got the same message and it's a pay day loan that I owe using a Skype number when they call so when you call the 615-724-7999 back it's out of service

I got the same message.  THe number he called from was a Skype number and he said papers were left on his desk and if I didn't call back the company at this number they will proceed.

I love how they try to use legal terms to scare people.  For instance, in a small claims suit, the Court issues the summons, not the plaintiff.  The one who called me kept saying "plaintiff" and "summons" over and over, much as they would use the word "default."  I laugh when I hear the guy saying, "You HAVE been notified."

Alfalfa...Im going to believe that they are another sleazy collections company. For sure! Good to know other's feel the same way. It's just so ironic that I can't find anything on them. I got tossed around a few times and was finally placed w/a supervisor. Even the supervisor had no ability to provide me w/a mailing address or license#. He kept throwing my personal info at me. Helllllo genius anyone can somehow obtain ur personal info. Unfortunatly America isn't so beutiful anymore. You can't even send your kids down the street for a gallon of milk these days. Too many creeps out there! I think they got the clue that IM NOT SO DUMB after all. Now I'll just wait for someone to post "PEOPLE JUST PAY UR DEBTS!" ;)

Another sleazy debt collection firm called "The Bar Group", collecting for alledged defaulted payday loans. This is all the information I could find on them from Bud Hibbs:

The Bar Group  I was contact by someone named Julie Waters on both my work phone and cell phone stating they have been trying to summons me. I called the number and the first lady told me I was being charged with check fraud I explained to her I was going to have to call her back because I needed to record the phone conversation. She hung up on me. I called again and spoke with a Zachary Hacklett and I asked him for the companies license number in the state of California and that I was not going to settle anything for a payday loan from a company called payday loan yes. He told me I could find the information on-line which was not there. I called again and asked for him and they continued to hang up on me. So I called a final time and they stated that management said that if I called them again they would file harassment charges against me. How ironic are they. It goes to show if you treat them the way they treat you THEY feel threatened.

O yes the good server Richard Minquez who likes to stretch out the words "BLANK YOU HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED". I guess he's finding some type of pleasure from being the server guy. PEOPLE I have dealth w/many collectors in the past...Infact I was a  collector at some point. A credit card collector! Any rightful company would NOT call you and put your business out there especially threat you w/legal matters. I was asked to call a place called the "BARR GROUP". I don't even know how their company name is spelled because they won't even provide me any type of info regarding their company YET they want my bank info. It's funny that there almost non existent via google. THEY SUCK. At this point and time Im thinking that they are out for their XMAS MONEY. How sad...Crunch time!! Gotta look for these people to see who will be dumb enough to pay. PEOPLE if you are people go get a real job!

REC'D CALL ON 11/22, AND AGAIN TODAY.  ANNOYING.  WHAT COMPANY IS THIS, AND WHO IS THEIR "CLIENT" THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO CONTACT?

I got the same message on my cell phone three times now saying each time that I had one time, and one time only, to contact them.  Three times I have gotten the message that I have been "officially notified."  I have no identifying name on my cell phone message either, so they cannot possibly know it is me.  They never leave a company name either.

I rec'd a call from a Michelle Carter stating that i owe money for a bad check i don't write checks so i am not sure what there are talking about.  Also said that i have been officialy notified

rec'd call from a Richard Mingez saying he was calling about an order against me.  Left this as a call back # for a company,(whose name he did not give), for me to call to "resolve this matter".  He ssaid if I don't I will receive a summons at my home or employment. At the end of the msg, he says "you have been officially notified".  How does he know who he left a msg with, since my voicemail does not identify me?!

Received a call from a Thomas Anderson stating that he was calling in regards to a bad check, however it is false, I called my back to see if there are any returned checks, that stated no, it is fraudelent, and to take action.

Received the same call today, from a Thomas Anderson, saying the same thing, I am filing a complaint with the FTC. www.ftc.gov.
