I received a phone call from this guy named David Freeman who claimed he was going to have me served at work for theft for not paying a payday loan back. They kept calling my job harassing my co-workers and threatening them as well. They claimed they were some company called American Investigations.

Someone called from 877-848-1011, he proceeded to state his name was L.T. King and that either I or my attorney would need to call him back. Because my name has come up in a case.

You're right; it's a scam. And all their threats are false and illegal.

States Predisposition Services is one of the many scams run by the Bonnie and Clyde of debt collection scammers, Evelyn and Frank Jackson of Jacksonville, FL.  Apparently in cahoots with fellow Jacksonville debt collection scammer Ted Ellis Crosby (who was just shutdown by the Florida Attorney General), they've run the same scam under many front names, including: Spellman & Roman, Jackson & Phillips, Law Offices of Veronica Masters, Winston Law and Bass Prelitigation. (Late last year, the Florida Attorney General filed a $1.2 million lawsuit against Bass and the Jacksons. See:  http://myfloridalegal.com/__852562220065EE67. ... ighlight=0,bass  )

Though their aliases vary, their method never does. Masquerading as bankers, attorneys, police or other government officials, these crooks call consumers and attempt to extort money with a myriad of illegal and false threats. These threats are always phony and include arresting you, ruining your credit rating, serving you "papers" for a lawsuit and, yes, taking your children away from you.  In one recent phone call to a consumer, these crooks even pretended to be on a walkie talkie coordinating a police raid of the consumer's home.  Granted, this stuff is laughably ridiculous, but, sadly, some people fall for it.

Fortunately, law enforcement authorities and the press have taken notice of these scammers. Check out this excerpt from a recent article in the Florida Times-Union newspaper, and note the last sentence:

"Among the most prominent complaints: Claiming or implying to be attorneys or government agents, threatening arrest or legal action, claiming or collecting exorbitant debt amounts and using harassing or intimidation techniques such as repeated phone calls or calls to a debtor's place of work.  In July, Attorney General Bill McCollum's office filed a $1.3 million lawsuit against the firm - also known as Jackson Phillips & Associates - and earlier this week , state attorneys won the first round of the battle in a Jacksonville courtroom by defeating the agency's motion to dismiss the case. A motion to shut down the firm while the case proceeds will be heard in January. The state is also working with Georgia officials to determine whether Bass is trying to escape Florida prosecution by moving across the state line to Folkston, Ga. Records at Folkston City Hall show that a business license was issued in June to Bass officials Frank and Evelyn Jackson to establish a collection agency called States Predisposition Services Inc."

I don't know if the Florida attorney general knows it yet, but in addition to their Georgia address, States Predisposition has a listing back in Jacksonville which, not surprisingly, is the same address as Bass Enterprises a.k.a. Bass Pre-Litigation:

States Predisposition
6931 Lillian Road
Jacksonville, FL 32211
(904) 446-9236
http://yellowpages.superpages.com/listings.js ... cksonville&S=FL

Bass Enterprises
6931 Lillian Rd
Jacksonville, FL 32211
904-674-2482
http://yellowpages.superpages.com/listings.js ... cksonville&S=FL

And this is the first address they set-up in Georgia last year. It's questionable whether this is a real operations center or just a mail drop or telephone forwarding location:

States Predisposition
1204 South 2nd Street, Suite F
Folkston, GA 31537
(912) 496-7220

The other address that they've used in Georgia is merely a rented private mailbox at The UPS Store that's located in a St. Mary's, GA shopping center:

States Pre-Disposition Services Inc
6586 HWY 40 E
STE B-7 Unit 340
St. Mary's, GA 31558

You may want to report these crooks to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (you can do most of these online):

1) File a complaint with the Florida Attorney General at http://myfloridalegal.com/contact.nsf/contact?Open&Section=Attorney_General  (By the way, Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is very aggressive in pursuing these debt collection scammers.)

2) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.

3) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov  Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone with a myriad of illegal threats. Be sure to give as many details as you can.

4) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.

5) File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org

6) File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en

If these crooks call you again, be sure not to tell them anything other than that you've already reported them to federal and state authorities and not to call again.  After telling them that, I'm sure they'll huff and puff and make more ridiculous threats; if they do, report them to law enforcement again and take consolation in the fact that you rattled their cage. :)

The call was from Charles Montgomery and he said he was with the States Predisposition Service.  He left message saying these things, he needed to talk with me regarding a legal issue and needed my response.  This is a scam.  When my manager asked him to send the information certified registered mail, signature receipt he made up an excuse about needing it faster via email or fax.  Scam Scam, collection agency I think

These scums know people got money from the government and are now trying every avenue they can to get your money!! Don't answer their calls.  They are not polite and deserve to be shut down.  Many of them are operating under illegal terms -- check your state to see if they need to be licensed in your state to conduct business.  Put a stop to them immediately.  They cannot have you arrested -- they would have to take you to court and many of them won't because they are operating under illegal terms.  Just don't answer the calls!

Just received a call at work from Catherine McKenzie who said her number was 877-858-1011 and wanted to confirm my social security number and I would not give it to her.  She said that it was because of allegations about a pay day loan scam and that money went into the bank and was taken out.  I told her that I was not giving her any information and she said that I needed to have her lawyer call her.  Does anyone have any information on what the heck this is?  And why are they calling at work, trying to scare pepole to giving out their information?

Just as I said in my title these people are worthless. No one can arrest for an unpaid payday loan unless you committed fraud on them by not having a job or lying about how much you get paid. No one can communicate to anyone outside your spouse about any debt problems you may or may not have, especially at work. These people are scum and deserve to be treated as such. Find their address and send a cease-desist and demand for proof letter. If they continue find an atty at naca.net who can SUE for you with no or little upfront cost to you. And STOP answering these unknown calls! Screw these bottom feeding scumsucking losers!!!!!!!!!

A Kathryn McKenzie left a message on my cell saying that it was in my best interest for myself or my attorney to call them.  She then called my work, and had the gall to tell my co-worker (as I was not in) that it was very important that I get ahold of her, as Harvey would be going to disposition tomorrow, and that I needed to discuss my case beforehand.  I have no clue who the heck Harvey is, or why Ms. McKenzie would think that this sort of information would be okay to share with my co-worker.
