Lots of confused information here.  I worked in online security for several years and I would not call this number back or provide information to anyone at this number, whether they called me or I called them.  Here is why:

1. That number is not listed anywhere on AFCU's website from what I can tell.  It is certainly not listed in their lengthy list of contact telephone numbers.  Maybe it is an outsourced collections department, but I highly doubt it.  I used Google to search the website as well and had no luck finding that number.

2. I don't think it's a collections number.  I received a call this morning, but I don't have a loan through AFCU (have not for several years) and my credit card and line of credit are paid up.  I just verified this in my online account.

Bottom Line: Don't call this number back.  Just call the regular customer access line.  If there is a problem with your account, they'll know about it or be able to see it on the account and then get you to where you need to go.  This is a much safer option than returning a phone call to a number you've never seen before and providing your information.  

This is a general rule of thumb for everyone, every number.  Just call the main customer service number you know.  That's what AFCU recommends, by the way--they have told me numerous times to just call them directly if I'm ever contacted about my account, so I know I am talking to the right people.  I'd suggest anyone dealing with this number do the same.

This most definitely IS AFCU.  

Use some common sense.

If you answer when they call, they will just have you verify your identity by asking you certain questions.  This protects YOUR privacy in case they are not talking to you.

If you call them back, they cannot help you unless you give them your account number. How else will the phone rep identify you and pull up your account?  

If you recieved a call from this number, it means you are late on a payment to AFCU.

This number called me and left a message to call back. i did and didnt feel right after she asked for my account. Then hung up! then called America first and they said there was nothing on my account showing that collections had called me. This number is a scam.

No, this is NOT a phishing scam, it is a ligit phone call from America First collections department.  If you are getting a call from this number, you are late on a loan payment and really need to call them back and make arrangements so you do not damage your credit.  If you don't trust the phone number call their regular line and they will route you to collections.

This number keeps calling my phone i think it is a phishing scam 877-871-3510

FYI, this is AFCU, I called back with much skepticism also and it is legitimate.  I didn't give out any important information and they were able to answer questions only they could.

I just called AFCU on the number they have listed on their website and they said that they DO NOT have a toll free number that starts with 877 and that it must be a phishing scam.

Just so you know that is the # for AFCU.

Same thing happened to me, they called my phone and left a message for my wife, but when I was the one calling back they asked for my info. I didn't give it to them because banks never ask for that if they are the ones calling you. Lame, stupid people trying anything to steal money.

they also called on a friends phone for me.  I've never used her phone number, if even have her number it's an emergency contact.  I plan to go in to my local branch and ask.  Also, friend said it was on Monday, Presidents Day when they were closed.  I don't trust it.

received a call saying it was from my bank, America First Credit Union in Utah.  missed the call and they left a message simply asking to call them back.  we did, and they asked for the account number.  i provided the number, not thinking anything of it.  they finally just said there is nothing wrong with the account, and are unsure of the reason of the call.  when i called the number with a different phone, they did pick up saying "america first, this is ________."  Seems really, really strange.  we didn't think anything of it until I got off the phone.
