I think this is a scam. I do have a student loan but I set up the automatic transfer long time ago and I'm paying back the loan every month. Besides I'm not even the person that they want to contact.

This is a number from a collection department of Sally Mae.  We received a call from Kyle that was for a person with our same name.  I called back and spoke with Leticia.  I was concerned that they asked for my SS#.  I called them back, reached a different rep, and expressed concern.  He suggested transferring me to Customer Service.  I spoke with Katrina in Customer Service in Indiana and she directed me to the Sally Mae website with the valid contact numbers for Sally Mae.  She gave me her employee ID and said that if I called those numbers and gave them her employee ID that I would be able to reach her directly again.  I called the 1-317-570-7397 number and reached Jasper.  He transferred me to Customer Service in Indiana.  I spoke with Joy who said they don't normally transfer directly to representatives and she had me talk to the manager.  Then Joy said that she wasn't in Customer Service but in Mid-Stage Collections.  She then transferred me to Customer Service in Pennsylvania and I spoke with Katie.  She emailed Katrina and Katrina should be calling me directly.  If not, I will amend this message shortly.

Who the F*** are you? You obviously work for a student loan agency and have no class. Get a better job... don't get upset because no one wants to respond to your efforts. And, never respond to people who have nothing to do with the student loans of others in the manner that you have exhibited in these posts. It is truly futile. GET A LIFE.

If you're wondering whether or not this is a scam, think about how you arrived at this website. You Googled the number that called you, right? If this was a legitimate number from Sallie Mae, wouldn't their website have come up instead of all these "Who Called Me?" websites? Just think that through for a second. If you don't believe me, search the number of a business you're familiar with. It should turn up their website immediately.

The people posting on here saying this number is legit are probably the scammers themselves. Do not call these people back and do not give them any of your personal info.

Sallie Mae can call you all they want.  File a complaint it doesn't matter. Your friends gets calls everyday because she is a worthless c*** that didn't pay her loans.

It is Sallie Mae, and do you want to know why they're calling? Because you're a worthless piece of s*** that doesn't pay your loans. This isn't the normal department calling you, this is the right before you're about to default department calling you. This means they've been calling for almost a year, texting,  e-mailing, calling relatives but since you're such a non contributing spineless sack of waste you go out of your way to avoid the calls. The irony of all this you ask? They can bring your loans current over the phone just by you listening to some message and saying yes. Or even better all you have to do is respond yes to a text and it brings your loan current. So, you retarded, hindrance to society f*** ups...ANSWER THE F****NG PHONE WHEN THEY CALL YOU!!

I had a voice message with pretty much the same thing as you got.  Supposedly they were looking for someone who I've never heard of.  I was suspicious so Googled and found your comment and some others.  I definitely won't return the call.

Such a scam. I filed a complaint with the FTC.  The complaint was accepted on 11-16-13 and the company will be investigated and could lead to law enforcement action...they say. Being on the Do Not Call Registry is a laugh. I've been on since it's inception and recently re-applied. These people keep calling and looking for a specific person who I supposedly signed a promissory note for. NOT!!! And anyone who gives out their Social Security number is just asking for trouble. I will continue to file complaints against every scam number that comes in. My friend gets so many everyday, she has contacted a lawyer.

Sorry, but this must be a scam because I have NEVER had a school loan (I haven't been in school since I left University and enlisted in 1955) but call up to 7 days a week starting before 8 AM with the last call after 6 PM. I have had this phone number since 2004 and I know the name of the person who had the number before me (evidently they owed locals a lot of money) and the name they talk about is unknown to both of us.

They identified themselves as the Sally Mae Department of Education and they continue to call for someone named Christina Young, who had my phone number before me...I've had my phone number for 10 years. I told them I wanted my number removed and they refused to do it unless I gave them an account number or social security number...which I obviously do not have. Then they told me the only way I could get them to stop calling is if I picked up the next time they called. I told them that my cell phone does not work in my place of business (which is doesn't) so I can't pick up. So she said they were going to continue to call me.

I received a call today from this same number.  Saying I was listed as a reference for a person named Jennifer Menzer (sp?).  I know no one by that name.  They said they were Sally Mae also.  After reading these posts I will definitely not be returning the call!

Received a call from these people twice. They identified themselves as calling from Sally Mae Department of Education. The first time they asked for a specific person - stating they had applied for a student loan and had given my number as a reference. I did not look for a CID number the first time. The second time they called they left this number for a call back with an ext. I called them back to let them know they had the wrong number. I later looked at the CID information on my cell phone and it read "No number".  It was odd that every person I spoke to started out by asking for a social security number.
