I just received a call and a text this morning, 22 May. Any way to stop it?

I received a text message from someone claiming to be Transit Employees and the message states my account is closed due to unusual activity and I am to call 888-219-4697.  I am not a transit employee.

How did these demons get my number, and why am I paying for an unsolicited text?

Of course, I didn't call the number.

I received the same text message.  This is a tricky one to ignore for any employee with transit benefits.  One early tip was that the sender was styled "Tranzit Employees" which seemed a little juvenile.  The recording is probably very effective, because they style themselves "Transit Employee Federal Credit Union" which probably overlaps with some aspects of many targets' lives.  For example, I am a government lawyer with transit benefits. The recording is also very commanding -- "YOU WILL enter your cc #" rather than "you will be asked to...."  I can see many senior citizens and other people overly respectful of authority falling for it (that is certainly the scammers' hope).

Of course I didn't fall for it because I follow the golden rule:  Legitimate businesses do not call you asking for your credit card number, social security number or other sensitive information.

I hope the perpetrators of this scam die in a grease fire and their children drown in their own vomit while being raped.

I got the same message at the same time Raven did.  When I called, the number asked me to leave a message.

This is a phishing message sent on my blackberry.  It purports to be from Federal Transit employees credit union and says the account has been closed due to unusual activity.  It provides the phone number of 888-219-4697 to call.  A call to this number results in an automated system asking you for your credit card information.  I'm surprised that there are people that still fall for this, but it must work because i keep getting these messages.
