I've had several calls from these scammers! It's always been a woman who calls and she always asks to speak with the former manager - everytime I tell her that they don't work here anymore she starts saying she just needs to 'confirm' the contact information for our company and starts telling me our company phone number, address and what our company does and I'm just confirming the information she's repeating back to me.  There was no mention of any money owing or anything about us placing an order for advertising - nothing at all!  Then yesterday I received a fax from them and it's an invoice for $669 with a fax cover page that says this:

'As per our conversation, please allow us to explain your account with us.
(Our Company Name) began as a complimentary listing within our online directory.  We subsequently contacted your organization to continue your listing at a cost.  These conversations were held with you, who approved your paid listing December 3, 2013.
You can access your online listing with your Username and Password indicated on your Invoice#.  I have also included the membership description.
If you should have any questions, please contact us @ 888-308-0960'
From: Kaley

I never approved anything other than our company name, address and phone number!
I called the number and a recorded message came on that said 'All our agents are currently busy, please leave your name and number and we will return your call' Now, what company that employs 'agents' would tell you to leave your name and number? They would tell you to stay on the line for the next available agent!  Regardless, I left an extremely nasty message and told them if they called our company again we would be pursuing harrassment charges....and that invoice you sent us - let me tell you where you can stick that!

Looks like they might be going by the name of 411 Media Pages also.  I told them that the last time they billed us we made a note not to pay and they said that they have never billed us before.  I checked and this invoice is from 411 Media Pages but is the exact same scam as Mentor Media.  I spoke to Veronica at 514-430-4099.  Give her a call and see how she's doing.

I received a call from "Robert" insisting I ordered or placed a request for a listing I now owe $649 +tax. I asked him repeatedly when I supposedly did so & them stated all of our calls are recorded - inferring he couldn't prove I did as it was "recorded".
Glad I checked to see online exactly what I apparently requested.
I got a site that needed login credentials.
The invoiced me - but didn't provide said credentials for the site!

SORRY NOT PAYING A SCAMMER.

I have receive a few calls from Mentor Media over the past few days, April 18th 9:21 am and 11:26 am and then again today April 22 at 8:59. I called back to inquire why they were calling me and the receptionist had to get someone to call me back. Robert Miller called right back and said they were looking for the final installment for services we took out April 2010. I don't know may companies that can actually wait 3 years for payment. Anyways, I have dealt with them in past (was scammed) but I did get them to write and fax me a account closure letter. I told Robert about this and he asked which company was listed on the page. I told him Mentor Media, my guess is they ave multiple scams running out of that place. Robert then asked me to read to letter to him, I did so, and his response was he would remove our company and there must have been some mistake. I am so sick of this cr*p already, but I'm sure glad I keep records of all my dealing with these scammers.

Ive received two invoices from mentor media thru the fax. I at first thought what did we sign up for. Then, i got a call telling me that we need to pay the balance due for our listing i told them i have never signed up for anything with them and was unaware of who they were. They sent me a fax to show me what he signed up for... IT DOESNT SHOW ANYTHING! they have called multiple times saying when can we get a payment. I said i am not paying this for a full year because i dont know what it is. It was at 446.00 and they reduced it to 223.00 because i wanted to cancel it. I still get calls asking for when a payment was going to be made and i keep putting them off. Then i looked them up to find out they are a SCAM! the name on the fax says Robert Miller and ive only been talking to girls. I have been hit with 4 SCAMS since the beginning of this year! WATCH OUT FOR THEM! ( Yellow pages online) ( Mentor Media) are two of them! I dont sign up for anything anymore inless i have a sign contract or a face to face meeting! Oh BTW this is the same number they call me from 888-308-0960.

They called from 888-308-0960 "Unknown Name" and wanted to confirm the amount we owe them of $669.00 for some listing we supposedly ordered 2 years ago. Tried to look our name up on their site just out of curiosity, nothing even showed up.  I told them to fax me a copy of a contract I signed and agreed to.  Have not seen anything come through.  We have never even heard of this company before and it is not in any of our records.  Very suspicous!

They have been calling us for almost a year. Magicallly an invoice showed up at my place of work. THey called, called and called, I asked for dates etc, which they gave me dates and the persons name I spoke with... I call BS.. They sent letter that if we did not pay in certain time they will charge interest. This was for a service that we did NOT  authorize! I finally sent a cheque with notice and had cheque note printed on cheque that it was paid under protest.

Recently I have been receiving phone calls again and just today received a package in the mail with 2 discs in package. I will NOT put these discs near my computer! They have got a few phone calls back which go to voicemail and many messages on NOT To call but they still do..  They got my once but they wont this time.

They have been trying to call me for a few months, finally answered a few days ago. Caller id came up as "private". She said she was confirming my cancelation request that I made 6 months ago. I have never advertised with them before or even contacted them in any way. She claimed I had a balance owing for the last 6 months of service. I told her that I never did any business with them before and she claimed I have made payments in the past. Told her she was a scammer and she said "no sir, we are a advertising company, I will get someone to call to confirm details". Told her to not call again but missed a call from them yesterday.

I just started as controller. I got a call from a guy named Robert Miller who stated that this was the last installment and he was just confirming our information. He definitely made it sound like we had been in the directory before. I thought it was odd at the time because we aren't that kind of company and we do not advertise. Today I got the invoice. I took one look at it and thought, "Oh dear." I called and said, "We have no interest in your services." She tried to tell me that we had listed with them and gave me a name of someone who does not work here. I said, "Nope not interested," and threw the invoice away. The interesting part is that Mentor Media does not show up as a scam if you google just the company name. The Better Business Bureau doesn't give them a particularly good score (C+) but they aren't an F either. However I already went through an issue where my assistant got caught in the Yellow-Page-Canada.com scam and I had to file a complaint so anything to do with media sets off little Psycho warning bells in my head...

Also received a call from MMI (or Mentor Media) saying that our listing was coming up for renewal and they will pass me onto their cancellation department but there was an outstanding invoice for $669... I was confused thinking if someone authorized this but I was Googling during the phone call and put two and two together and told them I did not authorize this or anything of the sort and I am the one who deals with these matters. They took my e-mail address and said they will send me some information regarding the bill. LOL they can e-mail me all they want...I will forward this to the BBB or FTC if they call again.

Refusing to identify who they are or where they are located is the hallmark of a scammer:

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

These people are trying to get information out of you in order to scam you. We have unfortunately fallen victim to paying 2 of their invoices prior to realizing the scam, same stories as above, a previous employee authorized the sale. Alex and Robert are the people we have spoke to. They used lines like "this is the last installment" and such to trick people. I have logged onto the members only directory and it's a joke, so unprofessional and useless! Beware these people change their name periodically and re-call their old victims to try again under a new name, they also will ask directly for accounts payable to try and fool some fresh eyes. After telling them 4 times that we are not paying them, they asked me to mail back their cds and gave me their SK address. I asked them if I couriered them, if they had someone there to sign, and of course no. Only by regular mail. Obviously the mail there is forwarded to their Montreal address and if I am unable to get "proof of delivery" I doubt their calls will stop. Also, I believe these people have sold my phone number to other scammers as I now receive several calls a week from unknown/private or 1-800 numbers that call and ask for the manager, not knowing their name, and say they are doing marketing research or have an opportunity they can't pass up and will call back later (they never leave a message).

Thank you to everyone for their postings. I received the same scam phone call today from Mentor Media. It came up as "private" on my call display.

They said they will be sending an invoice for $669 for our Canadian Business listing from 2011 to 2012 (expiring in August 2012). I said I didn't approve of this listing and asked who they spoke to initially about this. They claimed it was me. I asked what their company url was and they gave me: www.mentormediaonline.com. It brings you to a page that you have to log into. They said the public doesn't have access to the 'listing' but that they have over 500 subscribers (yeah right). So we'll see if I receive this fake invoice in the mail.

Received a phone call from Mentor Media, certainly not my first but have passed it on to the
person they had asked for.  Today I took the call,  very professional, soft spoken, direct, no fuss
male proceeded to let me know that our company's listing with them would be cancelled in June
and they would be forwarding the final invoice.  I was blown away by the whole song and dance around this call, they directed my call to "quality control" to ensure all information was correct, stating various times
we will do this quickly as to not disturb your afternoon and work load...."load is right".

Can't really say what was more alarming, the way the whole conversation was presented to me or the fact
they were billing us $669.00..apparently I'll receive said invoice in 5 to 10 days.

Just recieved the same scam call for an invoice for $669. When I questioned who authorized the very sweet voice (don't let that fool ya) on the other end said it wasn't her department and she would investigate and call me back. Recieved a return call in 15 minutes with apoligy saying the invoice was a mistake and they had given me a free listing so everything was fine. She even left her number for me to call back in case I had questions. WHAT A SCAM!!!

After looking at their website, it is a complete scam, so I called back and said I didn't want the service and they claim they will cancel the invoice... do not pay this type of invoice!!1
