I received a call from NYSEG on my work phone. I work/live in Wisconsin. Clearly something is wrong here. Either their automated calling system malfunctioned, or someone in New York falsified their information with the utility company.

I realize this is a year old, but I feel I should respond for the sake of clarity.
What you say is all well & good, except for 1 thing.......I do not now nor have I ever had any dealings, utilities or other connection with NYSEG

It is NYSEG letting you know they are shutting off your gas and electric in 24 hours if you dont pay your bill

The call is from NYSEG's automated collection department. I went on NYSEG's website and confirmed this. They leave no information because they cannot confirm that its really you they are calling.
(Think about how many people change their phone number EVERYDAY just to get away from bill collectors.)
The number is legit. Call them or go to www.nyseg.com to sign up and pay your bill. SOOOO much easier then trying to get through their automated system. It'll show you your account information and how much to pay (min, total to bring current).
