The scam goes on.  I received a call yesterday from someone claiming to be affiliated with Microsoft, to advise me that everytime I opened Windows XP, a virus would infect my computer.  Since I had been having problems, I held on, but asked for someone else, since his Indian accent was so think I couldnt understand what he said.  I was sceptical cuz it sounded like he was reading from a script.  The background noise sounded  like a call center in India, since you could hear many pitches being given with the same accent.  Upon my inquiry, the new person said his name was "Paul", that he was with My Instant Support, in San Jose, California, and the call back no was 424-777-2032.  Like everyone else he took me to an "events" page which had numerous "errors" reported, which he said was proof of a virus.  He said they were calling all area codes of people who used various Windows operating programs.  He said he would connect me with a specialist to fix all my problems, and if I didnt, the computer would crash and burn.  I asked cost, he said $139 to fix everything for a year and I declined.  They called back later and I hung up.  Very relieved, after reading all this, that I gave no computer access or private info.

Hello Jeane, sorry I did not bookmark this page so did not read your reply till now. This might end when you blast their ears out with a whistle, air horn or screaming smoke alarm! Your name and phone has been sold on to other scammers as a gullible target for other scams so beware of weirdo stranger calls. Don't accept offers that want you to send them money up front.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I just received a call from My Instant Support claiming they would eliminate all the infected programs from my computer and then provide security for only $135 per year.  They called me from 206-397-1127.  The person on the phone addmitted he was currently in India and said I could contact him at 415-830-3699 and that his name was Kevin Parker.

WASHINGTON ? Consumer frauds often make claims that are too good to be true. But a recent one, cited by regulators around the world Wednesday, depended on a pitch that many people found completely believable ? that Microsoft or another computer company knows what is on your personal computer.
The Federal Trade Commission announced a multinational crackdown on so-called tech support scams, in which a caller fools a consumer into believing Microsoft or a computer security company has discovered that a PC is infected with harmful software.

I work in IT one of the world?s largest PC companies.  I received two calls from ?My Instant Support?.  It was obvious on the first call that this was a scam, so I hung up.  On the second call, I decided to see exactly what they were doing.  The had me bring up the events log and look for ?Critical? errors.  I gave them a single DNS error (which is common and NOT a virus). They told me to be very careful not to click on this ?highly dangerous? event log entry (it was hard not to bust out laughing) and that this was a virus that had corrupted my hard drive and would need immediate help from them to prevent a total loss of my PC.  They transferred me to a supervisor where he told me the DNS (Domain Name Services) stood for Data Naming Services and from that single event log entry, they could tell my PC was in serious trouble and that they needed to dial into it immediately. I confronted them with the obviously phony information they were giving me and they got quite angry.  This is a TOTAL SCAM.  I am most concerned about senior citizens.  The two people that called be were quite aggressive and persistent, even when confronted with facts about the bogus information and errors.

These people do not give up.  Just got a phone call from them again (4/5 times now), heavy accent and this time it was a different switch..they want to REFUND my money that I paid.  Said ok.  Then he said, "Well, we just need to get on your computer and.."  then I said. NO WAY, not ever will I allow any of you to touch my computer again. If his company wanted to send me a refund they could do it the old fashioned way..thru the U.S. mail.   Told him that I had reported his company info to my bank as fraud and that I had given this same infomation to a family friend whose son is a federal marshall.  He started laughing nervously and then hung up.  When will this end?

just got the same message, immediately recognized it as a scam but strung him along for awhile.  had to really harrass him to get info like company name, phone number etc.
finally told me he was calling from India...his name was George Fredrick (yea sure),  heavy accent..
after insisting over and over finally told me the company name was 'MY INSTANT SUPPORT'. and of course he wanted me to immediately go to my computer and log on so he could check my system.   I told him I wasn't near my computer and would have to call him back and asked for his phone number... he wasn't going to give it to me.. just kept insisting that he would call me and wanted to know when I would be at my computer so he could call back...told him I had no way of knowing...so he finally gave me the same number others here have reported  415-830-3699.    I checked the number.  first of all checked area codes for India... there was no 415.    in the u.s.  415 is california.  googled it and this is what I got:
Phone number: 415-830-3699. is located in San Francisco, California. Its exchange 830 is managed by CELLCO PARTNERSHIP DBA VERIZON.

don't ever fall for these scams!

Thanks for your support.  I followed up on this matter in the following ways.  Called my bank to report the fraud/scam.  They have put a flag on my account for any activity that looks suspicious and a block on anything from these people.  Cancelled the card that I used and are issuing me a new card.  Took all the info that you all have given here about these people:  phone numbers, addresses, etc.

Took my computer in for a clean out.  They installed two programs that were installed that would enable them to view my system. Cleaned out everything.   Was told that once I had let them into my computer it was over.  If you refuse to pay, they just let a virus loose.  They said that they are seeing quite a bit of this kind of activity where they make you feel that they are from Microsoft.

Lesson learned.  Thanks...

Re. "have not used that computer to access my bank account since", good for you, that is indeed the right thing to do. Yes, you should take your PC with all your original CDs to a local PC shop, tell them what happened and have them either clean it out or better still, have them reformat the drive and reload the OS. Read about the scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml

Well, Sophie, you are not alone.  I wish I had hung up also.

Told me the same thing..sounded like they were responding from Microsoft..you know, all those error reports that we keep sending to them.  I, too, was scared and let them access my computer ..they used LogMeIn Rescue.  They were on my computer for hours!!!  It was a gal at first..could not understand her name but she turned me over to "Jason"..India sounds right, btw,...and the phone number I was given was 888-317-3394 for My Instant Support.. I am out 300+ dollars.  This was last June. They installed a program called "Team Viewer"  I asked what that was about and they said that if my computer had issues, that this is the program that they would use to correct my computer at their location.  My bank blocked the payment and I called them that night and said I had okeyed the payment for ONE time. The bank informed me that the reason that they had blocked payment was that this company was not in the US.  Duh..stupid me.   By then, I was having second thoughts...okey 100+ thoughts about how stupid I had been..I have still not told my husband or my kids.  Old grandma that I am.

They gave me this whole report...980 Regular fixes, 444 malewaqre, 600+ privacy sweeps, 49 MB junk

So, last week I get a phone call from "Jason" at 7:00 in the morning telling me that someone was hijacking my IP address...he was very insistant that I get him  on the computer immediately or else my computer was in high danger.  I hung up.

So..help me out here...do I take that computer in and see if it has spy ware in it..or something worse.  I have not used that computer to access my bank account since.  What should I do guys/gals?

i got a call from www.support.me last night, at first i thought the call was from Microsoft. "Ron Wilson" told me about possible errors on my hard drive that could crash my hard drive. I was distracted by trying to understand Him and fearing for the safety of my computer I allowed them to get into my computer. I should have realized it was a scam after my credit card company wouldn't accept the charge, so I called them and told them it was a valid transtions. After hung up I got worried and started asking myselt a lot of questions i should have asked at the time, so i called my bank this morning to see if I could cancel the  transaction. At first i was told I would need to file a dispute claim but after I told them what transpired was told that was fraud. My account was closed and will be getting a new card and account number.
My $135.00 is still in my bank and not in India!

I can't belive I feel for their line and actually gave them control of my computer!

I received a call from them yesterday. It is actually the second one I have got but with a different name. The first one the male caller was very pushy and asked why I didn't trust him and just turn on my computer. He wouldn't give me a phone number or web site name. I finally told him my brother was a FBI  agent and we would be finding out who he was and where he was calling from. There was a long pause and then he hung up. Todays call the female caller did give me a phone number and web site name. But still was pushing me to turn on my computer. And when I said I wasn't going to she hung up
Never give out information to any of these types of calls.

I got a call from them about 15 minutes ago, they said my computer was infected..not with a virus but from something else. When i asked they said that wiping the computer and virus software could not help, so i was skeptical and said i would call Microsoft (i can't get a hold of any operators currently) and ask if this was a company that was associated with them, as the clearly Indian duo had said.  I went to their website but did not do anything yet..my computer is running pretty well as it always had but they said that they were messaged that every time i go on i am getting more and more infections and it may cause my computer to stop working and they could not help me then.  From what i am reading this is a scam and i have never heard of this before, but i decided to google it and here i am..i am still skeptical but should i trust it?

I had this call tonight.  I was having problems with my computer and thought it was legitimate.  BUT, when it came to paying for a years? worth of computer protection they tried to get me to pay form 3-4 years, I was able to buffalo the cc number and codes so it did not work.  The names I got were Mark (the tech guy) and his phone number is 415-830-3699 and the other was Andy Marshall (supervisor) which I thought was odd for an East Indian.  The phone number on the caller ID is 213-333-3206 and the name came up as MGL BPO and the web page they had me go to was MyInstantSupport.com and on their page is:

I got a call from my instant support yesterday.  He also would not give me his name, but I did get a phone number out of him he said he called from 415-830-3699 but there is no answer when I call it. I also got him to confirm he was from India. I could barely understand him as English second language... or may be even third, who knows.  He continued to pressure me into giving him access to my computer saying that it was reported that I was infected by a virus. I told him I was a computer technician and my computer is not infected. He continued to insist I give him access until I told him I was on the national do not call registry and he hung up.  I prompt reported this company on the Do Not Call Registry website, but being a fourgne company, I am sure there is nothing that can be done...

Be aware and mindful of these companies and to not get scammed.

Received a call this morning from a guy saying that my Windows system was running slow, really how would he know that. Even if were true, which it wasn't you couldn't understand a word the guy said. After finally asking him to repeat his name about 6 times, I told him I will not turn my computer on and go to his website!!! I am on the Do Not Call Registry and not sure how I got this call but I'm getting really tired of people trying to scam money out of us!!!!  If you get a call from Myinstanetsupport, just hang up before you are spending money you can't afford!!!!!

I'd say think again, but thinking is obviously not one of your strong points.

I am posting a second message. Although the number I have for this company is not what I am seeing on here...it is the same company.
I finally got through to someone and it took them a couple of hours, but my computer is working very well again.
I got fearful when I wrote my last post after not getting an answer at tech support, then reading all the posts here that say that this is a scam.......I WAS WRONG.
The money I paid was well worth the service I have received.
