Seems as if they are back in business
We got a call today from David Smith (at least, he could have changed his name). Call was referred to me from my AP. He came with the same story. He had proof with a patched phone recording. After asking me how we could run a business as I would not accept his "recorded message" and after asking him how they could run their business with "contracts" like these over the phone he said we would hear from his legal department and hand up. Let's see

Pretty much the same as above, OYP spoke to an employee, then sent an invoice, Bad phone # to contact.  I tossed the works. Next came harassing calls and a patched together a recording to "prove" their valid contract.

I contacted, NY BBB, NY Attorney General, WI Attorney General, IRS, NY
Department of Revenue, NY Bar association, andy several other places already.  I suggest others do the same most of the reports can be filed on line.

I think one way to actually get them by the short hairs is to complain to their credit card companies and inform those providers that a scam is being run.  Might get the providers riled up enough to cause some hurt to the scabby OYP.

Also I wonder if taxes are being paid by the company? Might be able to get the feds very interested.  Each listing on the web site could be construed as another $400.00 sale that some tax agency didn't get claimed in a report.

2 years ago a guy with an Indian accent said he wanted to verify my Yellow Pages account info. A week or 2 later a bill arrived from the OYP Group. On the back of the bill was an address to cancel within 30 days. I did so. A year later a woman called saying this problem of my not paying the bill had to be resolved. I told her, among several other things, that I sent a letter to the address they furnished. She said she never got it. i argued with her about misrepresentation etc then hung up. A year later (last week) some guy called from a collection agency at the 888-401-3777 number and said I'd be served with papers, this week,at my business, re: my up coming case in Westchester County, NY, but that "they" would be willing to settle for only $399 instead of the full $1987.00 amount. I explained all his mistakes to him and hung up.

I have gotten calls from these people.  About a month ago a gal called and said we owned $399.95 plus $40.00 in late fees.  I told the gal to fax me a invoice, which never happened.  So today I get a call from OYP  coming from this number,  I had Googled the business just out of curiosity.  Bingo! I called the number back with the extension they left,  after I had contacted the Attorney General in my state and the FTC.  The gal that answered got an ear full,  she didn't say much and hung up on me.  Heck I love to have them call again,  made the day.

@ Chris, man that's hilarious !!

Okay, just got 15 (that's right people, count 'em)back-to-back calls from "Nicole" in the OYP Groups Legal department (if such a thing actually exists).  It threw me at first because I saw the number on the caller id but I wasn't sure if it was them or not, especially since they'll call one time posing as "OYP" then again as "NCO" then a third time as something else.  You gotta hand it to 'em, they're some persistant frauds if anything. So I did log all of the calls, and they took place within an 11 minute span of time: 11:27-11:38 am.

I'm really considering filing a suit against them, simply because 15 calls is just waaaay over the top. I'm not about to sit on the phone and have nobody threatening or cussing at me, and never even did anything to 'em.  So we'll see what happens next, but I do have a copy of the original cease and desist letter I sent 'em just in case.

Still the best advise for anyone, if you get a phone call from someone that sounds like they're from Abu-Dhabi, just hang up no questions asked.

I received a phone call from 1-888-401-3777 today. A lady from OLY Group asked me to send them an email (RDONALDS@OLYGROUP.COM) stating "I accept OLY Group's settlement to cancel my advertisement on OLY yellew page and internet with $0 charge, and I will retract my complaints filed with BBB and the AG office against the OYP Group."

My church is a victim of the OLY scam. I told the scammers that I would not pay a penny to them and would report them to BBB and the state AG office (and I did file a complaint). Since then, they stopped calling me. Now they wanted to have a settlement with me.

Are there any people who receive similar phone calls from the OLY Group recently? Is this a new trick of the OLY dirt games? Please share your experience.

Most scammers give up scamming when they perceive the target is aware of the scam.  Not these people.  You can tell them "You are a fraud.  I know it and will never, ever, pay."  They just keep plugging away.  Every day all day.

Many of you are asking what kind of loser works at a place like this?  I'll tell you.  Losers who were rejected their whole lives.  When you reject their demands over the phone they are able to voice their frustration by threatening you from a thousand miles away; something they aren't able to do in real life because they are snotty wimps.  They get off on making you angry I realized so now I just make fun of them and laugh..

I've talked to "Andy Wilson", "David Smith", and I recognize all the other names up on this thread.  I think I've talked to all of them over the past 4 months.  I'm guessing there is only about 8 or 9 of them.  I AM LEGEND at their offices.  I cursed out each and every one of them at the beginning.  Then I tried to be as polite as possible.  I then just hung up on them.  I then pleaded with them.  I have tried to cajole them into doing the right thing.  My new kick is to hope every day it is a woman that calls.  If it is I talk dirty to her until she hangs up and we all laugh about it.  These people are complete tools.

Just laugh it off people.  They're a bunch of harmless clowns.  Their threats are idiotic.  Hang up when they call or if you feel like venting just yell at them awhile.  It does not matter what you do, they will call until they feel like they are wasting their time.

They are the telephonic equivalent of spam e-mail.  I'm wondering when they are gonna send me an invoice for some viagra that I never ordered.

Okay,

First, for anyone whose had to deal with these peons, I feel your pain. Here's "a" way to get them to stop calling. But I will recommend doing your due dilligence as well.(to Dan especially, I spoke with Angela Whitte myself, on more than one occassion)

- Send them (the OYP Group/ NCO Financial Services)a nice "cease and desist" letter which you can find a good template just about anywhere on the net. Include the date, the name of the rep who contacted you, their address, the ref.# of the alleged account they're trying to "collect" on, and sign the letter.

What most people don't know is, you ARE NOT required to deal with them (third party) collection agencies, and YES that is your right.

Also, check out info on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  There's a pdf brochure that'll help you understand your rights, vs. what the collection agency is trying to imply. Don't be intimidated by these morons, the majority of them are mindless idiots stuck in a dead end job anyway, they're hoping you'll just cave and send the company a check, BUT what most of us don't know is, they could turn around and "sell" the debt to another collection agency again, and so repeats the vicious cycle.

best of luck to everybody

This is how it happened to me.They kept harrising me one day when I was the  only one in the office.I kept saying no to the renewal of the yellow pages add as soon as they mentioned money. When I did that they would hang up and call back and start it all over again. This went on for 45  min. untill I finally said yes. they explained that we would recieve what would look like a bill but we did not have to pay it.Now they said they have my voice recorded and not only are they going after the co. but also me.

Fell for it!

They called in September every other day for weeks. Finally I was busy with customers and authorized by the owner to renew our existing yellow pages ad. They have me on recording accepting the charges. The price changed, it wasn't to update our ad in the REAL yellow pages to consumers and it keeps getting worse. Now I'm getting collections calls. They say that it seems the sales department intentionally mislead me and that I should file a letter of intent to dispute the billing. The next step is to hand it over to a 3rd party who will come after me personally if the company does not pay. It doesn't matter that the company was sold and no longer exists. She said to get a lawyer to send in a letter if they tried to collect funds from me personally. The previous owner thinks the letter of intent is to get written proof that someone accepted the ad.

Credit Accessment Dept. gave the number as 888-401-3840, but the caller ID shows the 1-888-401-3777 number.

How weird is this going to get? Any thoughts about this new technique?

My legit yellow pages rep had warned us of fake invoices from various groups. Then calls started coming in asking to verify information on our business address, than we began getting invoices and the usual threatening phone calls from a Ms. or Mr. "Smith". I googled them and found the OYP group that contacted us is a scam run out of Canada with a lock-box in NY State to send your "payments" into. I called the number on the fake invoice and and someone actually answered. I asked the gentleman on the phone if he was aware that he was working a scam. He seemed confused so I referred him to the BBB websites from the US and Canada. I have not received any more phone calls.  Hope this helps.

Boy, these guys are busy.  Same here in LA, I am in process of reporting it to BBB and Attorney General.  They are rude and will not let you speak if they sense you are trying to challenge the authenticity of the charge and/or order of the ad.  They've been calling over a month now, when asked to email it, they say they will, but never email.  Today, I told her to email while we were on the phone, amazing, I never received it.  I finally got enough info. from them today to look up and found all the complaints.

AMAZING!!!!

They have been calling and harassing us for months.   They have now turned it onto me.   A David Smith called and stated he was an Agent of New York collecting this bad debt and they are going after me with the bill, fees and a criminal charge if we don't pay.   He called me a liar and then said he listened to the tape and I agreed to the "invoice".   He did give me a return call number so my attorney can call it and settle the debt.  This number was another number to the OYP group.   These people will call 2-8 times a day.  if they talk to us and get us mad etc, they will call more to keep us worked up and give us more threats.  they have been told not to call any more and that just makes them call more often. If we dont' answer they hit redial when they get the machine.    I have contacted the BBB, FTC, Attorney General's office in South Dakota to file complaints and would like these people to stop calling.   they are so rude and full of lies.  They even lied about where their product was supposed to go.    They need to be shut down soon and people need to be warned of them

I have been getting calls also with the same scenerios as others.  The guy I last talked to was David Smith and he stated that he was an agent for the State of New York and that i was a liar and he had me on tape agreeing to this advertising which i was originally told was to go to residences and not businesses.   He told me that they were coming after me personally and I was going to jail for fraud as well as having to pay the bill with all late fees and collection agency fees.  He kept saying he was an agent of New York and insinuated that it was for the Attorney Generals office.   He left a call back number for my attorney to call him.  This number was to the OYP group.    I contacted the BBB, FTC, phonebusters in Canada, and the Attorney General in SD and filed complaints with all of them.   I want to warn others of getting wrapped up in this scam.  They are rude and scary.  They get you so mad that you can't think straight.  Not to mention, they have been calling us anywhere from 2-8 times a day.   We even told them not to call again and they keep calling.   If we don't answer they just keep redialing so the phone keeps ringing here.

They called us this summer. My stupid co-worker passed the call on to me, and I was stupid enough to just not hang up immediately. I said we did not have anything running with them currently, and we were not interested. Well, they called back a few months later from the 'collections department', a Janice Smith, and she said we owed money and had the tape saying I authorized it. It was a pieced together, bogus recording. So, what I did was file a complaint with the BBB and I have not heard from them since! FYI, before I contacted BBB, I wrote to the REAL Online Yellow Pages to complain, by accident. She said THEIR company, the legitimate one, is keeping records of how many people mistake Online Yellow Pages for "OYP Group", as they are hurting their reputation and are considering legal action. Hope this info makes some of you feel better about these scam artists!

I can't wait to try the Better Business Bureau thing when they call back...I hope everyone else thinks to google these thiefs instead of giving them money!!!

Got a call from the "Credit Assessment Division" a person named "Candace O'Neill. Same number, 888 401-3777. She claims they are a "government funded" collections agency. She said our employee authorized an ad, and they have a recording. Same routine as all the others. How can we stop these guys?

Same routine harassed the accounts payable clerk using the same dialog as reported in the internet. They threatened the employee with a civil suit. Our company does not advertise, and never agreed to the ad they are alleging. They even had a fake recording with a bogus voice agreeing to a fake ad. This is such a fraud. This company should be stopped.

Don't fall for it ! 888-401-3777 IS the OYP group trying to pass itself off as a legitimate "third party collections" agency.  Just got a call this morning claiming our company has an outstanding invoice that was submitted to them via "The OYP Group".  The rep said if the invoice is not paid, the company can take the individual responsible for agreeing to the service to court and the company's credit will be damaged as a result.  They try to scare you by running off "exact" dollar amounts that the company can sue for yadda yadda and they HATE when you mention the Better Business Bureau, saying that the BBB can't resolve this issue.  Ask for the their physical address, a call back number and their BBB customer reference or id number, and listen to 'em stutter.
