What you are describing is a fraudulent debt collection "shake down" extortion racket. It has been used by shady debt collectors to defraud people who don't even owe any alleged debt, by using implied threats of arrest, implying that there is some "lawsuit" that doesn't exist, harassment of relatives, and illegal disclosure to employers and coworkers.

Contact FTC.  They recently sued a large group of debt collectors in southern California using similar illegal tactics.

This number keeps calling on my cell phone and my husband's cell phone.  They threaten to send a "uniformed officer" to come to my home if I don't respond in two hours.  It doesn't intimidate me.  I've worked for lawyers for over 20 years and they can threaten me all they want.  I know how the judicial system works.  I have no idea why they are calling but if it's a debt collector for an old debt or something, debtor's prison was abolished years ago!

I didn't pay much atention to it till they mentioned my mother's residence.... so i clled back paid less than i owed and recieved a letter in the mail,as far as i know it's legit just don't call every Sanders in the freakin yellow pages tryin to find me....pay your debt and move on ppl.Thats why credit cards are evil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those that get the same call I would suggest you blow it off and go on about your daily life or if you just gotta have closure simply call your appropriete county office to verify (Clerk of Courts , Marshall or Sherriffs office). Do not call these scammers or give them any additional info about you.

Received a voicemail from this number stating that I wad to be served and that I had a 2 hour window to return the call referencing case # .....if I had any questions.  I return the call to be put through to an "attorney " sayin I was being sued by gap for an unpaid balance. That he could settle it right then for only 500 bit that if I let it go to court it would be over 1000 and would seriously damage my credit, he also warned that ifdid not appear  i would get "a failure to.appear issued with a warrant. Haven't called them back since.

The nice clerk ran my name I am clear, just what I thought.
She said they would never do something like that.

So I argue you to do the same . Call you local clerk, tell them yourr getting threats from someone stating their the county office. They are going to get tired of it.

My daughter received a call from "Mike Anderson" of the "processing division of Santa Clara County" and this call was in reference to a legal matter concerning me (used my name, first and last only) and that she was listed as a possible relative.  He was calling to schedule a uniformed officer who would accompany a process server to my residence or place of employment to serve a legal summons and they would make 3 attempts before turning it back to the courts for "failure to be served". He said there was a 2 hour window to call back and provided this contact phone # and a case #.  He said this would be the first attempt.
It sounds like he's reading a script because he stopped referring to me in the 3rd person ("she" meaning me) and instead said "you". No idea what the scam is. No answer when I called back.

I also received a call from this number asking for certain person. I responded with there is no one here by that name. That I did not know any such person. The man asked for the case number and the number which they called. The man said they would remove my number from their service. I will wait and see what happens

I also recieved a call from a person stating they were from my the process service department in my county and that an officer was going to come to my house to serve me papers.  That the information was sealed in an envelope and if I wanted to know what it pertained, I could call this number.  What the Hell is going on?  The person on the phone said they would make three attempts to serve me then they will report back that I was uncooperative.  Again, What the Hell?

someone in my family got a call from this number looking for me saying I am being sued but never tried calling me on my phone number would like to know who this is.

Received a call today from this number stating that if I did not respond within two hours that they would be sending a uniformed officer to my home to pick me up.  When calling the number back they would not give me any information regarding who they were or what they wanted. When asking to speak to the person named in the voice mail, i was told that there was nobody there by that name.  I told them that they can't just leave messages like that on people's phone and the woman said there was nobody there that would leave such a message.  I advised her that I saved it and it will be forwarded to the proper authorities.

Received calls for 30 day period form multiple people at this #, Jessie Johnson, and John Wise to name a few. Each Time I returned their calls I was unable to speak with anyone- placed on hold for 10 minutes--I waited on hold and no one picked up. Not sure who or what this caller is about-- When I asked the woman who answerd she said the name of the Co. associated with 888-408-9169, name: " Direct Legal Service"  in San Diego, Calif. Can't find a listing for them. If you can't leave a  message pertaining to a specific reason- so I say stop calling too!
